  1. Who would you rather have pitching in this situation? I realize he's just eating an inning in a game we're not going to win. Why not bring up someone else and give them a chance? His career statistics are terrible. He looks terrible now. He's always looked terrible. He shouldn't be on the roster. I wouldn't mind seeing him gone, but in a game like this, eh, [expletive] it; let him go out and suck.
  2. Yeah but still the Cubs were 4-3 before this game. I think that is too early for apathy to set in for the season but maybe I'm wrong. Personally I have been thinking the Bulls & Blackhawks respective drives towards the playoffs have had something to do with it too. I've been pretty apathetic since about April 2010. There is just a general sense of apathy from Cubs fans right now. Not all but many. Its why the crowds are dwindling, its why the game threads and Cubs posts in general have dropped significantly from 2 years ago. Well, I'm assuming you'll be seeing more once it gets nicer out since they've already sold over 2.6 million tickets. To idiots, I guess.

  4. Stealing 2 bases up 5 with just the top of the 9th to go? Some motherhumper better get plunked.
  5. So does that mean we can stop automatically assuming Aaron was "all natural?" Because that would be awesome. Oddly enough, Aaron's career arc matches up surprisingly well with other known PED users. Steroids and other PEDs were available when he was playing, so it wouldn't be particularly surprising if it turned out he used. On his own team at the time, no less.
  6. Didn't do my homework and for some reason thought Scott was a good 3 years younger than he actually is.
  7. It won't be because of cheating; it'll be because the evolution of PED's will make our currently moronic histrionics seem completely archaic.
  8. Ugh, when the [expletive] did Kaplan take over as the co-anchor for the Comcast post-game show? That's going to be brutal.
  9. I have plenty of confidence for Marmol to get the job done in situations like that, but it's really, really frustrating to see him take so many pitches to finish it up.
  10. It doesn't really look like Fielder lost as much weight as those off season photos seemed to indicate.
  11. Aramis' career numbers when going after the first pitch: .313 .315 .573 .889 Though I'm not even sure what you're complaining about. Wow. I'm shocked by those numbers. For a slugger like Ramirez those numbers are really bad. Most sluggers absolutely destroy the first pitch. For example Soriano's 1.151, Pena's 1.141, or Soto's 1.271. Not really all that shocking given his approach at the plate, especially compared to those guys.
  12. I'd like to see Zambrano go one more inning since he's only pitched 5 and it's the bottom of their lineup.
  13. Do you know Wilken wasn't allowed to take any of the players he "truly wanted?" Of course not. And yes, the entire team is on a budget. Be patient. And too many people are conflating big spending with smart/good drafting and signing international free agents. Yes, I'd like to see the Cubs investing more in building their teams that way, but the key is in who they have doing their scouting and drafting as opposed to just throwing away big money because they can. Spend more, but spend smart.

  15. Drop: Luke Scott Add: Carlos Quentin

  17. State money wouldn't be "taking" money from taxpayers. You'd be paying the same taxes regardless.
  18. That was not a flattering shot of Rose at the start of that interview.
  19. +1. + the increase in payroll, overall bad team. Not to mention, I didn't like how Ricketts said he was going to spend $ on the draft and then didn't. Yeah, you can't be mad about that anymore. It's well-known now that he is literally building for the future in Latin America. A huge presence there is probably more important than spending big every year in the draft (with the exception of this year and 2001). I didn't read about the Cubs signing any big name Latin players, mostly just smaller slot guys. Ricketts better spend this June. ... He's talking about the Cubs' plans for a baseball academy in the Dominican Republican. And are you expecting the Ricketts to force Wilken to spend money?
  20. Rabblerabblerabble!
  21. The Giants had a 5 AND a 7-game losing streak last year.
  22. Probably the same amount as teams that have lost on 5 straight Wednesdays or some other arbitrary crap like that. 2, apparently ('74 Pirates and '95 Reds). That potentially seems way, way too low to actually mean anything.
