  1. And the answer to "why not the Bears?" is always, ALWAYS, "because they're the horsefeathering Bears." Come on, people.
  2. You say this like it's a bad thing.
  3. horsefeathers, that is an amazing avatar pic.
  4. Chafin like a baby bear
  5. I'll see links to the stories on the other Gawker pages, and the headlines are so baffling. The vast majority of them, the one linked to here included, seem to be exactly what got the new owners to try and rein in the old good writers and made them quit. So now they have a nigh-worthless website without comments and written by no-names that are a pale version of what made the site popular in the first place. Good job?
  6. I am determined to win finally win this the same year I don't watch a second of any baseball.
  7. The threat title should be "Cubs have Kohl's Cash" Between this and Joc, this board really dropped the ball with the thread titles. Boooo.
  8. Inaccurate headline: Ricketts is actually try to pay everyone with Kohl's Cash.
  9. They're hamstrung by any deal.
  10. That would have been fun money. Instead we're going to see a fraction of it spent on no-name bums. Never side with management.
  11. Kris Bryant is sad about baseball because he's on the Cubs and talks about it on a horsefeathering Barstool podcast, and then Jesse Rogers writes about it. That's so many delicious layers of depressing.
  12. Here's the "best case" scenario for the Cubs: At best, they fostered a FO environment where both the victim of abuse AND someone else working for the Cubs either felt they shouldn't or couldn't report this.
  13. Yeah, shocker it's someone else trying to minimize this sort of thing. Much less a shocker than yet another post from who someone who desperately wants everyone to believe he understands but in actuality proves with each passing post that he is closer to 12th ring of Uranus than he is to anything approximating understanding. Nobody is minimizing the act. ...is minimizing it. Someone within the org besides Porter and his victim knew about this. You acted like there was no information like this out there, as opposed it it being available for anyone to find in the multiple articles about it. Maybe look for those next time instead of worrying about the Cubs org getting an unfair shake for their umpteenth case of having an abuser on the payroll.
  14. And again, trying to minimize what he did like that serves no purpose, especially when these are the types of things typically done by people who feel they can get away with it, which is often due in no small part to the environment it happens in or because of. It's so horsefeathering far from a stretch to cast an eye at his workplace at the time since the reporter and Porter's interactions only happened because they were both working for or with the Cubs. It's a documented pattern of behavior that at least one other person in the Cubs organization knew about besides Porter and his victim. Someone knew, and still this guy only left the org on the path of rising to become a GM himself. The Cubs should be getting nothing but side-eye over this right now.
  15. How do know this wasn't the case. This was a 2 second act that could have been done regardless of the environment and easily done without anyone knowing. This isn't the copy guy walking past the women in the office without any pants on and high fiving the boss for the last 5 years. It shouldn't be tolerated in any way shape or form but taking giant leaps in logic isn't particularly constructive. Certainly if if you have other information you are privy to that speaks definitively to the work environment post away. A 2 second act? Yeah, shocker it's someone else trying to minimize this sort of thing. https://chicago.suntimes.com/2021/1/19/22238551/jared-porter-mets-gm-fired-explicit-texts-cubs This horsefeathers is never just a one off thing with these types of creeps. It's always, always, a pattern of abuse and harassment. The reporter was assigned to cover the Cubs, someone within the org knew and tried to get Porter to offer some kind of apology, and the reporter was afraid to push it further because of fear of retribution. If that doesn't set off all kinds of screaming alarm bells about the environment of the Cubs' organization, then that's because the person hearing them is deciding to ignore them.
  16. Yeah, for someone to pass this off as little more than, "hey, what dude HASN'T done this" is repulsive. This guy abused his position of power to victimize someone else, and the people he worked for seemingly knew about it at least within short order, and did nothing but nudge him out the door on a path to get an even better job.
  17. I don't care about your well-read copy of Robert's Rules of Order. There's no reason to defend the dude, especially in this area. He repeatedly made choices to bring people on board with known fucked up histories towards women, and the added problem with running things that way is that assholes like this get to skip out of town with a job recommendation at worst.
  18. Stop fostering a work environment with multiple dudes who are shitty and abusive towards women would have been a great place to start. I guess that's night impossible since apparently every dude has sent unwanted pics of their genitals, says the guy who is definitely not driving himself off of a cliff.
  19. I already said yikes, dammit.
  20. Yikes.
  21. Look, if you're going to get hung up on the whole "exec bro" thing, then just picture him looking like this he made all of his repeated terrible personnel decisions:
  22. That's a really roundabout way to shrug off something that happened on his watch. Like, it's always convenient for people to act like when it was working that the Cubs' FO was this amazing machine that basically sprang forth from his brain, but then when horsefeathers goes wrong, no matter on what level or how high up, it's always, "oh, well we can't expect him to be responsible for EVERYTHING." That’s most people though. I’d imagine that you’re saying that because you don’t have a deep reverence or level of respect for Theo. If it were someone you really looked up to, you might find yourself trying to absolve them of responsibility. Hey, "never side with management" pretty much always works.
  23. Yuuuuuuuup. No idea why anyone would bother with trying to defend Theo at this point. His track record of horsefeathers is long and apparent. Yeah, he won them a WS, but he's also a typical dip horsefeathers corporate bro, too. I mean, Theo can clearly form thoughts. I'd describe him as a fairly sharp corporate bro, and typical in so far as he enjoys a frat house atmosphere. Sow frat house games, reap frat house prizes. What's disturbing to me is that these types of boy's club corporate set ups are so common, and not just in sports franchises. I'm not sure if its because these guys are fostering an atmosphere so that women will stay away, or that having set ups like these are required to attract the "talent" they are targetting, or some of both. In any case, men are largely pathetic children and they suck, and if you want to blame Theo for this guy sending his dick to a lady that jilted him, I guess I don't especially care. That's a really roundabout way to shrug off something that happened on his watch. Like, it's always convenient for people to act like when it was working that the Cubs' FO was this amazing machine that basically sprang forth from his brain, but then when horsefeathers goes wrong, no matter on what level or how high up, it's always, "oh, well we can't expect him to be responsible for EVERYTHING."
  24. i'm not going to deny that you make a valid point by bringing up those horsefeathers. i just think those situations are considerably different than theo risking his career and reputation to sweep some dork like jared porter's creepiness under the rug. He was a supposed rising star in the organization that was allowed to leave to be an asst gm shortly after this thing happened, when they could have just elevated him to their own asst GM gig. It looks to me like they knew he was trouble and preferred to let him go. They also put no effort into bringing him back. Yuuuuuuuup. No idea why anyone would bother with trying to defend Theo at this point. His track record of shitiness is long and apparent. Yeah, he won them a WS, but he's also a typical dip horsefeathers corporate bro, too.
