  1. Lists aren't out yet, but I'd just about guarantee a top 10 this year. Good chance they have 5 guys in BA's top 100 in Miller, Martinez, Wong, Taveras and Cox. That's a huge leap. You really think they jumped 15+ spots in the rankings in a single season?
  2. They have a top 10 farm system and no contracts that look to be albatrosses. 55 mil in guaranteed money in 2013, 25 in 2014 and 26 in 2015. A good system and a lot of money is pretty much exactly how you'd want to be set up for the long term, isn't it? Who has the Cardinals system ranked in the top 10? Serious question, because BA had you guys ranked 24th last year. Yeah, I thought going into last year the Cards had a pretty crappily rated system. Did they have a bunch of guys take big leaps coupled with a great draft?
  3. Gee, it's almost like signing impact free agents could help.
  4. Congratulations: you've just recognized the reality of almost every big ticket FA.
  5. Boy, you showed him Mr Mod! well, moderator. we just say moderator. Yesssssss.
  6. So he's Joey Gathright/Felix Pie reincarnated. Wait, don't we already have Tony Campana? what the [expletive] does he actually have in common with Felix Pie??? Speed, strikes out twice as often as he walks, no power. Pie put up a .468 slugging performance in the minors
  7. I just talked to my lunch as it erupted all over my desk.
  8. TWO OF THOSE GUYS ARE GONE AFTER THE NEXT SEASON. God [expletive] dammit.
  9. Yes, exactly. One can hate this while not losing sight of the bigger picture.
  10. I haven't "turned on them;" as I've stated numerous times it's just awful to witness right now. I'm more than willing to give the FO the time they need to turn it around, but in the meantime I'm not going to pretend [expletive] like this is enjoyable or reason for optimism. If they're going for the long rebuild it's going to really, really suck for a while. I'm also still hoping they're going to end up with Prince and one of the Cubans, plus maybe pull off an awesome trade or two. It's just awful at this moment.
  11. There's nothing to imagine. Aramis and Pena are gone and they've been replaced by Ian [expletive] Stewart and nobody so far.
  12. Yes. We are frothing at the mouth and rending our garments.
  13. I don't feel bad for him at all. He was terrible at his job.
  14. Pujols was the top of the heap; it made sense for him and his agent to set the market, not let it be set for them. Now that you have the big names gone Fielder and Boras can take their time to get the deal they want. There's no reason for them to rush anything.
  15. Johnson's defense doesn't make him all that appealing a platoon player, especially if he's having to man a corner spot.
  16. It's more than just about him being fat. It's about trying to match up his best years when we're going to be competitive. If we're signing him while accepting the fact that we still won't be much more than an 80 win team next season, then likely his best season as a Cub was just wasted. Also, a lot of posters seem okay with the thought that the end of the contract won't be great for Prince personally, so there's 2-3 wasted years of a huge contract. It's just a bad time. But yes, fat players have shown more of a propensity to decline sooner. It'll continue to be a bad time if they continually talk themselves out of singing impact FA because the first year they'll likely only be around .500 at best.
  17. So you'd be okay giving a 31 year old Ethier a 4 year deal? Dude, you don't understand; HE'S NOT FAT. You're getting me confused with someone else. My position on Prince has changed somewhat because Rizzo may be available and I really, really like his chances. And because we missed out on a bigtime pitcher. If Rizzo becomes what he's capable of, we'd have that much more cash to spend elsewhere. Along with I'm really starting to think Prince is getting 200 mill. I think he's an impact guy for sure. But I think Rizzo will be and obviously would come a hell of a lot cheaper. And if I had $500 every time someone here ridiculed a finished product in favor of some prospect who's incredibly likely to not be anywhere near as good as people think, I'd be a hell of a lot richer and happier. Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup. Come on, he's mashing in the PCL! The guy is all but a lock!
  18. He man, you avoid not getting locked into fatty money then you can afford the WORLD.
  19. So you'd be okay giving a 31 year old Ethier a 4 year deal? Dude, you don't understand; HE'S NOT FAT.
  20. I was asked who we COULD spend money on in 2013. BASED ON A SCENARIO I had mentioned. As one of the biggest bats avaialable that offseason, I mentioned him, proceeded to say he wouldn't hit the market, followed by saying he had tons of red flags, followed by saying if I'm signing a bat from that class, it'd probably be Upton or maybe Ethier, but we'd probably have to trade for a bat because the class is so weak. What a ringing endorsment for Josh Hamilton I gave! Ethier? Jesus Christ. What's wrong with Ethier, other than he's evidently a prick towards some of his current teammates? He played hurt most of this past season and his 3 previous ones he had OPS'S of .885, .869, and .857. He'd be 31 at that point and could probably be had on a 3 or 4 year deal. I don't see a problem with him. He's not great defensively? That's not enough to bother me about him. Too old, too overrated, too expensive.
