    Well, he did that last year with his awesome .311 .368 .475 .844 line in the final month after the previous three months were pretty underwhelming, but right now that last month is looking like it might be the epitome of false hope.

    Brett Jackson is gonna be selling cars in a couple of years. Hard to believe two years ago he was the #1 prospect in the system. Given the drafting track record of the FO that drafted him...nah.

    and that .750 OPS guy would be pretty nice if he's not supposed to be a centerpiece player. i'm ok with letting go back. Yeah, still a valuable player whether they keep or opt to trade him since he has such a reasonable contract. Anything to stop this slide into baseball-Ebola.

    Maybe he's just not the type of player that jives with the FO's preferred approach. Maybe they just need to let him go back to being the more aggressive hitter he was before instead of trying to make him more patient.

    there should be a thread for dumb baseball opinions we held as kids i used to tell everyone that shawon dunston was just as good, if not better, than ozzie smith I had complete reverence for Leon Durham, and hated Mark Grace for years for taking Durham's job. 13-year-old-me thought that Rick Wilkins was a god.

    The only possible way there would be at least 3 new pages with actual news about Cubs prospects in that short amount of time is if their bus crashed or there was some kind of Last Boy Scout-type situation.

    That's not hate for him personally. That's hate for the double-standard. He's a douchey ex-athlete, but if I hated every douchey ex- or current athlete, I wouldn't have time for anything but hate. Certainly not making enough message board posts to meet my daily quota. Seriously though, can you imagine that story happening today? Was it one year after he signed what was then the biggest contract in MLB history? A perennial all star on the HOF fast track with what was a pristine reputation just quitting out of nowhere to spend time with his family, only to divorce his harpy wife and come back a much worse player. That ranks right up there with any interesting baseball story, although baseball players, by rule, are not interesting. I love Sandberg the player and wish I could somehow transport back to a time when I knew absolutely nothing about him except him being awesome at baseball because everything else he does and says just annoys the [expletive] piss outta me. Just the Palmeiro trade rumor stuff alone is enough to bring the hate.

    You joke about it now, but for the longest time the home run was basically shunned as being "unsportsmanlike" and pitchers were expected to essentially always pitch entire games. Things change. Totes, bra.

    what about little league and the japanese central league? Who cares? well, little league is the largest organized baseball system on earth, and the central league is half of japanese professional baseball's highest level, so that would tend to contradict your statement about it existing at every level and in every organization except the NL. not to mention all the times that pitchers bat in AA and AAA when national league affiliates are facing each other. Bringing up little league in the first place is just ridiculous. Basically the development track for any player worth a damn after high school is to take the bat out of their hands outside of bunting if they're a pitcher. I know you don't honestly believe that the DH trend is inexplicably going to reverse itself, so why are we talking about this like there's some kind of argument that's going to stop the use of it?
