  1. Paying Eyre/Howry/Grabow and their ilk a 1-year-deal wasn't the problem.
  2. I don't think people "turned" on him so much as he's in a very competitive bracket where we have few picks. Plus he's old and has a significant injury history.
  3. Sure, that's it.
  4. Everything is a sacred cow to them. It gets tedious. They're just pandering to a different type of meatball.
  5. fact Boers is an old bitter douche, but Bernstein makes it listenable sports talk radio. It's light years better than most of the meatheads out there spouting garbage on a daily basis. but it's complete irony for Bernstein to write an op-ed about King being over the top when he sits next to Terry "By Cracky" Boers every day. Yuuuuuuuuuuuuup. The irony of a radio guy who drags out audio drops and sound bytes and encouraging his ape of a partner with his schtick for YEARS is pretty delicious.
  6. I think they go too far to the opposite extreme and just come off as guys who try to hard to "hate" everything; I stopped listening to their show when I realized that they go out of their way to not come across as fans of anything sports-related. I know it's a daily show and "sports journalism" is an oxymoron to begin with and I never like to say that anyone is being too negative, but these schmucks are just too negative for the sake of filling time on their crappy radio show, and they try to do it under the pretense of either "hey, we're just a goofy sports show, it doesn't matter" or stopping on a dime and acting like, "this is serious, we're exposing the truth and nobody can handle it." I agree, they're the closest to actually having a tolerable radio show when they have decent analysis/criticism creep in from time to time, but inevitably they just go tumbling over the edge of sports radio douchebaggery.
  7. Boers & Bernstein are smarmy garbage.
  8. 8, 20; whatever.
  9. I'm not seeing the point. The internal options might not be great, but at this point what are we going to get that's worth paying for the minimal upgrade? Even if it's just some $250 K vet, I'd just as soon try Parker, Caridad, Gaub, etc. Devil's advocate: it's not like they don't have more than enough money. Obviously we don't want them going out there and giving out Eyre/Howry/Grabow contracts, but I'm really not going to lose sleep if they pay someone a small 1-year-deal.
  10. I think the WGN part would be the main sticking point, at least in terms of maximizing the rest of the Comcast deal, given the Ricketts' involvement with Comcast.
  11. I've got a few jerseys, but they're only for going to games or for bumming around the house.
  12. uhhhh wat NOTIMETOCHECKMUSTBEPOSTINGALWAYSBEPOSTING
  13. Jed? Theo? You guys wanna step in at any point? Where's some of that J.D. Drew-style love for Soto?
  14. Because, really, it looks like the cub has a raging bear-boner. And some kind of freakish back-dong, too, but still; bear-boner.
  15. For a comparison, Soto had a damn good 2010 season, the entire OF was solid, Colvin came out of nowhere with great numbers, Castro had a solid debut, Theriot did everything Darwin Barney can do and the team still finished 10th in the NL in runs scored and OPS. The rotation was fairly stable and relatively deep (the highest ERA among starters was 4.26 and 3 guys were sub 4.00) and Marmol and Marshall were great yet they still only won 75 games. I think a lot of people are putting a lot of faith in the notion that they won't be as horrible as they were last year in some spots. But you actually have to have some good players to be a good team. The Cubs don't have nearly enough good players. This.
  16. I've got that one. Easily my favorite.
  17. You're using that wrong; they did actually make a terrible mistake.

  19. Hahahahahahaah! Did not notice the kids before; that's awesome.
  20. I really wish I could jump that high.
  21. Side by side/my amigo.
  22. TRAMAMPOLINE. TRAMOMPOLINE.
  23. Because that's where the marlins are splashing back into the water after their majestic leap through the air, d'uh.
  24. Only? I've worked very hard to not work very hard to reach that, dammit.
