  1. Dusty is Michael Scott.
  2. You two are adorable.
  3. because he got drilled by the [expletive] pirates, not because dusty was being responsible. Yeah, you really think Dusty would have taken Harang out after 73 pitches if he had only allowed a run on four hits through six innings? [expletive] no. What kind of message would that send?
  4. That doesn't make it correct.
  5. Are you saying that you would actually prefer Zambrano or Garza? No it doesn't matter to me. WHOA, NOW YOU'RE TALKING CRAZY. Messages must be sent.
  6. Man, you are all about messages.
  7. What the [expletive] is wrong with you? seeing a second basemen pitch in a game we're willing to effectively forfeit is sufficiently fun to risk having a moron like Baker use a SP in the 15th inning after almost every fan has gone to sleep? i'm trying to reconcile all of this. What is there to reconcile? Who here is talking about just giving up on a game once it hits a certain number of innings besides you? Those of us talking about effectively forfeiting game are talking about preferring the Cubs to do that if it's essentially a meaningless game and the bullpen has been used up, not just "oh, it's the 14th inning and we still have a couple of relievers left...let's pack it in!!!"
  8. Oh, right, because it'll just be a typical "extra inning game" and not an 18 inning monstrosity where Quade has depleted the bullpen when people are "screaming for the Cubs to give up;" what a silly, stupid thing to say. Yes, unless it's a critical game I'll almost always prefer that the Cubs effectively pack it in if it's tied and there's nobody left in the bullpen. That's almost always a much better option than trying to squeeze relief work out of a starter.
  9. Sure it is. Why are you going to risk so much more over a single game that has virtually no meaning in the big picture? If you're such a shitty manager that you've used up your bullpen options, well, sometimes you just have to effectively toss it in when the game is going twice as long as usual. That's as no-brainer as it gets. Though you probably think Votto should have dropped a sick bunt bro at some point, so what the [expletive] do you know?
  10. I did. UPDATE: he was not receptive http://www.csnchicago.com/sportsnetChicago/thumbnails/Sportsnet_-_Chicago/14/577/CTL_promo_2-15.jpg http://www.csnchicago.com/sportsnetChicago/thumbnails/Sportsnet_-_Chicago/14/577/CTL_promo_2-15.jpghttp://www.csnchicago.com/sportsnetChicago/thumbnails/Sportsnet_-_Chicago/14/577/CTL_promo_2-15.jpg http://www.csnchicago.com/sportsnetChicago/thumbnails/Sportsnet_-_Chicago/14/577/CTL_promo_2-15.jpg
  11. Yeah, bust your brains on that one, "Dusty bashers."
  12. Definitely not. They should obviously be listening to deals for Byrd, but it might be in there best interests to keep him through his final year. I really don't think Colvin is going to be good enough to justify him being the regular RF, especially with Soriano's declining production over in LF. Who are going to be FA outfielders after 2011?
  13. Why the ? at 2B? Unless he tanks isn't it pretty much a given that it would be DeWitt there in 2012 in that scenario?
  14. There is absolutely no way Pujols takes anything less than a 6-year deal, and even that is pretty unlikely.
  15. That's actually not accurate. They were a pretty good team (probably 90-92 wins good) who was really injured most of the year and got healthy the last 2-3 weeks of the season. They did get inexplicably hot, but the biggest factor by far was the fact that they had all their "horses" for pretty much the first time all year. I don't think that's accurate at all. Edmonds was the only one to miss significant time. They were just a mediocre team that got lucky. Yup. That was nowhere near being a good team that year. They weren't really hampered by any major injuries outside of Edmonds. Call it underperforming during the regular season or whatever; in 2006 the Cardinals were indeed barely above average and somehow managed to fart out a World Series win.
  16. HERP-DERP-DERP. *FARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT*
  17. The '06 Cardinals were a barely above average team that won a horrendous division and got hot at the right time in the postseason. It's not like we're peering through the mists of time here to remember this. Plus, like C.C. said, why would you possibly think they would have no plans to build a team around Pujols?
  18. Lord only knows what goes through WSR's mind. This is the guy who just said the '06 Cardinals seemed "unstoppable."
  19. Yeah, if they can have him back cheap like that and he gets that it's largely a platoon/bench role I'd be all for it.
  20. The Cubs, obviously. They clearly don't have the same financial constraints as the Cardinals, which would preclude form your scenario in the first place.
  21. Undoubtedly, and if that's what he wants to go after, he'll get his money. I still say when it's all said and done, he'll take a little less (but still get a ton of freaking money) to stay in STL. Yeah, but a little less from what he's asking still seems to be way out of their price range. Albert seems to indicate in his most recent quotes that what the media is reporting as his "asking price" isn't accurate. Could well just be him trying to throw the media off...but I guess we'll see. Well, again, I think LaRussa is somewhat right because I think the union is definitely pushing him to get an unprecedented contract. That doesn't he necessarily will go that route, but I think there will be more weighing on him when it comes to doing what's "right" besides just re-upping with St. Louis for a discount.

  23. He's made some nice cash, but technically has been severely underpaid. He's due.
