  1. On a related note, it looks like Ray Emery is playing his way back into the NHL over there in Russia. Also, does anyone else think its insane that Sean Avery is basically kicked out of the NHL for the season because Morrow/Turco/Modano are a bunch of pansy pushovers who couldn't tell him to shutup in the locker room? Shanahan and Jagr could handle him fine. Same with the veterans in Detroit. I guess all the talk about Morrow being the greatest leader ever can be discounted. what suggests that the veterans in detroit liked him (besides Hull)? he got traded to the kings, after all. then he got run off the team there on two occasions. then, despite all of the success with him in the lineup and cap room coming off the books thanks to said veterans, he wasn't re-signed by the rangers. he's run out of the league because despite what veterans say to him, he doesn't listen. he puts himself ahead of the team and it cost him his job. i don't get any complaining about this.
  2. i think ovechkin is probably the most "exciting" player, but datsyuk is probably a better all-around player. datsyuk isn't marketed because he isn't particularly marketable. he's not talkative or a good quote -- and he's russian -- so he doesn't get press. it's a shame, but as you say, it happens in every sport. so how will the kings blow tonight's game against the wings? should be interesting.
  3. yeah, i don't know why anybody would want to watch two of the top five players in the game, averaging like 21 years old, facing off against each other on another unrelated note, Pavel Datsyuk's the best player in the NHL right now on top of that, it's just a good matchup between two very good teams (even if the pens are sliding right now). that was a fun game to watch and it's a game/matchup the NHL should be marketing. but, unfortunately, it was on a wednesday night so versus can't carry it :( plus, malkin and semin are pretty good too. also, tomas fleischmann is finally breaking out in the NHL. aside from the 15 goals (i think), he just looks excellent with the puck and has all year long. the goal against the oilers the other night was terrific. he's a very slick stickhandler.
  4. bobby ryan's hat trick goal against the kings was pretty sick the other night. everyone should watch that. he made harrold look like an idiot. also, give steve mason the vezina or something.
  5. re: ASG discussion earlier. i used to really like it, but watching it on versus sucks. the skills competition sucks, the location sucks, everything about it sucks. one year the sound even sucked (or maybe the fans were dead -- it was in dallas so this is distinctly possible) on versus so it sounded boring. i still watch the skills comp, but only after i record it so i can weed through most of it. i don't like the other all-star games either. i like the home run derby, though.
  6. lol being able to hear Burish on the mic by the boards there.
  7. KILLER goal there with a second left on the clock. Byfuglien makes it 4-1. Flames look sloppy and undisciplined.
  8. That was the right call. It's a flimsy rule and I don't like it, but his stick was in the midsection. Great save by Kipper before the break there. Well yea it was "hooking" but how often do you see something as puny as that be called hooking? Fraser always does this... and I know I complain about refs... but I truly... TRULY... hate Kerry Fraser. Pretty much every game, actually. KFraser will do something really stupid in this game, but that wasn't it.

  10. What a pretty play.. 1-0, Havlat squeaked it by. Good start for the Hawks.
  11. I haven't been able to watch any of it. I don't care too much about his play in one game though. Like you said, only one game. Russia is probably the second best team in the tournament anyway, so meh. How did Teubert look? I'm far more intrigued by him than I am by Hickey.
  12. Kings prospects captaining Canada and Sweden. Awesome. Also, amazing what losing/gaining Jason Labarbera will do to a team's chances in the shootout...
  13. Alex Semin vs. Marc Staal
  14. It's pretty interesting with the Hawks. They're a young team, but they have some gawdy contracts. A lot of that is cleared up with Havlat and Khabi moving out, but Toews and Kane and even Keith are gonna need to get paid too. Kind of an interesting situation there. Cap is probably heading down either this year or next, too. So Sharp, despite having a contract, could be the odd man out. The Huet/Campbell signings kind of hamstrung the Hawks for the future. If they could ditch Huet and still keep a legit number 1 (how good is Niemi?), that would be the best solution, but probably the most unlikely as well. Niemi is awesome, I've been looking forward to him since he played in Finland (my old roomate was a huge fan of his in Helsinki)... and he's shown great promise in Rockford. However, Crawford has stepped up when Niemi has cooled off a bit. What about versteeg? i think he's going to be on the team, but i'm still curious to see if his production is going to keep up.
  15. Alex Semin just had the best fight of the year with Marc Staal. Watch it when you get the chance.
  16. fight mclean, sure. don't jump him. that's the dirty part. it's embarassing to me, and i'm usually a bit of a crosby apologist.
  17. Crosby jumped him...his nose cut when he went to the ice. I don't think Crosby really "killed" him. McLean took it in stride though. He said afterwards, "I've been in a few pretty poor fights in my day, so that just goes into another one of those."

  19. I am stunned that Cyno hasn't posted about Crosby's "fight" with Brett McLean earlier today. He must be at work or something. That was a pretty crappy move by Crosby.
  20. d wasn't great, but huet was really bad. usually i'm pretty lenient toward goalies, but he was not good at all. hawks don't need an enforcer, they need some grit in their top 6. kane cross-checking people in the throat isn't the answer to that problem.
  21. Boston Montreal would be better. I like watching the Canadian teams and hope they do well, but I think you have to have an American team involved. You could always do two, one on New Years and one on Super Bowl Saturday. Boston/Montreal in Montreal would be amazing.
  22. Lucic is probably my favorite player off of the Kings and Caps (who I've watched a ton since the day they fired Hanlon last year). He is a pretty great combination of skill and strength/toughness. Fun player to watch.
  23. That's because they're not. Oh my bad...Well then I heard wrong on ESPN...maybe it was at home or something They're going for a 9 game winning streak this week. You could have just said that instead of what you said and it would be have been nicer In the same vein, it's really not that difficult to do a 30-second check on ESPN to see if the information you post is correct. It's not anyone else's responsibility to fact check you. So delete my post, tell me I'm wrong and tell me the correct number, but don't purposely say something like that just to try to make me look like an idiot i don't think he can delete the post, and ultimately he did exactly what you're asking him to do now.
  24. he's really good, but the jackets were excellent in front of him tonight. i can only remember one scoring chance against mason all night. still. 4 shutouts 20 games or so into his nhl career is pretty outstanding.
