  1. Sounds like you're making excuses.
  2. Challenge him to a duel.
  3. You're remarkably stupid.
  4. Aim low, sweet chariot, and gimme that split.
  5. So the only options are to love or hate him? That's ridiculous.
  6. According to Lou they gave Lee muscle relaxants so he's feeling great.
  7. Why would you have "always" hated Soriano?
  8. This seems like a very dumb move for the Mets.
  9. Then remember when he did?
  10. I feel bad for Arnold about how his heart will break when the next GM after Hendry is worse. What is your evidence that the next GM will be a lock in terms of being inferior to Hendry? That medicore to bad GM's are employed, in my opinion, by most of the teams in MLB in pretty much any given season. Do I think Hendry is a good or great GM? Of course not. If I had my way I'd love if the Cubs could end up with someone better. Once the ownership situation is ironed out I will have no qualms if he is fired. That said, I don't have much confidence that someone better will be hired. I think it's far more likely that someone as bad or worse ends up in the GM spot. I hope I'm wrong and the Ricketts buck the trend and are actually baseball savvy or, God willing, listen to people who are and hire someone who is the great GM the Cubs should have...but I'm not holding my breath. I'm basically just hoping for someone who doesn't suck too much.

  12. Definitely. I just think the idea that this team is playing as everyone should have expected going into the year is funny as hell. It's only funny to you because you see the outlier 2008 season as the standard, which is a very warped perception of the baseball teams Jim Hendry builds. You're so goofy. I love your schtick. Never change, homeslice. You always do this when you lose the argument. Guess so. Keep at it, big guy!
  13. Definitely. I just think the idea that this team is playing as everyone should have expected going into the year is funny as hell. But there was a lot of concern that this team had some serious downside on offense, with all of our best hitters except for Soto being past their primes, and Soto being a catcher, which is always unpredictable. Agreed, but again, anyone who claims they were predicting THIS is a liar. Baseball is baseball: there are no guarentees that players and teams are just going to walk over the season and you saw plenty of people here saying that 2009 was not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination, but there's a huge gulf between that and how flat-out bad this team is playing. That you have this many players not playing anywhere near career or projected levels plus the injuries is basically a perfect storm of suck.

  16. BWAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!
  17. Absolutely astounding. Is it really? Take a look at the offensive stats since 2003 despite having a top MLB payroll. 2008 was a complete fluke. Accept that reality. I do have to say, I like your habit of only showing up when the Cubs are losing or have lost because you never fail to lighten the mood with this ridiculous gimmick that you're clinging to.
  18. It really wouldn't, that's what I'm trying to say. Guys fall off the cliff all the time in baseball. We understand now that the most likely result is a guy staying about the same each year (plexiglass principle and all), but we seem to be underestimating the spread of possibilities. The bell curve is much wider than common expectations around here seem to think. Baseball players rarely follow a simple curve over their career. They break out big and they bust out big quite frequently. Like what we've seen this year? That just doesn't seem like something that occurs too commonly. Based on the first several weeks Soriano seemed primed for one of the better offensive seasons of his career (personally, I don't give a damn about stolen bases). Given the x-factor of the knee issues showing up and the relative timing to when he fell off, wouldn't it be far more likely that it's due to that particular injury issue as opposed to a sudden dropoff the equivalent of the floor just dropping out from under him?
  19. Not so much directed at you specifically, but this is just touching on a pet peeve of mine. The pendulum has swung way too far to the other end, and rather than overreact to small samples, we statheads refuse to accept that it's normal for players to have sudden changes in ability. We've got 250-350+ PAs of fresh data on these guys, and that means something. There was always a non-zero collapse rate on guys like Soriano, and now that we've seen him collapse for 356 PAs going into today, we should be upping that rate pretty substantially. I'm not saying that it's impossible for him to have dropped off for good...but it would be a pretty remarkable thing if he did that (relatively) suddenly and that dramatically, especially after the start he got off to.
  20. Expected levels at the beginning of the season? Yes. But with what we know now (Harden is probably completely and possibly permanently broken, Soriano may be aging faster than we hoped), I'd say it's close. Of course it's based on the expected levels going into the season.
