It's right up there with, "we used to shift a ton and it worked great, but then inexplicably we knocked it WAY down for reasons," as the new market inefficiency. Well assuming you're talking about 2016, we were 29th in shifts that year at 4.6%, only ahead of the Marlins, who I'm guessing didn't even teach the concept. Since then we've gone 29th, 28th, and this year we're at 23rd, 14.2%. Same horsefeathers that happened last year with him. Is it as common with other teams to intentionally shorten their bench by refusing to put them on the injured list as it is with us? I swear we have a 'on roster but unplayable' player in like 60% of our games the last year-plus. It's right up there with, "we used to shift a ton and it worked great, but then inexplicably we knocked it WAY down for reasons," as the new market inefficiency. -
Theo has specifically said there's no untouchable players. True, but there was a lot of talk about a "core" of 4 players, and I'm pretty sure that was it....and that's essentially, IMO, saying that those guys were untradeable at the time.

What was the "core" of basically untouchable players Theo was talking about at one point? Wasn't it Bryant, Rizzo, Schwarber and Russell? Yeesh.

So long as Happ is in the org and still healthy, there's absolutely no reason for Russell to be up. (Obviously there's no good reason for him to be on the team, period)

That's my take on the whole thing; like, let's say he turns it around and starts playing well again for a while. How realistic is it to say he's an actual trade asset? His whole rep right now is as an abusive scumbag, so how many teams are going to actually give up anything of value for him? Yeah, I know teams have been more than happy in the past (including the VERY recent past) to gloss over this type of thing, but it does definitely feel like things have changed and are changing in terms of how fans and the media approach players like this. It seems like complete BS for the Cubs to be trying to shape this like they either want him to be good enough again to be a viable trade chip OR a useful player on the Cubs, because there's essentially no way for him to get out from under the stain (and rightly so) of what he did multiple times. This guy is NEVER going to be of any real value in a trade, and it's a horsefeathering farce for the Cubs to essentially act like he still needs to be on the team along those lines.

Yeah, some people are talking about him like he's a lock to be another Giannis, which, OK; calm WAY down, folks. My hot, maybe not so hot, take is this draft pretty much sucks. It’s a bunch of role players/2nd-4th best players on a championship team at best (even Zion and Morant) and the media/narrative around it is trying to push guys to be things they likely aren’t at the NBA level because there always needs to be a GUY or GUYS taken high. Agreed. There's a bunch of "someone's eventually gonna have to pay a max contract to a guy who's not REALLY a max contract guy" guys in this one.

LOL WUT? I think he’s being overblown as a Lebron or KD type franchise changer, for sure top 1-3 player in the league, that guarantees conference/finals runs with pretty much just him and role players. You have to take him #1, don’t get me wrong. But I think how it’s being talked about as an afterthought that’s he’s a lock to be this for sure great player is a bit much. He’s much more likely some weird new age combo of Draymond/Julius Randle/Blake Griffin type player to me. Which is perfectly fine.
