  1. lol that's incredible. "WHERE ARE THE BAT BOYS?!?"
  2. We shall now celebrate the start of spring training with the singing of baseball's anthem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW7q0JzWaoY&eurl=http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=highlights10-1/080227
  3. Hopefully this won't be the debut performance of my Cubs' defeat pic: http://www.playwithlinn.com/Images/funny%20pics/oh%20snap.jpg
  4. Except where people have pointed out that the hitters higher up see more AB's, and theoretically you want your better hitters getting more AB's, not potentially your crappiest hitter, like Theriot. I guess you ignored that. Lay off the skyballing.
  5. Don't worry, I can only think of two that would be a bit like that, off towards the north. What Derwood posted would be pretty close to wha you would see.
  6. Just build it there with the bleachers up against the skyline. It would look amazing. Something about Wrigley bleachers and skyscrapers skyline doesn't seem to sit right with me. I'd have to see it to be sure though. If its apartments and condos, depending on the look of them (are they really tall, made of brick/stone or steel) I could totally go for it. quick and dirty (sorry for the black&white, but it's tough to find a skyline photo from the vantage point of that neighborhood) http://www.simleaguebaseball.com/derwood/wrigleycabrini.jpg Yea, tha's pretty much it. So awesome.
  7. Yeah, it's all boho and crap now. Gentrification Love that site. Good to see it here, courtesy of Surly McSulkypants.

If they built it on the Cabrini location with the bleachers backed up against the skyline, there wouldn't really be anything visible or in the way.

  10. no, but you can swear! !!!!!!!!! I freely admit that this gives me a juvenile thrill.

  12. Why, do emotion-free robots post there?
  13. I'm with you. I wish they could just build a new stadium on the land where Cabrini is in the process of being torn down. Bring the beachers, bricks, scoreboard and the red sign, plant some ivy and build a stadium that can seat at least 50,000 and has parking around it. To hell with Wrigleyville. It's a bunch of obnoxious frat bars and arrogant, jerkfaced residents who act like living near the Cubs is a burden. And you think the way to solve that is to move to Cabrini? Forget for a moment that what you propose is impossible, but if you move the Cubs to another neighborhood in Chicago, those same bars are going to follow, and the neighbors are going to have the same complaints. Seeing as the entire Cabrini area is in the middle of the successful process of generally trying to recover the neighborhood, you're not going to have the scores of "legacy" property and homeowners that are such a pain for the Cubs to deal with. I know bars and such would follow the stadium, which is why I said "to hell with Wrigleyville." It's nothing special in that regard. I'm also biased since I live like a mile away and my property value would go through the roof...though it is a prime spot tha would keep them in the city and finally give them the bigger and better stadium they deserve. More seats, more tickets, more money...ideally, even more money for the team.
  14. The only way this is true is if there really is no advertising value in having your name on a ballpark. it is true. NOBODY associates Wrigley Field with Wrigley Gum. I don't even associate the Wrigley Building with Wrigley Gum It doesn't have anything to do with associating the name. People don't think United Airlines everytime they think United Center. Certainly it's not the same as a company that explicitly advertises it's name on the building, physically and on paper. I'm not arguing that the benefit to Wrigley is the same as the benefit US Cellular gets from having its name on US Cellular Field (if there is a benefit to that). But there is a benefit. WM. Wrigley Jr. Co. clearly gets some benefit from having its name attached, however loosely, to Wrigley Field. There is no doubt about that. Agreed. It might not be slamdunk obvious, but it's there, especialy with people who know the connection between the gums and the field. Hell, the only reason I've ever bought Wrigley is because of that. I grew up knowing that it was "the Cubs' gum."

  16. GOBO.
  17. e2s was nicer when he was smoking the tweed.
  18. GODO.
  19. Why not leadoff? Don't you want a leadoff hitter scoring? Well, Soriano's OPS is fueld by the big hits he gets, especially his HR's. What happens when he hits a HR? He scores. That's what we want.
  20. Sadly, yes. It's the Bears. The can screw up even a lock draft pick.
  21. pvc. premature ventricular complex, i get them sometimes. OK, that's what they're called. I remember my doctor saying "PVC," but was not remembering what the hell it stood for.
  22. QFT. Gracey wins it now, but I'm pretty confident Lee will own it after the next few seasons.
