  1. Way to kill any momentum. Kawakami threw, what, 4 pitches after the HR? Well done.
  2. First of all...Potato-head? But secondly, I realize that because something happened to jeter it's not going to change the game forever - or how the umpires call it. It really should, however, at least cause someone (selig?) to say "Hey, the rule is that you have to tag them. So, uh, keep that in mind." Anything that implies that an umpire should, you know, follow the rules as they're written would be a good thing. That's all well and good, but the "if the ball beats you you're out" idea hinges on it being a close play and the umpire only able to see so much. The only reason anyone knows Jeter was safe was due to the hindsight of numerous replays from different angles and slow-motion. As it happened, it was a bang-bang play that was VERY close. The human eye can only follow so much with that kind of flurry of action. Nothing unusual happened on that play: the ump just verbalized it poorly.
  3. Yeah, I mean it's not like they faced two of the best pitchers in the NL this year or anything. Oh wait... I guess the Cubs aren't allowed to have low scoring games ever again.
  4. Meh, it happens. Just get that series win.
  5. That's why I think he actually needs to be more aggressive despite his slump. Seems like more often than not he's getting the best pitch thrown first, like pitchers know he's not going to swing and they want the gimme strike.
  6. What do you mean that was a hit. Theriot is having a good defensive series. No errors. Are you being sarcastic? Just because an error isn't called doesn't mean that Theriot doesn't have the arm and the range of a 14-year-old girl.
  7. Theriot has been on a tear lately emphasizing how bad he is defensively as a SS.
  8. As bad as Soriano has been, I'd actually like to see him get MORE aggressive. It seems like he's getting the most hittable pitch for him as the first pitch and he's destermined just to not swing at the first pitch no matter what. I wonder if pitchers are gambling with that: pitch him a sure strike for strike 1, then he'll swing for strike 2 after seeing one go right by and then he's doomed.
  9. As well thought out as a Dusty Baker lineup. There's really little point in explaining yet again why it's piss-poor to construct a team and/or a lineup for the regular season around the tiny sample size of 6 playoff games since you show zero sign of realizing how ridiculous an idea that is. If you're looking at those games as the definitive "proof" as to how a player should be handled in the regular season then Aramis needs to be benched or traded or released ASAP. Those Soriano numbers were his enitre post season career. He's awful. Which is a whole 172 ABs. And those ABs are split into 18-30 AB segments. There's too much volatility in small numbers like that to really make a good evaluation. 15 good at bats could increase just his average by 20-30 points. Small sample sizes aren't reliable indicators on what a player can do. Exactly. In no way should a player's playoff numbers EVER trump their regular season numbers when it comes to how they're played in the regular season. The number of playoff games being used to evalutae the player is moot since they'll never be more than a fraction of that player's career as a whole.

  11. You're adorable.
  12. Yeah, sit on him judge! Keep that sub .300 OBP at the leadoff spot where it belongs! Because that's clearly what everyone is saying here, wrigley24.
  13. That "flawed logic" has been the way it's been for a long ass time. It's not going to shake up because potato-head gets all pissy about it.
  14. DAMN. That's selfish to the max.
  15. So a leadoff hitter knocking themselves in (not that Soriano has been doing that for almost 2 months) is unacceptable? Id rather have a leadoff guy that will consistantly get on base than 1 who will hit the occasional home run but more often than not K on 3 pitches or ground weakly to SS on the 1st or 2nd pitch. Will Kosuke consistantly get on base? Time will tell. Thing about Soriano is, when hes hot, Ill take him anywhere in the first 5 lineup spots, but when hes cold, I want him nowhere near the lineup. Soriano is 7th in the MLB in run scored from the leadoff spot. Isn't it kind of silly to complain about HOW he's scoring the runs? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting?split=109&league=mlb&season=2009&seasonType=2&sort=runs&type=reg&ageMin=17&ageMax=51&state=0&college=0&country=0&hand=a&pos=all&startDate=null&endDate=null&minpa=0 But how many of those runs are from the 1st month or so when he was red hot compared to the past few when hes been, well, not. So we're only supposed to evaluate his performance as a leadoff hitter from the last two months? You're not finding anyone here who wants him up there during this prolonged slump. This current conversation stems from wrigley23's rants about how Soriano should NEVER be a leadoff hitter and how he's ALWAYS a detriment when he's hitting up there. As a whole, Soriano has been one of the most productive leadoff hitters in baseball in terms of scoring runs. That's ultimately the bottom line of what you want a leadoff hitter to do. How they do it is essentially incidental so long as it gets done.
  16. HOMES RUNS ARE SELFISH, SON.
  17. If the Brewers somehow managed to snag him... I would be sad.
  18. I'm sorry for your impending losses. Thoughts and prayers.
  19. I'll bet this guy actually likes Soriano being this bad.
