  1. He's a young pitcher coming back from major surgery (and yes, it's still that despite how often it's done and how often it's successful). They're a team with a lot of money that have an incredible anchor for the future in Strasburg and Harper. To think that this is likely their only shot over the course of having those two seems like it would lead to a foolhardy course of action.
  2. Bolt is lord.
  3. Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw Rizzo forget how many outs there were. Knew he wouldn't get any heat for it. Yup. Sad, but totally expected.
  4. Holy Christ, that is some fatness.
  5. Adam Dunn was a horrendous and completely unacceptable OFer, so God only knows what the [expletive] you're talking about. What I'm talking about is that as horrendous his OF defense was, his bat was valuable enough that they were willing to accept it in order to get it in the lineup, so assuming he continues to develope as the beast that he is early on, and assuming that Rizzo is our long term 1B, is giving Vogelbach some OF reps an option? Just because a team was stupid enough to be "willing to accept it" doesn't mean it was a good decision. Dunn basically annihilated his WAR during his peak years because of how bad his defense was.
  6. Man, I really cannot wait for it to happen. It's such a disadvantage for team construct in the NL.
  7. Is it possible to respect Tim's analysis as well as the analysis of those on the other side? Tim brings up very good points, so it's not just one of the usual doom and gloomers. I don't necessarily agree with the conclusion, but that doesn't mean that the analysis should be dismissed. Didn't say it shouldn't be dismissed; just annoyed by your declaration that everything in the thread is "depressing." It's just seemingly the umpteenth example of you posting without reading everything.

  9. Really? Unless you and WSR are only reading Tim's posts I'm not sure how you're coming to your conclusions.
  10. You don't think it was mentioned to him in ST? Really? I have no idea; I'm simply presenting my reasoning as to why I think he's put up the performance he has this year vs. the last two seasons. I'm still curious as to what you think the reason(s) might be instead of just hearing yet again about how his projections are going to take a hit if he doesn't turn it around.
  11. Unreal. This is an 19 year old Cubs prospect with a 1.151 OPS. In his first professional season. EDIT: 1.284 OPS. Can we put this into context for a second? Has this kind of crushery been duplicated in the past by someone at a similar age/stage of their career for us? 2004 Dopriak in low A (Lansing) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I think Dopriak was 20 years old in his 2nd season. One year older, one level up. Similar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk And even then Vogelbach is about .200 points up on what Dopirak's OPS ended up being that year. Nuts.
  12. It's not necessarily all that arbitrary based on the idea that this can be attributed to the new FO taking a different approach to him (personally I don't think it's much coincidence that you saw this change and then Jaramillio was gone shortly thereafter), but whatever.
  13. Basically sneaky is now the King of NSBB.
  14. A franchise player is a really, really valuable player. An excellent SS is a really, really valuable player.
  15. Castro's last 38 games: 8.2% BB, 13.3% K, .207/.272/.352 (.210 babip) Castro's previous 72 games: 1.9% BB, 17.0% K, .304/.317/.445 (.347 babip) honestly, a .310 babip makes that a great line; i actually feel much better about his offense going forward now than i did when he was flailing at everything but hitting .300 Excellent.
  16. The rest is cool, but RBI's as a stat suck butt.
  17. Nobody is excited about Steve Clevenger. Not even Steve Clevenger.
  18. Hey, if he can be at least a 6-7 WAR player, OK, MAYBE I'll like him.
