    Then why have it at all? To give HOF members a chance to include guys who might not have gotten a fair shake from writers. Like, say, RON SANTO?

    The thing that's absolutely inexcusable about this is that if he dropped dead two weeks before the next Committee vote, he'd get in overwhelmingly. The whole HOF process just pisses me off. It's a joke that people like Santo and Jim Rice are not in and people like Bill Freakin' Mazeroski are in.

    Also of note: Brady Quinn outbenched his left tackle, Ryan Harris, whose only job last year was, oh, protecting the guy's blind side. If any one thing can explain why Notre Dame should probably never have started the season ranked top 5 to begin with, that does.

    They were talking about Walker on NFL network earlier as someone who disappointed everyone, and probably slipped to day two of the draft. His vertical was good, but he didn't impress anyone in much else. Yeah, and Todd McShay mentioned a "fumbling problem", too. Of course, DW fumbled exactly nine times in three seasons at ND, and only lost six of them. I frequent a Notre Dame fan board and I'm surprised they haven't mentioned this yet - they'll usually post just about anything noteworthy said about an ND player in the media.

    The Irish jump back into the AP poll at 22 (although still behind Marquette who they just beat), and move to 17 in the coaches'. The last time ND was ranked this high was in December of 2002, where they went from unranked to No. 10 after a wonderful week in which they beat three top 10 teams (Marquette, then-defending champ Maryland, and Texas) in a seven-day span. Those were the days...

    I believe you can only have one entry per Yahoo ID, but if you have more than one e-mail address you can probably create a different Yahoo ID for each of them. There are other contests besides Yahoo; I believe ESPN, CBS Sportsline, and Sporting News have similar contests (although I don't think you can register for any of those yet), and you can always have different brackets in different contests. It says each person can have 5 brackets on yahoo. Or, you could be like me, have one bracket, and win almost every group you join! :D (Ironically, of all the groups and pools I joined last year, the only two I didn't win were NSBB's Yahoo and Facebook pools.)

    If Illinois is as bad as the UI fans on this board are saying, I'd love that matchup. However, I'd prefer ND to play its way to a higher seed - a couple BE tourney wins might get them up to 4.

    Darius Walker ran a 4.57 40 (lower than projected) and pulled off a ridiculous 40.5-inch vertical leap. He probably cemented himself as a first-day pick and might even sneak into the 2nd round.

    Monday is my only TV night of the week. It used to be How I Met Your Mother, The Class and Studio 60, but with the last of those probably gone (replaced by the Black Donnellys tonight), it's just a one-hour thing. Although if I weren't busy on Thursdays, I would catch Smallville.

    Yeah, Oswalt/Carp is one of the great fantasy debates this year. I also have only one true closer (Wagner), although Otsuka was Texas's closer last year, so hopefully Gagne isn't healthy enough to take his spot.

    Ball State lost again 61-51 to Eastern Michigan. Ball State will lose 20 games this season, so much for Ronny Thompson.

    And JaMarcus Russell is a sure thing? Close to one, but look towards South Bend for another Russell is far from a sure thing. The hype machine really started rolling around him because of one game - the Sugar Bowl against a bad (sorry Andy but it's true) Notre Dame defense. He decided to go pro because the media was going crazy over his performance. Personally, I think Brady Quinn is the better QB and will be the better QB but I'm not sure if he's worth the number 1 pick. Sorry? Hell, I've been making the same argument ever since this whole JaMarcus crap started - anyone who says they saw anything but a QB who could simply loft the ball and watch his receivers go get it against that joke of a defense in the Sugar Bowl is lying to you. And he didn't even do that all that well. (21/34, 2 TDs, 1 INT) I think it's a borderline catastrophic idea to pick JaMarcus high.

    I'm not sure how on God's green earth a rational person with even a rudimentary understanding of stats can look at Ron Santo's career and not see a Hall of Fame induction. I doubt he gets in as well.
