  1. "Hold my 18 wine coolers I'm having for second breakfast." http://cdn1.thecomeback.com/theoutsidecorner/wp-content/uploads/sites/19/2013/04/maddonbird.jpg
  2. So basically we want Theo to sexily lie to his face, because in no sane world does anyone want a prized pitcher getting a ton of extra unnecessary AB's, right?
  3. man this guy is always saying some off the wall horsefeathers lmao Im drunk on the love of knowing Garrison Keillor is off the air
  4. I mean, it's not like it's an AAV...just a signing bonus. Yeah, that's true. Dammit, I had already resigned myself to accepting the dumb Yankees getting him. STUPID HOPE.
  5. Where in the horsefeathers have you been? Our president literally insults every person he meets. If youre thinking or expecting anything at all you are doing it wrong Uh....
  6. He probably did drink away the brain cells that remember Edwin Jackson.
  7. I get that he's left a ton on the table by coming over early, but that's still a pretty significant drop to go from what the Yankees can offer vs. the Cubs. I think it's safe to say that if he picks the Cubs then the guy really doesn't care much (relatively) about the money right now. Yeah, it's "only" passing on $3 million+...but it's to settle on $300k. Yowza.
  8. Man, if this kid actually turns out to be some kind of freak who really doesn't care about money at all, I won't know what to believe going forward.
  9. The Yankees absolutely can win this with money. They don't have to do anything remotely shady to do so, so bringing up the Braves is just yet another bizarre tangent.
  10. Puig is more famous than everyone on the Cubs put together. http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/pthththt.gif
  11. The Dodgers’ most popular players all played for the Brooklyn Dodgers outside of Koufax. They’re hacks. Their fans don’t give a horsefeathers, and not in the all in Raiders fans kind of way but a leave because they’re bored and there will be traffic kind of way. Also our Rizzo and Bryant are way better than their Rizzo and Bryant. The most famous athlete on the planet for the past theee decades or so played for a Chicago sports franchise. Yes, Michael Jordan certainly existed.
  12. I don't agree with that at all. Hell, David Ross is arguably the most famous person from the WS team (COME AT ME, BROS). Bottom line, if it's about fame/name recognition, nothing beats if you're perceived as a great player on a good Yankees team. That trounces the Dodgers, too. So you’re measuring based on your perception? Of course. I'm not some kind of David-like fame detecting robot; I'm just some dude with an opinion and a keyboard.
  13. Chicago fans across the sports love to always flog how market doesn't matter, and time after time it clearly does. Doesn't matter how many times they get punched in the dick, that record keeps skipping. If they could spend the money, yeah, it's arguably less of an issue. But with the guy basically having to take peanuts to start out with the Cubs, it ain't crazy to think he'd prefer to look at teams in bigger markets with good teams who can pay him more.
  14. How are you measuring fame or level of celebrity? I would argue Star players from good Cubs teams are every bit as famous as Yankee or Dodger superstars. I don't agree with that at all. Hell, David Ross is arguably the most famous person from the WS team (COME AT ME, BROS). Bottom line, if it's about fame/name recognition, nothing beats if you're perceived as a great player on a good Yankees team. That trounces the Dodgers, too.
  15. God only knows what you think you mean with this meaningless statement. It's not a "new era" in terms of money, or places like LA and NY being bigger markets than Chicago. The Cubs were valued at $2 billion 2-3 years after being bought for less than a billion. This was before winning a WS, leading the league in wins from 2015-2017, before being able to sell off all media rights...Money isn’t going to be the difference maker between these three franchises, and I generally believe it will come down to these three. Great, I guess if let him peak at their bank ledger or something he'll be so impressed he'll take less money to play for them. What in the world.
  16. God only knows what you think you mean with this meaningless statement. It's not a "new era" in terms of money, or places like LA and NY being bigger markets than Chicago.
  17. Yeah, the point you're making, that he wants a sizable native Japanese population around him, isn't something anyone is arguing. It's all about the size of the market and the accessibility of Japanese media and endorsements and the like. Chicago's not the boonies, but NY and LA are much better suited to fit those needs. I’m saying the opposite. They’re coming to him, as they always have, no matter where he goes. That's being willfully naïve or deliberately obtuse if you think it's the same being in Chicago as being in an international medial capital like LA or NY. Yeah, there will be a press pool following him everywhere, but everything is magnified if he's in those cities vs. anywhere else. You're inherently a bigger celebrity if you play for those teams, especially when they're good. If the Cubs could pay the money, fine, but you're asking him to settle for less when it comes to that and the scope of the market could end up in.
  18. Of course location matters. That is not the point I am making. Yeah, the point you're making, that he wants a sizable native Japanese population around him, isn't something anyone is arguing. It's all about the size of the market and the accessibility of Japanese media and endorsements and the like. Chicago's not the boonies, but NY and LA are much better suited to fit those needs.
  19. Yes, if you ignore the questionnaire breakdown it certainly would be very easy to decide that location has little to no bearing on his choice.
  20. There are very good teams in better situations to pay him more and/or are in bigger markets. Bottom line, those are the factors that are mostly likely to sway where he's going to go, as with basically any player in his situation. There's very little reason for him to pick the Cubs over the Dodgers, or especially( IMO) the Yankees unless he's just more of a fan of the Cubs than the other teams. If he's actually looking at it seriously from a market/money/team quality aspect then the Cubs can't help but be behind the curve when you put all of those together. If you break it down to either of the first two criteria, they're still behind the curve. The only place they're up there with the other choices is the team quality. Again, no small thing, but he'd be giving up more to choose the Cubs for that than if he went with the Yankees or the Dodgers. Chicago simply isn't LA or NYC; it has zero to do with how well the team has done or is doing or this "Lovable Losers" nonsense you keep repeating. It's just not as big a market, so if that's something that does matter to him, hey, that's a hill the Cubs are going to have to overcome to land him.
  21. I might just be missing the reports where he’s asking for top dollar ASAP and the most fellow Japanese players and fans. There's a difference between leaving some money on the table and him just not giving a horsefeathers about how much he gets paid and when. The second part is a combination of reading between the lines of things he's said (and apparently is asking about in this questionnaire) and common sense; it's hardly a stretch to assume a big Japanese star is going to prefer the biggest markets, or to prefer playing on the West Coast. Sure, Darvish ended up in Texas, but he was following the money. If that's what we end up with here, then the Cubs are screwed in that regard, too. Basically it's certainly not impossible that he decides to sign with the Cubs, but given the other options out there it's ridiculous to act all bullish like they're not a relative long shot to land him.
  22. Yeah, he's just asking about this stuff as a smokescreen, because THAT makes sense.
  23. If location is as important as that list makes it sound with #4, 6 and 7, Chicago is trailing WAY behind. Eh, i guess i was thinking SF or Seattle over LA Possibly; I think any of those three have a clear advantage over the Cubs when it comes to preferable location. I lean towards the Dodgers ultimately because they're so much better than the other two now and for the foreseeable future, and are in a better position than the other two to pay him more/better in the long run and still also have a good team on the field around him. With the Cubs, the sales pitch will have to be all about the FO and team strengths. No small factors, obviously, but if he is putting a lot of weight into location, then I think it's a big uphill battle for Chicago compared to other markets.
  24. #8 might as well be, "tell me who I should pick between LA or NYC." Why If location is as important as that list makes it sound with #4, 6 and 7, Chicago is trailing WAY behind.
