The fact that he is leading the league in hits since June 24th means he has made the adjustments that were needed to be made. He is getting on base more, and is making things happen at the top of the order. He still comes up with guys on base and rarely ever drives them home.
His defense is not that bad. Unless, your talking about his arm? Again, 0 errors in CF this year. Of course I'm talking about his arm. People practically run at will against that thing. I'm sick of seeing piano-haulers score because Pierre throws like I did before I realized I was terrible at throwing it in from the outfield. And I was 13 then.
I'll take Walker over Pierre any day of the week and twice on Sunday for his OBP and RBI's alone. Pierre has neither of those things to make up for his anemic defense and OBP.
Agreed. How pathetic is it that I'm 25 years old and highly doubtful I'll see the Cubs win the World Series before I die? I'm 27 and I'm confident I'm never going to see them make it to a WS, period, much less win the damn thing.
Proven himself longterm in a crucial position? Wasn't that the big on Dusty when he was hired? How did that work out. "Proven managers" might be one of the few things more overrated than proven veterans. Joe Torre sure as hell wasn't proven, neither was Terry Francona or Ozzie Guillen, how about Scioscia or Brenly? Jack McKeon was the closest thing to a proven manager among the recent winners, yet he didn't win much of anything prior to the Marlins gig. All this proves is that catchers and weak hitting MIFers make the best skippers. Neifi is going to someday manage a team to 14 straight WS victories.
Actually, he has always been unusually bad against the D-Backs, even with Atlanta. They're just one of those teams that have always inexplicably beaten him up, no matter where they play.
Nope. You want the talent, you either spend years developing it or you go out and buy it. Sure, you can pull off "blockbuster" trades here and there, but the rest, for better or for worse, is the name of the game now.
As many as possible. The writing's on the wall with the money for the parking garage not being there. Don't expect any big signings short of re-upping with in-house studs...the belt's about to be a-tightened!
OK, we've somehow focused only on his defense here...if necessary, you could paint that in a somewhat positive light because he has had made a number of impressive plays. That said, however, I think his offensive problems far outweigh any positives or negatives with his defense.
QFT. I had no desire to see Cedeno fail in any role on this team...I just think we might have to face back that he's not too terribly good. Again, what is the cut off point when a "young player" can be declared somewhat of a bust? I'll happily let him play out the year, but I don't expected to see anything to change my mind.
