  1. Murt don't fit the current mold. He tends to be too patient, and when he does adapt the team's moronic "hack 'n' slash" approach, he doesn't make it work, like Cedeno has been able to do. Nevermind that Cedeno was clearly an aggressive hitter to begin with and this one-note hitting philosophy flys completely in the face of all the positive things we've seen about Murton at the plate up until this point. Poor guy can't win for trying...if he does it Dusty's way, he's gonna go 0 for whatever and look terrible. If he does it the Murtowned way, he's defying Dusty, Clines and Sarge, and they're not gonna take too kindly to the flame-haired rookie not listening to their "brilliant" offensive approach.
  2. The main difference I see is he's not trying to bunt himself on base nearly as much as he has in the past. I don't know if Dusty and co. are telling him not to, or Juan knows something about himself...maybe's he's lost a step or two trying to bolt down to first base and that combined with the Wrigley grass (mowed or not, Dusty) has all but rendered him useless.
  3. In other news, water is wet and we need air to live!
  4. Every time the Cubs lose, they'll cut to a hilarious camera shot of Jazz being hurled out of the front entrance of Wrigley. Works for me!
  5. Stop posting my booze-fueled dreams as if they were news. Thanks.
  6. Cubs lose, 5-0. And nobody really cares.
  7. Cabrera's significantly bigger this year, too. Hmmmmmmmmm...
  8. Yeah, we just haven't given him enough chances!
  9. See all the other guys who had the same or very similar surgery. The numbers are very much not in Wood's favor, even with the advances in medical what not's in recent years.
  10. did hill kill your sister or something? Why the hatred? Why not give him a chance to develop? And I don't have a sister. But now I know why...
  11. did hill kill your sister or something? Why the hatred? Why not give him a chance to develop? Because I highly doubt he'll ever be better than a thinner Glendon Rusch as a starter. I'd happily see him get a shot as a relief thrower...I think he'd find great success there. But as long as he's trotted as a starter...man, it's painful.
  12. At one point can we officially rip on Hill and it's declared "fair?" Because I need to mark my calendar. In blood.
  13. That really is a gorgeous shot. Can you blow it up any larger, JR? I'd make that my desktop in a heartbeat. If I was a bettin' man, I'd say Rocket gave at least one of those Outback kids a little chin music, just for the hell of it.
  14. IF the Reds make the post-season, they're toast. Let 'em go.
  15. They were swinging when 2-0 and 3-1. At bad pitches.
  16. OK, Marshall held the opposing team to a single run for 7 full innings. One. Just the one. What more can you ask of a starting pitcher besides allowing them to score none? Except even that's not enough, since this team can't even manage a run themselves. And this is happening again and again this season. So what if Prior and Wood pitch like Prior and Wood? This cesspool of an offense will implode behind them and they'll probably get 1 win out of every 4 or so they SHOULD get. At best, a healthy Wood and Prior keep this team from losing 100 games. Whoopedee-doo. Unless they also come back clubbing the ball like He-Man, pitchin' don't score runs. And Lee is just one guy. He's not going to do what he did last year. Ideally, he'll hit around .310, if he's healthy. That's helpful, and they'll probably win a few extra games, but nothing significant that's even close to resembling a run. Lee can't put guys on base ahead of him, and the inevitable tandem of Womack and Pierre is gonna suck just as bad with Lee behind them as it does now.
  17. Wilford Brimley is on the horse.
  18. There is no chance Pierre would accept arbitration. There is still a team stupid enough to give him a multiyear deal out there. have you seen his numbers? Hendry is far from being the only stupid GM out there. It's not like Neifi Perez magically didn't exist until the Cubs inexplicably fell in love with him. I swear they just pull up at the bus depot sometimes and sign whoever they lure into the car with a sandwich.
  19. He's the next Babe Ruth.
  20. The estimated price and years are a bit steep, but if he can be had for 4 or less years and under $50 million, rock on. What are his Wrigley numbers? And like it was said, trades within a divison ain't no thang if one of the teams involved has almost zero chance of competing at the time...ie- the Cubs. If the trade benefits the Beer Boys and helps them get out of stalled, they're potentially in a spot to push for the WC. C. Lee to the Cubs this year would be cool, but let's be honest...it ain't nearly enough to push THIS team anywhere near being a threat to anyone except the Pirates.
  21. It's far beyond that now, as today's game very explicitly proves. Who cares if they pitch like their old selves? Look what this team does when the pitching keeps the opponents to one freakin' run! Look how many times they've been shut out!
  22. He does. While sitting in Carlos' lap.
  23. Bo knows that Dusty Baker is an idiot.
  24. I hate not being able to detect sarcasm over the internet.
  25. Eleventy billion. And Rusch eats twice as many fatburgers afterwards as he weeps like a little girl AKA a Chicago Cub.
