  1. Unless "in lieu of" doesn't mean what I think it does.
  2. Uh, there's lots of candy in there, too.
  3. With Darvish going I am all in on the Dodgers; go screw, Astros.
  4. 2 years in a row now where you could not ask for a better WS, and it seems like such a missed opportunity that they're on so, so [expletive] late.
  5. Plus I still want to know if that's him or not.
  6. Turtlevinceandee?
  7. DAMMIT. Well, no shame in admitting I was beaten to the punch with such sweet Tubastinky wordplay.
  8. ANSWER MY QUESTION. ACKNOWLEDGE MY PUN.
  9. Is Tobleroneski the inexplicable Semi-Pro superfan?
  10. Because Zobrist isn't dead yet and hopefully is healthier next year.
  11. Worrrrrrrrd.
  12. Oh yeah; we have a Simpsons thread.
  13. I mean, this whole tangent started because of the baseball episode, so I both kinda agree and disagree with this. Something like "Krusty Gets Kancelled" lives and dies with celebrity cameos, and it's one of the all-time greats. Plus that Baldwin one was pretty weird in how the celebrity guests were in, like, the entire episode as themselves. I can think of the Mel Gibson one like that, too, but most of the later season episodes I've seen that have celebrity voices still tend to use them for just cameos; there's just no joke beyond, like you said, "it's this famous person!" Later writers just didn't have as good a handle on the whole "celebrities playing themselves" thing. Like, the celebrity shows up, and then a character on the show has to comment on who they are; that's usually a sign it's a bad era.
  14. Guest stars as themselves(Michael Jackson excepted) holy horsefeathers yes They were doing that all along, but something definitely changed once they hit the double digit seasons when it seemed more like they were trying to bend over backwards more and more to awkwardly fit big names on the show instead of either giving them a character to play or doing something weird playing themselves. But a quick scan of this shows it does not work as a flat rule: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Simpsons_guest_stars
  15. And yeah, not liking "Homerpalooza" is flat out insane.
  16. FALSE. And really, seasons 3-8. Season 2 was uneven, but had some amazing episodes. Simpson and Delilah Dancin' Homer Bart the Daredevil One Fish Two Fish Blowfish Bluefish Oh Brother Where Art Thou Lisa's Substitute Three Men and a Comic Book I love season 2, but you don't start people there if you're trying to sell its greatness.
  17. he landed on it awkwardly while making a catch. looked very bad but i didn't think it looked any more gruesome than your standard football knee ligament tear. horsefeathering robots don't care about human bodies doing what they are not meant to do. It was awkward and ugly and gross and had to be reviewed a million times because of the overturned touchdown. I didn't watch a single one of them, but imagine being the replay review guy that had to see it over and over.
  18. That sounds kinda ominous.
  19. There's zero chance I watch a clip of what happen to the Bears guy, but was it a similar freak thing? he landed on it awkwardly while making a catch. looked very bad but i didn't think it looked any more gruesome than your standard football knee ligament tear. Ah, gotcha. So not quite as random as Bo seemingly just being pushed out of bounds, but still, that's messed up.
  20. yup...hip dislocation with vascular damage There's zero chance I watch a clip of what happen to the Bears guy, but was it a similar freak thing?
  21. This is so flippin' confusing.
  22. Wasn't Bo Jackson's big football injury arterial, too? Or am I remembering that completely wrong?
  23. read the article. throwing bombs isn't what makes QB's good. Then read this article: http://uproxx.com/ksk/f-k-it-im-throwing-it-downfield/ Edit: geez it's been awhile since I've read that article and my worldview and tolerance for words in that article has changed. Maybe don't read it Magary just called himself out for that kind of thing this week (and trying hard to be different and better), and mentioned that one specifically. He's a good dude: https://deadspin.com/the-reckoning-always-comes-1819874125
  24. This is all just the FO playing the long game and inserting Martinez into DC so he can spend all season telling Harper about how awesome it is in Chicago and being on the Cubs. Godspeed, good sir.
