  1. Just when I think this thread can't get any worse.... ...I read this post and it TOTALLY redeemed itself!
  2. As opposed to what?
  3. WHOA, HOLY [expletive].
  4. Theo as the president is basically doing the same thing he would be doing as general manager except he'd more than likely have the final say on things which is a good thing. If we can find a way to bring in Jed Hoyer as general manager, we have one of the best front offices in baseball. Yeah, I have zero problem with this scenario at all.
  5. This is fascinating, if it actually plays out like that.
  6. Progress (hopefully).
  7. You can never come home, David.
  8. The Red Sox are going to let $6.5 million burn, and that's certainly worth more than the entirety of Australia. laugh now; when you're enslaved by australia in 5 years we'll see who's laughing. Nobody.
  9. Come on now. Two prospects in the 6-10 range is more than fair compensation for Epstein. That's less than the Guillen-Florida deal, for a more important role. If the Cubs get to hold onto their 5 best young MLers and 5 best prospects, we should be thrilled. AND YOU WANT TO BE MY LATEX SALESMAN.
  10. YOU GOTTA COME SEE THE BABY.
  11. HEY, NO SOUP FOR YOU, BANIA!
  12. If Marmol didn't blow that save this wouldn't be happening.
  13. This is kind of where I'm at. I'm pretty much all-in on Theo. Do I want to give up McNutt for him? Absolutely not, but if it's going to keep us from getting Theo, I don't feel like it's worth losing out on him for a pitcher like McNutt (who could end up being a very good 2/3 starter, but isn't a guarantee). Same here, but I doubt the Red Sox are just asking for McNutt and cash right now. If it was just that I think this would be done.
  14. The Red Sox are getting this death-glare right now: http://www.mycubstoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/chicago-cubs-tom-ricketts-jim-hendry.jpg
  15. Then they don't hold the most valuable asset. I don't understand how so many people just ignore how it's tremendously unlikely that Cherington can do anything as the GM so long as Epstein technically holds the title. If the Red Sox attempt to drag things out along those lines you're almost certainly looking at MLB stepping in and maybe even a lawsuit or two. Look, maybe Epstein's contract has some insane clause that says someone else can do his job while he holds the title and he can't say or do [expletive] about it...but I highly doubt it.
  16. Why, are they going to pay them with good intentions? California sunshine? Promises to not beat their asses in the parking lot?
  17. Well, it's Kaplan, so [expletive] him, but I've got no problem with the Cubs not blinking if the Red Sox aren't budging. What I just suggested of McNutt + cash is more than fair. Ricketts' badassery is just off the charts this year.
  18. Yup. If it's McNutt and cash then get it done.
  19. They can't give up McNutt simply because I hope to one day both genuinely AND ironically own a "McNutt" Cubs jersey.
  20. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ub-jfbVw6uc/TKPo18WJEkI/AAAAAAAAAek/H7Jyci4b21Q/s1600/old+baseball+fat.jpg
  21. Was Corey Patterson supposed to be a "league average player? Was that what he was touted to be or was the term: 5 tools/can't miss prospect the general norm? This is the same mentality as the Cubs fans who, for years, have been looking at Zambrano as a "bust" if he wasn't pitching like an ace.
  22. I'd like to think I had a part in driving cynosure crazy, at least based on the insane, furious PM's I was getting from him near the end.
  23. That's the saddest part; he never got to the see the Cubs under Theo.
  24. Huh. I totally thought this game was tomorrow night.
