  1. There's plenty of room to be willing for the Cubs to spend big on a free agent, and also be critical of the mid-market Reds for signing Votto to market value through age 40 when he's still 2 years from free agency. Their payroll isn't inflexible.
  2. It's like some people are expecting another team to inexplicably fire the next David Ortiz for the Cubs to swoop in on, but no way in hell should they also go out and spend money on a Manny Ramirez.
  3. If your kids want to try marijuana they will have absolutely no problem finding an opportunity to do so. Whether it's illegal or not is completely irrelevant. Decreased the percentage of alcoholics and the number of alcohol-related fatalities. Ugh, I took the bait. This guy be trollin'.
  4. That you think the Bulls can't score without Rose and that you actually think saying they lack "athleticism" like that's a thing is pretty ridiculous. That you think everyone is going to be saying you were right is even more ridiculous.
  5. [expletive], I thought next year was the team option.
  6. Right on, my man! High five!
  7. Ooooh, maybe he's saying you're a gay. That's a good one.
  8. Paying Eyre/Howry/Grabow and their ilk a 1-year-deal wasn't the problem.
  9. I don't think people "turned" on him so much as he's in a very competitive bracket where we have few picks. Plus he's old and has a significant injury history.
  10. Sure, that's it.
  11. Everything is a sacred cow to them. It gets tedious. They're just pandering to a different type of meatball.
  12. fact Boers is an old bitter douche, but Bernstein makes it listenable sports talk radio. It's light years better than most of the meatheads out there spouting garbage on a daily basis. but it's complete irony for Bernstein to write an op-ed about King being over the top when he sits next to Terry "By Cracky" Boers every day. Yuuuuuuuuuuuuup. The irony of a radio guy who drags out audio drops and sound bytes and encouraging his ape of a partner with his schtick for YEARS is pretty delicious.
  13. I think they go too far to the opposite extreme and just come off as guys who try to hard to "hate" everything; I stopped listening to their show when I realized that they go out of their way to not come across as fans of anything sports-related. I know it's a daily show and "sports journalism" is an oxymoron to begin with and I never like to say that anyone is being too negative, but these schmucks are just too negative for the sake of filling time on their crappy radio show, and they try to do it under the pretense of either "hey, we're just a goofy sports show, it doesn't matter" or stopping on a dime and acting like, "this is serious, we're exposing the truth and nobody can handle it." I agree, they're the closest to actually having a tolerable radio show when they have decent analysis/criticism creep in from time to time, but inevitably they just go tumbling over the edge of sports radio douchebaggery.
  14. Boers & Bernstein are smarmy garbage.
  15. 8, 20; whatever.
  16. I'm not seeing the point. The internal options might not be great, but at this point what are we going to get that's worth paying for the minimal upgrade? Even if it's just some $250 K vet, I'd just as soon try Parker, Caridad, Gaub, etc. Devil's advocate: it's not like they don't have more than enough money. Obviously we don't want them going out there and giving out Eyre/Howry/Grabow contracts, but I'm really not going to lose sleep if they pay someone a small 1-year-deal.
  17. I think the WGN part would be the main sticking point, at least in terms of maximizing the rest of the Comcast deal, given the Ricketts' involvement with Comcast.
  18. I've got a few jerseys, but they're only for going to games or for bumming around the house.
  19. uhhhh wat NOTIMETOCHECKMUSTBEPOSTINGALWAYSBEPOSTING
  20. Jed? Theo? You guys wanna step in at any point? Where's some of that J.D. Drew-style love for Soto?
  21. Because, really, it looks like the cub has a raging bear-boner. And some kind of freakish back-dong, too, but still; bear-boner.
