    i don't need more reasons to want the cubs to beat the cardinals in the playoffs this year, but hell why not you don't need to eat the whole thing, but you will definitely need to provide video evidence that you chewed and swallowed a portion of the shoe, as to be determined by the board. i will be the deciding vote in the event of a tie Proposal: everyone here gets to hurl the shoe at him before he has to eat it.

    We've gotta be closing in on an '08 date. ETA: 9 over was our highwater mark in '09. I know we've talked about it before, but it still blows my mind a little how many good stats along those lines come from 2009. In my memory they just fell off of a cliff and were terrible almost all of that season and then it was just years of blech.

    i am enjoying the current run as much as anyone, but we are setting ourselves up for disappointment if we expect anything resembling good play/results against the cardinals. [expletive] that; they're just a bunch of mortals. Drunk, drunk mortals. Punch them in their hearts.

    Even if they win that series you'll still have numbnuts acting like it's a miracle the Cubs beat any team that isn't garbage. The team is just good, period, and [expletive] it...we should expect them to win. Live in fear, the rest of baseball.

    why would this one game do that? Because apparently it's nigh-impossible for a good baseball team to beat two really good starting pitchers back to back.

    i think sean is right, though. from what i understand, not only is st pete awful and their stadium about as [expletive] as there is (at the very least in terms of ambiance) and very hard to get to. i don't know the numbers, but my rays fan friend who always goes on about this says they get good TV ratings (which i realize won't necessarily translate into untapped attendance but seems to indicate a pretty strong level of interest in the team). also, the bucs have been terrible and still been around, from a quick glance, 90% capacity. as far as actual butts in the seats they aren't too far behind the bears (which, yeah, small stadium). I've always heard both the Rays and the Marlins get decent (or better) radio and TV numbers.

    Part of the fun of the US Open is that the course, the course-keepers, and everyone involved are trying to make the course ridiculously tough on the players. Nobody wants them to have an easy courses; this was just garbage basically a few steps from having putt-putt obstacles out there.

    Uh...... Kershaw? Yes? The guy who they have beaten before as a worse team and who is going to have plenty of beatable outings each year? It was just a good win!

    Awesome win, but Jesus, some of are you are talking like they're a terrible team who miraculously beat worldbeaters instead of the 38-30 Cubs beating the 39-32 Dodgers at home.
