I'll see links to the stories on the other Gawker pages, and the headlines are so baffling. The vast majority of them, the one linked to here included, seem to be exactly what got the new owners to try and rein in the old good writers and made them quit. So now they have a nigh-worthless website without comments and written by no-names that are a pale version of what made the site popular in the first place. Good job?

Kris Bryant is sad about baseball because he's on the Cubs and talks about it on a horsefeathering Barstool podcast, and then Jesse Rogers writes about it. That's so many delicious layers of depressing. -
Here's the "best case" scenario for the Cubs: At best, they fostered a FO environment where both the victim of abuse AND someone else working for the Cubs either felt they shouldn't or couldn't report this.

Yeah, shocker it's someone else trying to minimize this sort of thing. Much less a shocker than yet another post from who someone who desperately wants everyone to believe he understands but in actuality proves with each passing post that he is closer to 12th ring of Uranus than he is to anything approximating understanding. Nobody is minimizing the act. ...is minimizing it. Someone within the org besides Porter and his victim knew about this. You acted like there was no information like this out there, as opposed it it being available for anyone to find in the multiple articles about it. Maybe look for those next time instead of worrying about the Cubs org getting an unfair shake for their umpteenth case of having an abuser on the payroll.

And again, trying to minimize what he did like that serves no purpose, especially when these are the types of things typically done by people who feel they can get away with it, which is often due in no small part to the environment it happens in or because of. It's so horsefeathering far from a stretch to cast an eye at his workplace at the time since the reporter and Porter's interactions only happened because they were both working for or with the Cubs. It's a documented pattern of behavior that at least one other person in the Cubs organization knew about besides Porter and his victim. Someone knew, and still this guy only left the org on the path of rising to become a GM himself. The Cubs should be getting nothing but side-eye over this right now.

How do know this wasn't the case. This was a 2 second act that could have been done regardless of the environment and easily done without anyone knowing. This isn't the copy guy walking past the women in the office without any pants on and high fiving the boss for the last 5 years. It shouldn't be tolerated in any way shape or form but taking giant leaps in logic isn't particularly constructive. Certainly if if you have other information you are privy to that speaks definitively to the work environment post away. A 2 second act? It's always, always, a pattern of abuse and harassment. The reporter was assigned to cover the Cubs, someone within the org knew and tried to get Porter to offer some kind of apology, and the reporter was afraid to push it further because of fear of retribution. If that doesn't set off all kinds of screaming alarm bells about the environment of the Cubs' organization, then that's because the person hearing them is deciding to ignore them.

Yeah, for someone to pass this off as little more than, "hey, what dude HASN'T done this" is repulsive. This guy abused his position of power to victimize someone else, and the people he worked for seemingly knew about it at least within short order, and did nothing but nudge him out the door on a path to get an even better job.

I don't care about your well-read copy of Robert's Rules of Order. There's no reason to defend the dude, especially in this area. He repeatedly made choices to bring people on board with known fucked up histories towards women, and the added problem with running things that way is that assholes like this get to skip out of town with a job recommendation at worst.
