  1. Yeah, WTF? It's like they're actively trying to be bad. It stared last year by actually paying Gange money and now this. yeah they were actively trying to be bad by acquiring a top 3 starter in the majors and improving from 07 -> 08. this is a weird trade though.
  2. If Hendry pulls off the Peavy deal, he can have one free night at any brothel in Vegas on me. There are no brothels in Vegas proper (at least not any legal ones). You have to go into the neighboring counties to enjoy that part of the nightlife. pahrump is only 45 minutes away. i'd drive him and pay myself if it meant we had peavy.
  3. Honestly, I don't think there is any basis for Turris to get suspended. He may have been running his mouth, but that's all he did until he got a knuckle sandwich. Then it was just a fight. Versteeg clearly escalated it from trash talk to a fight. If that's grounds for a suspension, which I don't think it is, then he might be in trouble. instigators in the last 5 minutes of a game get an automatic 1 game suspension. sometimes it's revoked but this doesn't sound like one of those times.
  4. the suspension doesn't really make senes to me either. however, it really, really sounds like dallas's veterans hate him. that's going to be a pretty huge problem going forward, if it isn't already.
  5. huet is one of the streakiest goalies i've ever watched...i'd give him a chance to have a hot streak before anyone crucifies him or tallon. i actually thought he played okay...not great, but alright. when khabi inevitably cools off, it's going to be nice to have another solid option in huet.
  6. i ended up being able to watch. the kings were responsible in their own end...i really hate that gauthier/preissing pairing and it bites them about once a game. other than that, they played well. much closer than the 5-2 score for sure. hawks got a little undisciplined late (that too many men call was just terrible by the hawks).
  7. nope. i have some stuff i have to do so i'm dvr'ing the game and watching it when i'm done. actually should be a really good game, assuming the kings can play defense like they did against edmonton and not like they did against calgary.
  8. Unfortunatley Parros had the advantage of having a ginormous pornstache. fix'd. that guys 'stache is legendary. if he was a better fighter and/or not a duck, he'd probably be one of my favorite players.
  9. It does and it doesn't at least getting a point against teams like the San Jose and Detriot doesn't bother me. Losing to teams like the Bruins or Blues is getting old when we lose in shoot outs with them. why are you okay with getting one point against SJ/Detroit and not Boston? St. Louis I understand, but Boston is tied for the 2nd most points in the NHL.
  10. o'byrne is just awful. that's even worse than backstrom's own goal against the pens last year.
  11. yeah you've got the wrong poster with that one. Like there's ever a wrong time to bring that up. there's never a bad time...it just doesn't make much sense.
  12. yeah you've got the wrong poster with that one.
  13. Perhaps I'm too optimistic, but I don't see this trip as being as bad as most years when they hit up CAL-EDM-VAN over Thanksgiving. Basically, it's two three-game trips. They'll go home after Toronto on Saturday for a few days before heading to San Jose. As Foley said the other night in his best line of the new season, "it'll give us a chance to change our underwear." Obviously, winning tonight's game against a not-so-good Phoenix team will be big. Phoenix is pretty good, actually. they're very talented, at the very least. there isn't a really bad team in the west right now except for St. Louis, and the Blues are only bad because they have like 55 guys on the IR right now.
  14. i wasn't really replying to anyone in specific. no stat is really good on its own. i don't really see why we're pointing to one statistic as being good or bad (though ERA and ERA+ are as bad as it gets if you look at them alone).
  15. it's also worth noting that randy johnson had a bad back in 2006 that, IIRC, really affected him when he was pitching out of the stretch. he had a LOB% of 61.8 that year, which is insanely low (average is around 70 off the top of my head). in 04 he had a 69.5 LOB%, 05 = 74.1, 07 = 72.6, and 08 = 70.9. 06 was a fluke due to a bad back which he had surgery on. it doesn't bother him any more, it's stupid to look at his 06 as an indicator of future success (or lackthereof). also quoting ERA, saying ERA is a bad stat, and then saying ERA+ is a good stat is kind of weird.
  16. Seriously? It was a gimmick hire, but man, I thought they'd let it ride a while. Melrose pretty much talked to every mic put in front of him. And kudos to him for it. He basically said it was clear early on that the players had all the power and that they didn't want to be held accountable when they didn't play hard. Doesn't say much for the TB players that they obviously quit on their coach barely 15 games into the season. Especially Lecavalier, who hasn't played well. considering they played under tortorella forever, and he's always been known as a pretty harsh coach to play for, i think it speaks more to melrose than the players. i read that he actually skipped a practice shortly before being fired.
  17. aren't they all? Apparently someone hasn't seen the replay of the OT penalty. Clean play, misscalled. the hawks should be 15-0-0 imo No need for sarcasm unless you actually see the replay, thanks. bad calls happen ALL the time. seriously. like a few times a game. anyway i looked at hfboards and quickly figured out that you're SeanAvery, and you're one of...two people complaining about the call. no mention of it on any highlights that i've seen. so i repeat my previous thought: the hawks should be 15-0-0 imo.

  19. i'm going to help you out. shootouts are a joke the trap is a joke the nhl is out to screw the hawks
  20. Troy Brouwer picks up a PPG. he's an assist away from a Gordie Howe hat trick. 6-1.
  21. Walker and Prust fight...endurance test, lol. Edge to Walker.
  22. i think the Hawks are just playing a physical game period, i don't know what you really can expect after that. they've clearly controlled the game in every aspect tonight, and have thrown some punishing hits to go with it. Right there was a perfect example. Sarich nailed Sharp, arm goes up, whistle blows. Havlat strolls around like nothing happened. Brouwer finally came in to give him the business, but it was half-hearted. But hey, I know I'm nit-picking. havlat has never been the kind of guy to step up physically unless he's kicking someone, so i think the expectation of him to do that is too much (which really is an indictment on havlat -- i love his skill but he's certainly not a player i would want on my team if i were building one). i thought brouwer did fine. it wasn't an insanely dirty hit, but it drew a response. olczyck pointed it, but the dmen came in too. plus walker ended up hitting iginlar hard like a shift or two later.
  23. heh, there you go. Brouwer standing up for Sharp after a dirty hit.
