  1. ...I was looking at the old game threads (pathetic, I know), and I noticed that some of the pics used for the starting pitchers have updated on their source sites to the teams they now currently play for. Thusly, you end up getting things like the first post here: http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=30908&start=0 Haw-haw. ... Like I said, I'm desperate for baseball to get going.
  2. http://photorerun.ap.org/apdbs/Photo/views/mini/3178/3178135.jpg "Guys, come on! Just one pitcher! Please! I swear I won't swing at the first one! Guys! Guys?" On a different note, I fully endorse Soriano's decision to wear his socks properly. Some of the other Cubs could do well to follow his fine example.
  3. So you're expecting Miller to totally flame out or just not start at all?
  4. Shockingly, he has endorsement deals with both.
  5. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20102231925.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg201.jpg "I WILL LOVE HIM AND HUG HIM AND PET HIM AND CALL HIM 'GEORGE!'"
  6. Murton should be the starting LF'er. End of story. No, it's not.
  7. http://mvn.com/mlb-cubs/2007/02/22/no-this-is-heaven/ That made me downright giddy.
  8. Possibly, but it sounds like Schilling wants to leave-I think Boston would have to knock his socks off with an offer after the season in order to stay: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2007/news/story?id=2774965 I don't see the Cubs being in a position to knock Schilling's socks off. Boston is pretty famous for knocking people's socks off. But what if his socks are stuck to his ankle?
  9. I still heart the Todd. In my heart of hearts, he's still at 2B and a healthy Nomar is at SS. Good for him.
  10. I have nothing to add except... KERRY WOOD: SUPER CLOSER. Thank you.
  11. BRING BACK THE MANE!!! It's the source of his power!
  12. Actually, we probably would be a lot better with Eckstein. only because our current SS options suck Yeah, that was a pretty bad example. I'd take Eckstein over Izturis everyday of the week and twice on double header day. I picked the player synonymous w/hustle, my bad. Go with good ol' Burnitz. I have nothing against the guy, but I remember my dad just gushing all the time about how Burnitz would "hustle it out" every time he grounded out, etc.. It was like the rest of Jeromy's mediocre playing was erased just because he pumped his legs harder when it meant absolutely nothing 99.9% of the time. Baffling.
  13. What drives in more runs, Aramis' hustle or Izturius' glove?
  14. It's still pretty early in Arizona, so no. Here's a former-Cub in Florida: http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070221/capt.flrs10202211812.dodgers__spring_baseball_flrs102.jpg I still miss Nomar. :( Me too.
  15. What exactly is the hold up, then? The same holdup as Lee and Ramirez-negotiations. Hendry is trying to get the best deal he can, and sometimes that involves not locking up the player immediately. Plus, there are always a million details to work out. If Hendry had lowballed them, don't you think Z would have come out with that to get sympathy? They are probably a couple million and a year or two apart right now, and they are playing a little chicken and seeing which side breaks first. A) If thats the case, then how did Sori get done in like 0.2 nanoseconds How is that even comparable? Soriano was a free agent with any number of teams out to get him. Zambrano is locked up by the Cubs right now. They have the time to work with Zambrano because of that.
  16. If I had my way, I'd keep the ads off, but I guess they don't look that bad. I can live with them. I don't like it, but it's not the end of the world. I'll still love going to games and watching them on TV just as much as I did before.
  17. Exactly. I've maybe seem 3 or 4 people in this thread who are "angry" at Z. Most just seem to be discussing the pros and cons of trading him.
  18. What if the "juiciest" return is what experts would consider below value? Then the Cubs are screwed in the long run either way. A long, expensive deal for Z is not gonna be worth what he's expecting.
  19. Cabrera playing the OF with Jones, Soriano and Murton..... allowing a trade with Jones or Murton.....with Pie in the background....What makes AROD better is he is a SS and Cabrera is a bad 3B and good OF and great hitter.... If Miguel can somehow end up on these team, any one of our current OFers not named Soriano is now expendable. I like Murton, but he's nowhere near Cabrera. Jones would be the obvious one to go...so who plays RF? Pie? Soriano? Whatever...if you can get Cabrera, you make room for Cabrera. As much as I love ARod as a player, Cabrera is younger and you'll get more out of him because of it.
  20. Exactly. I don't want Willis for the same reasons I'm apprehensive about giving Z so much money and so many years. Both seem like extended DL stints waiting to happen.
  21. Well: Willis for Clement and 6 fingers. Big winner: Marlins Lee for Choi. Big winner: Cubs Renting Pierre for Nolasco, Mitre, Pinto. Winner: Marlins Time to even up the score? Cubs, NYY and Marlins go into a 3-way deal... Marlins trade Miquel Cabrera & Willis Cubs trade Zambrano, Moore, Pawelik, Wuertz, E Patterson NYY trade ARod, Hughes, Milkey Cabrera, NYY receive Miquel Cabrera, Zambrano, Marlins receive Hughes (best prospect NYY), Pawelik (#1 draft choice #10 Chicago), Moore (3B) prospect, Wuertz, Milkey Cabrera and E Patterson Cubs receive AROD and Willis (Cub essentially trade Zambrano for another year of Willis) Marlins go cheap cheap and get 6 players, 5 who can play now or in a year. I couldn't possibly hate that deal more. Willis? No thanks. NY gets Zambrano AND Miguel? Double no thanks.
  22. Define working out! The extra weight does not help keep the players healthy and we all know the Cubs have had a problem with the DL. I've heard Wood also has shed some pounds. Wasn't there talk during the convention that he had lost some decent poundage? I think so and if he has that is a very good sign and a good start for trying to stay healthy. I'd still trade him ASAP.
  23. Weaver is more than a prospect, though. So is Kendrick. Exactly. People are acting like if Z is moved we won't we any real return in results player-wise for another year or more. Z can get you top tier guys, either young or established, that can play now, solve multiple problems and play (hopefully) every day. True but does Hendry see a different type of talent than we do? He has never traded an impact player in his tenure in Chicago. Large market teams shouldn't. That's a fallacy. Trading an impact player smartly can work for any team, especially the big market ones that ideally have other positions already taken care of and can focus on using that impact player to fix multiple problems.
