  1. I was mostly quiet going into this week, but in a perverse way I was hoping for this so the feasting of tears could begin anew.
  2. Me too. However, it's because there is no "perfect" long term option to be gained through free agency. If you only sign perfect free agents, you'll never sign any free agent. Voltaire said it best: "Don't let perfect be the enemy of good" Yup. You're not going to find anyone here who isn't going to acknowledge that both players have concerns/risks going in to a monster deal, but that's true for pretty much any impact FA a team signs. There's no such thing as the perfect FA.
  3. PFT and the Fort Worth Star Telegram amongst others are also reporting this... so google tells me.... there are 727 articles... Plus B&B are sort of the anti-meatballs of radio. I think they invented the term meatball... They also talk authoritatively about things they don't have a clue about sometimes... as they did today when trying to explain the waiver process and while called out by texters/emailers every time they said something wrong. Right; even the least meatball-y radio show is still meatball central. The Cowboys might have been looking to block the Bears in a kill two birds with one stone kinda deal, but their main issue in looking for someone like Orton is the concerns over Kitna's back health. The idea that their main goal in claiming Orton was to try and trip up the Bears is silly.
  4. Not necessarily. Pujols and Fielder go beyond the 1B market. Teams with a 1B could sign them to DH or move their existing IB to DH or OF if posssible or trade an existing 1B. They're that good. Pena only appeals to teams with an immediate need for a 1B and there are multiple so-so options and only so many teams with an immediate need at that spot. In fact, aside from the Cubs, the teams who have been linked the most to Fielder, The Mariners, Marlins, and Angels all have their own existing 1B. Why would Pena not be an option for a team looking for a DH?
  5. Why would Pena accept arbitration if the Cubs sign Fielder or Pujols? Those guys being off the market just increase his shot at getting a bigger deal.
  6. Wait, we're really pretending that wasn't just radio meatballin'? That's funny.
  7. Hopefully he accepts. I am a big fan of Pena. I wouldn't mind him being here a couple more years while we focus more on SP, 3B, and OF needs. You're the blurst.
  8. And yes, I know what the UZR numbers are. I know what Braun's are, too Both guys are basically serviceable at best fielders. I just don't know why you're arguing like Kemp's defensive numbers last year are such a slam dunk knock against him as if Braun's aren't against him.
  9. BR has him rated at a 1.0 defensive WAR last season.
  10. That's certainly debatable.
  11. Do you think Braun would be a better defensive SS than Betancourt? A better defensive CF than Kemp? Never claimed that. Just saying Kemp hurt his team in CF. Not last year.
  12. Holy hell, did you really believe this? Holy hell no team has ever picked up an available player to prevent them from going to another team. It's Kyle Orton.
  13. Holy hell, did you really believe this?
  14. AND NOW HE'S ON A TURKEY SAFARI WHEN HE NEEDS TO ANSWER FOR THIS.
  15. So if we ignore the worst part of his season, his season looks better? I will never get tired of disliking these types of arguments. His season is his season. Tacking on his postseason numbers to show how close he got to recovering from the slump makes sense to me. Parsing out his pre-April 11 numbers does not. Kyle, we're talking about the first 10 games here. Pujols played in 147 games during the regular season. It's not like anyone is suggesting that you "ignore" half of his season or something ridiculous.
  16. All depends on what he's getting each of those eight years. Could the up front money indicate that the per year salary will be in the lower range?
  17. A headline on deadspin this morning is: "For Some Bizarre Reason, A Jay Cutler Injury Is Shocking News" There will be a perception of Cutler as soft. I guess I'm looking at this from the perspective of a Bears fan, so yeah, I guess non-Bears fan aren't going to pay as much attention to them as I do, but I had no idea Cutler being easily injured was a "thing." They're acting like last year was his rookie season or something. Cutler being durable was a thing, but then came the concussion, knee and now thumb. It will become a thing. So dumb. "QUARTERBACK SACKED AN INSANE AMOUNT OF TIMES! UNRELATED: IS EASILY INJURED!"
  18. Why the [expletive] do you want to see more from Colvin? We know what he's worth.

  20. Even the meatballs won't go with that, will they? It's not like he's dealing with chronic, nagging injuries. He came back from last season no problem and this is just his thumb. Are even the meatballs THAT dumb? I'm sure some will. If this season goes down the tubes, they will harp on Cutler being fragile. This is just far out of my scope of reasoning that it blows my mind; it's like the "he's soft" talk. The guy has had the absolute [expletive] kicked out of him since he's come here and all he's ended up with is a relatively minor knee injury, a concussion and a broken thumb (all while playing with diabetes) and there are people who think he's fragile? If he was actually fragile he'd have been crippled or dead a while ago.
