  1. I am interested in your theories, sir, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
  2. You think this is bad? Man, check out the Rich Hill thread...this isn't even in the same universe. And as for Hill, I think a lot of the perception about his year being more negative than Lilly's is a lot of us assumed or hoped he would be much better than Lilly. Lilly has also gotten to his numbers by either staying consistent or getting better whereas it can be argued Rich has gotten to where he is by kind of slipping over his last 5-7 starts (I'm not sure how many exactly, though the last one ended very well). And before the Hill devotees gnash at my throat, I'M NOT TRYING TO BASH HILL. "Awesome Hill" is a joy to watch and I'm hoping he can start climbing towards that level again. That said, I'll be perfectly happy with "Good Hill," too. You tottaly and utterly missed the point. How? You said the "gloating" in this thread is ridiculous, and I replied that I think in comparison to a lot of other similar threads, Hill's key among them, this one isn't bad at all. I then replied to how (as I read it) you were pointing out how some people have really gotten on Hill over the last month despite his numbers being almost the same as Lilly's. What did I do or get wrong? Sorry to have wasted your time.
  3. Someone doesn't have to be at 1B just because they suck everywhere else. Some guys are 1st baggers because they're really, really, REALLY good at it, like Lee. Sure, he could be decent in the OF, but I think he's likely much better at 1B due to a lot of the skills you're talking about.

  5. I was pretty neutral on the signing. I figured Lilly would at leats be solid in terms of staying healthy and not totally crapping the bed, plus I assumed there were still bigger pitcher signings to come and I was sadly focused on seeing if Prior or Miller or Guzman could pull off a miracle. In the back of my mind I hoped that getting free of the brutal AL East would help him really sharpen out there, but I really didn't expect this. Very nice surprise.
  6. You honestly think he's not going to bounce back? Someone else broke their wrist and had a poor power year the following year only to return the year after (I can't remember who it was right now). Some guys return to form or near it, but even then if often takes a good amount of time to do so. Honestly, Lee is a perfect #2 hitter right now. I don't see that as a bad thing so long as we find another #3 with a little more punch.
  7. I agree...if by "right" you mean "lucky." JJ hit .176/.250/.275 during June. Pie was sent down (despite having better June #s: .218/.296/.333), so Lou had no other options and played JJ. It's not like JJ hasn't had a hot month or two in the past. If he can have an .800+ OPS as our everyday CF for the next 2 months - that'd be great. Forgive me if I don't hold my breath. Understood. However, Lou was called an idiot on these boards for that move, and there was clearly a chance Jones could at least give us something, which he has. I hope it continues, but you're right, Jones could easily fall back into a mega slump again. He could fall into another slump, but even the most bitter Jacque hater (and I'm usually one of them) has to realize that how bad he was doing in the first half was pretty far under his usual numbers. Granted, he's playing above his head right now, but it's not like we were seeing the "normal" Jacque throughout most of the first half. I really hope that his July makes him look very good to other GMs over the next week.
  8. Main Entry: ap·pre·ci·ate Pronunciation: &-'prE-shE-"At, -'pri- also -'prE-sE- Function: verb Inflected Form(s): -at·ed; -at·ing Etymology: Late Latin appretiatus, past participle of appretiare, from Latin ad- + pretium price -- more at PRICE transitive verb 1 a : to grasp the nature, worth, quality, or significance of b : to value or admire highly c : to judge with heightened perception or understanding : be fully aware of d : to recognize with gratitude So which of those don't apply?
  9. Not trying to pick on you man - really I am not - but I don't understand what you would have against Ted at this point. He's been very good for the most part. I have nothing against him. I love Ted and glad he is a Cub. I just don't appreciate him..thats all. That doesn't make sense. :? he never does Fixed. Seeing Lilly's sad, Droopy Dog-lookin' face always makes me happy.
  10. OK, I think what I like most about Len & Bob is that they actually seem to go out of their way to have at least somewhat interesting Cubs-related stuff to talk about...case in point, Bob just talking about the pre-game process with Aramis' glove. Granted, it's not earth-shattering, but it's something. So many other announcers ramble on about crap that has zero to do with the game or barely talk at all. Of course, Len & Bob have their own non-game asides, but everything just keeps flowing.
  11. 4 game hitting streak Len said. Longest since Z's 5 gamer. Len was saying earlier that he's spent a ton of time practicing his at-bats. Laying down bunts, working some counts, getting a few hits...he's doing what you need a pitcher to do and a little extra.
  12. Wow, beauty of a play by Aramis for the DP! Take THAT, Pujols!
  13. Awesome outing by Lilly. He's no Zambrano, but he looks surprisingly not awful at the plate for an AL pitcher.
  14. Sweet merciful crap! Iowa leads 15-0 after three and a half innings! Pretty much every player is raking. Dear Lord, break out the slaughter rule!
  15. http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6381/murton3ql5.png MurtonFan made a mess.
  16. Nice to Soriano busting out again! Just a HR short of the cycle.
  17. "LILLY!" http://www.conelrad.com/mutatedtelevision/images/herman_leo_1.gif
  18. He did it a few times earlier, too. Nothing unusual.
