  1. Tons of room in straightaway LF though. Surely why that location was chosen for the Toyota sign. Put a video board there with a Toyota logo on the top. They need to get some of that mad phat Coke money like Boston did and SF is.
  2. Basically what I'm saying is is that I heart Matt Kemp.
  3. I'd probably do Bumgarner, too. Maybe Upton. If Kemp even comes close to replicating his 2011 next year I'd consider him, too (if there wasn't such a good a chance he'd be a FA). If he does come close, he'll be looking at Yankee money. And I really hope the Cubs are the ones shelling out.

You'd trade Starlin Castro straight up for Matt Kemp? If he had a similar 2012 to 2011 and wasn't likely to be a FA, yeah. Dude was a 9 WAR player this season.

  6. you'd still need a home plate umpire to call safe and out at home and to call catcher's interference and whether the batter got hit by a pitch and stuff like that. there's no reason you couldn't just put a thing in his ear and let him signal balls and strikes anyway. Then bring on our robot overlords.
  7. The only one I recall being confused is you. Yes, hence why I said "confusion." But I wasn't. As I've now stated multiple times. Clear what up? I've pointed out where I was mistaken about the figures and stated I was wrong. You're now just flailing trying to prolong something that isn't happening anymore and making up arguments that don't exist.
  8. I don't think people remember the Jim Hendry all that accurately. If you don't think the problem with Hendry was that he overpaid for players based on past performance rather than future value, then I don't think you really understand the problem with the Jim Hendry era. When did Hendry ever "trade the farm" for that type of player? The Pierre trade is pretty much the only big bad one he had.
  9. WILL-I-AM HOLOGRAMS.
  10. Totally superficial, but it would kinda suck to lose that split second of waiting for the ump's response and then reacting to it. We'd all get used to reacting to a light or a buzzer or however the hell they'd signify the calls, but that's probably the one part I'd miss most.
  11. No, dave, I didn't. I clearly asserted that under the mistaken idea that the total revenues were around $24 million (remember the whole "floor" confusion?) and then guessing that expenses would be somewhere around $9-10 million. Nobody was arguing that the Cardinals were breaking even or running at a loss.
  12. Blah, what a crappy view behind Wrigley. Really wish they could have built a new stadium where Cabrini is (was) so they'd have the skyline rocking things.
  13. I feel the urge to bow down and worship before that.
  14. You may not have intended to argue that, but you absolutely were. Holy God, what? This is nuts, even for you.
  15. No dice; can't fight the power of the beer money bonus.
  16. ... Arguing that the revenues were reduced from $24 million to $14 million is obviously NOT arguing that the expenses matched or exceeded the revenues. If I was arguing that I would be saying the Cardinals made $0 or actually lost money. Did you missed the part where I clearly stated how I was coming at this before? My understanding of the $24 million was incorrect; I was thinking that was their total revenues. I was never arguing that the Cardinals broke even or lost money.
  17. Well, yeah; even I wasn't arguing that the expenses matched or exceeded the revenues. That's just common sense.
  18. So this information really isn't available to the public? I thought I was just bad at searching for it.
  19. So companies and contractors actually cut the team breaks for something like this? Man, my inherently jaded view of capitalism has lead me astray. Why would they do that? I assumed they'd be all cutthroat and be looking to jack things up. I wish I could even pretend to be interested in learning this type of stuff.
  20. I'm sure they bring in extra security and some extra Roasts, but that's all I can think of. The operating costs for a game like that have got to be in the low-six figures at best. Eh, like I said, I could easily be completely wrong about this kind of stuff. Finances and economics are about as far from my strong suit as you can get. I just always assumed it cost $1 million+ for those big games because it "sounded" right. Really, just get above $50,000 and I have no idea what's going on.
  21. If you have no idea, then how are you coming up with your figures? Like I said several times, spitballing. I'm just guessing. Spitball for me how many beers you think they sell at a Cardinals game. No idea. Probably 50,000-60,000, I guess? I don't have a clue.
  22. Why would a playoff game cost significantly more? Because it would be. Extreme example: do you think it costs significantly more to host the Super Bowl than a regular season NFL game? Yes. But a conference championship game probably carries with it similar operating costs to a regular-season game, and I missed the World Series halftime show featuring a popular musical act. Good point about the halftime show; I forgot about that. Like I said, I'm just assuming that the cost for things like maintenance and groundskeeping and security and supplies (hell maybe city costs like fees and [expletive]; I have no idea) goes way up when you're hosting something that "big." Like in that "we need to go out of our way to cover our asses" sort of way. I could easily be wrong; that's just hoe I've always assumed it went down.
  23. If you have no idea, then how are you coming up with your figures? Like I said several times, spitballing. I'm just guessing.
