  1. What the [expletive] was that "we've got the Funk" commercial?!?!?
  2. Yeah at one point I thought he was. After the concussion and during the Seattle and Washington games his rating was like 62 and he had 4 picks and 1 TD. He still wasn't the weak link. The weak link implies they'd have been better off without him playing.
  3. Something tells me that if the Red Sox or Yankees have a shot at landing Pujols they're really not going to lose sleep over the debate as to who ultimately has to DH.
  4. Not signing Lance Berkman is a PR blunder? What kind of [expletive] nonsense is that?
  5. Any money spent on relief pitching right now is waste.
  6. Yes, but you still insist he was the weak link at some point, as in the reason the team is losing and they'd likely be winning if he wasn't in there.
  7. You also said he was the weak link and still stubbornly stick by that. That's why everyone likes poking you with sticks.
  8. Sure, they WANT to "go for it"...but I'm thinking it's pretty likely they'll be out of it by the time the deadline will be rolling around, even with how bad this division is.
  9. I am convinced that Fielder will be DHing for the Yankees before the deadline.
  10. Does anyone really think the Cubs had any kind of shot of landing Fielder? The Gonzalez move pretty much sealed it for me that Prince was going to be traded and signed to an extension by whoever he was traded to, and there was almost no chance that the Brewers would have traded him to the Cubs unless the Cubs did something monumentally stupid and vastly overpaid for him to the point the Brewers couldn't say no.
  11. I have a major issue with that. First, there's no reason why it should drop that far. Second, that will result in a very painful couple of seasons and no ability to go out of the system to get impact players for at least a few years. Could not agree more. If the Cubs HAD to keep their budget at that range, OK, fine, it's more than workable, but ultimately they don't. In the end this is a team that makes ungodly amounts of money, especially when they have even the slightest bit of sustained success.
  12. Eh, really, how many more tickets would they sell because of that than if they went with a full rebuild ASAP? The general perception already is that the team is crappy.
  13. The really annoying thing is it did not have to get to this point.
  14. I'm not expecting them to move those players now; I want them to look to do so before the deadline.
  15. Damn. Well said, Lupica.
  16. Yeah, that's my thinking towards him. His career window is likely relatively short enough as it is, and with the Cubs seemingly going with the rebuilding route for the foreseeable future, it really seems like Soto's value to the team would come more from the nice prospects package he could net them in a trade sooner rather than later. That's the problem with this half assed approach they appear to be using. If they are going to tank 2011, at least do it in a way to significantly improve your chances for 2012-2013. There's no point in wasting things like Marmol/Soto/Casto's still affordable seasons while waiting for other contracts to leave. By the time they can afford others they will be offering big raises to new guys and still won't be able to go after the big time free agents. Don't pay somebody to take Fukudome. Deal Wells, Marmol, Byrd, Colvin and maybe even Soto. Take your lumps now instead of prolonging them for the next 3 years. Totally agree. I'd add Gorzelanny to that list, too.
  17. Because if I wanted Lyle Overbay or Adam LaRoche, I'd just sign them. My way is cheaper. You think so? He's in the middle of arbitration years and has racked up some relatively larger RBI totals despite his generally poor hitting. I'd guess he's a lock to get a fairly large raise this season and then without any realistic 1B in the pipeline he will play a lot and be a near lock for another raise next season even without being good. Beats the [expletive] out of me; I was completely guessing.
  18. Except for that return where he was one kicker away from breaking an NFL record, Hester was invisible, guys.
  19. I'd guess the Cubs didn't want to trade for and then sign the guy, and only got involved late when they realized a deal was going to happen with somebody. They also might just want their name out there on big guys while settling for the mediocre 3rd tier guys they were after from the start. I agree on both of those points. Which is really disheartening considering all the money coming off the books next year. I'm really starting to think we're going to settle into a payroll around 100-110 mill longterm. Which would make AZPhil's comment about Ricketts wanting to run us like the Twins is much more accurate than being ran like the Red Sox. Hey, I'd happily take being the Twins over the last decade.
  20. Yeah, that's my thinking towards him. 22. Gotta stay away from those insane and deviant Cubs prospects.
  23. Yeah, I got that part, but not the "makeup" part. I guess the "makeup" of the prospects, but that sounds odd.
  24. Definitely. I actually wouldn't mind them shopping Soto, too. He's cheap now, but he's about to turn 28 and catchers tend to not last that long to begin with, nevermind ones who have had weight issues.
  25. If you can have him for someone like Colvin, sure, why not?
