Make them throw in a prospect say...a Scott Sizemore, or a Matt Joyce, then I would. But trading a young, cheap valueable arm for a free agent to be EXPENSIVE SS is NOT an ideal trade, IMO. So again, if Detroit is willing to throw in a solid prospect with Renteria, then yeah I would Marmol for Renteria/prospect. But the first goal, should be to trade Dempster before considering moving Marmol. Marmol is a reliever. Renteria fills a massive gaping hole. It's a no-brainer. Renteria making $9 mill in 2008, with a $11 mill club option for 2009 Marmol making well prolly less then $400k. You're right, it's a no brainer. No deal. I much rather rather wait for a player like Khalil Greene, or even move Marmol for Greene, then Marmol for Renteria. Look, neither trade is going to happen. Hypothetically, though, the cost between the two is moot. A guy like Renteria is infinitely more valuable than a relief pitcher, even one as good as Marmol. A team like the Cubs can pay. Pay for what you need.
