  1. Jacque needs to hold on or around what he's doing now just until Lee can come back. The biggest thing that killed this team, besides everyone pressing/slumping almost at once, are the complete disasters of Aramis and Pierre the first 2 months of those years. If they had been anywhere even close to their career numbers the Cubs would have lost half of the games they did. They're still both HUGE liabilities that were supposed to be steady players the rest could rely on.
  2. Probably similar to Walker...not flashy enough and is undervalued.
  3. Doesn't he get pretty much nothing but one year deals?
  4. Walker's bread and butter up until now has been one year deals, or similar deals. He seems smart enough to realize what he's gonna get offered by almost anyone at this point. Walker, you know what you're gonna get and he fills a ton of needs almost definitely. Soriano is a HUGE toss up in almost all the offensive areas he might fix. Plus, the defense would be even worse.
  5. ...like the one he's already on!
  6. I'm actually not worried for once about the Cubs having used up their runs for the week in a single game. The offense has exploded in the last 7 games...roll on, boys! Prior and Lee are just around the corner and the NL Central is in shambles!
  7. The age thing is a factor, but he's still getting the job done, and then some. At the most I want to see him for another 2 years, but even that is pushing it. And him hitting #3 is only out of necessity...I don't think it should be done often or for long if needed. Like you said, keep him around for another year cheap to get ready for Patterson. Focus the money on repairing the outfield (with at least 1 more big bat) and getting another starter.
  8. Honestly, what more does this guy have to do to get some love from the damn Cubs? All he's done his whole time here is been rock solid consistent as a good hitter, he's a perfect #2 hitter, he's a fine leadoff hitter, he's patient but he has some pop, he plays 2nd acceptably (he's not costing any games with his game, IMO) and he's stepped in at 1st fantastically for Lee since he went out. There HAVE to be more people than me that want to see him back next year. For the quality ball he plays, his price is almost criminal. Sign him and you have 2nd and the #2 locked up. He can play 1st if needed, he can hit leadoff, he can hit #3, he swings lefty, plus you'll have E-Patt waiting in the wings. Let's show Walk some love! Bring him back!
  9. I love bashing Dusty as much as the next guy, but come on. He would not. If Hendry had a decent amount of good hitters I have no doubt that Baker would put the glovey/contact hitter Perez in the lineup at the 2 spot. I suppose we will have to disagree on this. Baker put Perez in the 2 hole even with Womach hitting 360 or so and on a hot streak. Because Tony Womack is Tony Womack. When you say "good hitters," that typically means about as far away from Tony Womack as possibly. Would you have been as defensive of Neifi last year if he was bumped for a player doing worse at the moment when he had his hot streak last year? Basically, the implication that if Dusty has a team where he has everyday good hitters in all the positions and he's still going to start Neifi on a regular basis is flat out absurd. Of course Neifi's going to get a few starts. All the bench guys are, except if they have cool nicknames like "The Riot." But Dusty would not start him if he had everyday "good players" playing uninjured in those spots.
  10. It drives me insane that 2nd is looked at as a priority slot that needs to be filled. There's no excuse to not pick up Walker again on the cheap. What more does he have to do to prove how valuable a player he is to this team? Soriano can go fudge himself. The guy keeps mouthing off about how he wants back to the AL pretty much no matter what after this year. Hold onto Walker for another year or two with Patterson in the wings. Focus on fixing the friggin' outfield before we start unecessarily dumping players who have been insanely valuable to this club consistently and for next to nothing. I'd try and upgrade at 3rd or SS before even thinking about 2nd. Walker is the man. THE man. All other men are boys in the face of his beardy goodness.
  11. I think you're drastically underestimating how desperately they need help in the starting rotation, the bullpen and the outfield. Fill those needs with a player each (Wood, Aardsma or ahealthy Williamson, Jones) plus Aramis and that's definitely an offer the Yankees would be foolish to not at least think over. They're a competitive team with a real chance to win, as usual. Up until this point, A-Rod has the perception, unfairly, that he's not someone who is going to push them to another WS crown.
  12. Lord Carlos, I heartily apologize for having besmirched thee. I offer the virginities of my as yet unborn daughters as pennance. Please forgive me.
  13. Fixed. You were saying? HOLY CRAP THAT WAS A BOMB! Hot damn, I love being wrong! I'll talk smack every time he comes up to hit if it makes him do THAT!
  14. Who has the more adorable, elf-face Gameday photo, Ronny or Taylor?
  15. I love bashing Dusty as much as the next guy, but come on. He would not.
  16. Who has brought up getting rid of Lee or trading him for A-Rod? Everyone's brought up Aramis in that trade...in my case, packaged with Wood, Jones and a reliever. Aramis benefist NY because he's showing he needs to be behind or surrounded by big hitters to pound the ball. Bam, easily done in NY. He also replaces A-Rod at 3rd. They need a starter, they need the OF help, and they need the bullpen help, badly. I think A-Rod would thrive on a team like the Cubs, where there are very few superstar players compared to the Yankees. He's much more consistent than Aramis, would be able to carry on offensively if Lee gets hurt, and misses little time himself.
  17. Wrong place, my friend. Even when we win, it's usually pretty damn ugly.
  18. Because their way has resulted in the exact opposite of success with the exception of a single season.
  19. I'd have no problem doing that if Guzman could at least put together a decent stint in the minors these days. Is Marmol a possible starter down the line?
  20. That sounded very scary when picturing Lee himself saying it verbatim. "LEE DOESN'T WANT A REHAB STINT IN THE MINORS." "Y-yes, sir."
