  1. Well, with Pierre signing...this is just unfathomable for the Dodgers. What the hell is Coletti thinking? "Lets see, I have some of the top prospects in the game, all of which performed fairly well at some point last year in the majors...I know, I'LL BLOCK THEM! FOR FIVE YEARS! YEAH!"
  2. If we get Schmidt I'd be ecstatic. I can't say he was my top option...but if we're spending like crazy, may as well get him too.
  3. If the only difference between Izturis and Theriot were a walk per week, you might be right. But Izturis can't hit for average or moderate power either.... and Theriot does both. Theriot's advantage on offense blows Izturis's on defense away. How so? Theriot's short stint up here last year excluded, he's never shown power, ever. Izturis's career ML SLG is barely different from Theriot's career minor league SLG. Theriot's advantage on offense has yet to be extrapolated out to an entire year in the majors. I don't think he has a chance in hell to post his minor league numbers, let alone his short superhuman stint last year. Theriot can walk more and costs less. Those are his advantages. He doesn't hit for more power than Izturis, and avg doesn't matter if you can't do anything else to back it up.
  4. Prolly not, unless it was for a guy like ManRam, or somebody of that ilk. Where are they all going to play then? Why can't they all play in the majors next year? Am I forgetting someone?
  5. I also said Westbrook. I personally would make a play for Lugo so we can play Pie.
  6. That's what I thought I remembered. He said he was going to try to get Len to come here, or that he WAS going to get Len to come here. Something like that.
  7. That's the hardest I've laughed in this thread yet. And that is saying something. Right on, man! All this twaddle about "stats" is just one more attempt by our oppressively monolithic Western culture to subvert your deep-seated natural instincts and to denigrate the rightful primacy of your sociocultural background and condition by subjugating you with it's fascistic "ideas" and "facts." This cult of heartless, dreamkilling fascists plots to rip us out of the rich cultural tapestry into which we were born, and to rend us from the abiding connection to our cultural roots which is the source of all truly abiding nourishment and sustenance. Thousands of endangered sac bunts die every day, and what do we do? But you can see through this--you and perhaps you alone can see through their imperalistic claims of "objective truth" and obsession with illusory "facts." You and perhaps you alone can see that they wish to tear you from your natural impulses-- the exhilaration of exciting plays unmediated by reflection. You and St. Morgan may be our last hope-- to protect the sanctity of pristine baseball-in-the-moment experience and anecdotes-around-the-fire from the fetid conspiracy of these boot-licking statistics lovers! Down with the fascism of facts! Or not. Good point.

  13. he is a good player, but he's also overrated. he's being paid like one of the best players in baseball, and he clearly isn't. How is he overrated? Please no stats involved. Your opinion. And I agree with you that he doesn't deserve to get a $136 million dollar contract. But I will never consider him to be overrated. i think jacque jones is better than albert pujols. prove me wrong...oh, and please no stats involved. Pujols has an MVP. Couldn't that be considered a stat? (following stats may or not be real, I don't care) HR: 47 RsBI: 129 MVP: 1 Sorry Tim, Jones > Pujols
  14. You should meet my friend, Mr. Facts. Hmmm, Mr. Facts shows that out of 8 seasons for Drew, 4 of them were seriously hampered due to injury and 2 others were less than 140 games. That's what is known in the real universe as a player with injury problems. Minus breaking his wrist last year due to being HBP -- which can't really be attributed to being injury prone, I think -- he's been fairly healthy the last three years. Okay, well you can't just look at the past 3 years and ignore the first 5. Especially when last year he missed time (although a fluke injury). IIRC he was also injured some in 2005. Didn't miss a ton of time but had some sort of injury. I will say that he gets minor injuries fairly often, but 145 games of Drew > Soriano IMO. Without the broken wrist last year, I imagine he ends up between 140 and 150 games. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in looking at 3 year trends rather than a whole career.

  16. I'd prefer someone else too, but if it came down to Izturis or Theriot, I don't think it's really a debate. Well, I wouldn't mind Theriot if we get a centerfielder (Roberts, Drew, etc), but I would rather us get a SS and play Pie.
  17. why not JD Drew? If we're spending, let's spend! Out of those options, I like Jones because he doesn't require another free agent signing (with the quota and all, we only get one more if I'm not mistaken). If we're going to get pitchers via trade, then Dave Roberts would be the option on that list that I like most. if we improve at SS (lugo), then I would love Pie in center. Probably the best option defensively as well.
  18. I don't really want Theriot starting. Super sub/util is fine, especially at his price. Otherwise I would prefer something else.
  19. /cheers for the royals I'd say there's a 90% chance he never repeats what he did last year. And we're paying him money for years like last year. And we're paying him that same amount of money for 8 years. And we can't trade him. Even if we wanted to, he can stop it, even after his NTC expires. And he's essentially untradeable with his contract anyways. It's not a good deal. The only way it's justified is if he produces like this for at least some part of his contract, even though it's extremely unlikely. Is it nice to have Soriano? Sure. It's still not a good signing.
