  1. Ugh, Eric Cooper in this series, he'll be screwing the Cubs behind the plate tomorrow
  2. I've always wondered, what is the significance of the numbers next to the team names on the scoreboard? It's obviously not the starting pitchers' numbers, as it is for the Cubs' notation.
  3. I almost wish I gave a crap about the Bears so I could enjoy this stuff.
  4. Murton should hit 2nd if he's playing. If he's not, I can understand Jacque there, but I'd prefer DeRosa, with Jacque hitting 7th. Don't mess with what works though, I guess, and our offense was good this weekend.
  5. Ironically, I refused to draft Carpenter for three straight years because I was so sure he'd get injured again or come back to earth, and the one year I relent and pick him, this happens. Only in one of my five leagues, but still.
  6. Yeah, right now, we're even in the "junk heap pitchers inexplicably playing well" department, so we can't complain too much. Yet.
  7. First transaction: I'm dropping Ramon Hernandez from group D, picking up Brian McCann.
  8. I went to 3 Cubs/Brewers games at Wrigley in 2005 and one last year (pre-trade). In those games, I believe Carlos Lee was 56-for-57, with a 3.450 OPS, and 52 homers. I may be a little off though.
  9. Cliff Floyd's playing very very well in the early going of the season. I like Murton as much as anyone, but I have no issues with Floyd playing if he keeps playing like this.
  10. Ernie Banks is making a comeback? WHER!? Banks: .274/.330/.500 (avg/obp/slg) Sammy: .274/.345/.537 ( " " ) Banks: 512 HR Sammy: 589 HR Sosa edges Banks..not by much..but he does. Banks - played in the deadball era. Sammy - didnt. EQA adjusts for era and ballpark, etc. banks: .288 sosa: .294 [turd in the punch bowl] Does it adjust for STEROIDS?!?!?!? [/turd in the punch bowl]
  11. FWIW, Sosa was the only one of the 5 batters to face Papelbon and not totally embarrass himself - fouled off a fastball, then popped up to second. The others just looked plain stupid.
  12. I'm sure he'd make a very good starter. But he could potentially become one of the best closers in HISTORY. I don't see him having the same ceiling as a starter.
  13. Someone always has to be the turd in everyone else's punch bowl
  14. Nothing else needs to be said. Geez.
  15. Petition to make this the Sammy Update Thread? Sammy's 0-2 today with a long flyout (thought it was gone, but caught the end of the bat) and a K. He's leading off the 7th.
  16. fixed you think the blues are ugly, did anyone see the dreadful camo with tan pants the padres wore on saturday night They are ugly to look at, but I respect why they are wearing them. My take on our unis is that the greys are about as drab as can be. I'd like to see a sleeveless variety to add some color to our roads. Also, bring back the navy blues! If the Cubs wear sleeveless jerseys, ever, I will stop following them. Not really, but let's just not do that.
  17. Ridiculous. "Zero mound presence"? "Act"? As if anyone would act like that on the mound artificially. Zambrano's comments were a little odd and not very polite, but Estrada can stick it as far as I'm concerned.
  18. Well, that's that. Blown opportunity on this night.
  19. Ben Gordon just popped out of a screen with 6 on the shot clock, pulled up and drained a 20-footer. When it comes down to it, he might be the only player in the entire league that can get away with taking shots like that.
  20. Big mistake by Mo-Pete - it looked like the Bulls were going to mail in this game, but I think they're going to turn it to fourth gear now.
  21. Whoa, what just happened??!?!?! Mo-Pete's been tossed out of the game for a flagrant, Calderon just got called for a T, both on Hinrich's getting fouled on a layup. It didn't look intentional (or as I like to call it, it didn't look like a Posey shot).
  22. Big Ben, Tyrus and Noc (with a 5 minutes-per-half PT rule) are back tonight, with Ben sporting the fro. Unfortunately the Raps are draining everything in sight.
  23. I would pick Cedeno. He should have been charged with that error too. No way are you going to turn a DP in that situation. Get atleast that out at 2b. Cedeno is proving that he is not a clutch player. I don't think he was trying to turn a DP, I think he was trying to not get his leg broken. He would have made the play and not broken his leg if he was clutch. Or a gamer. Or a 2 foot 3 white guy.
  24. After we win tonight... (And we will) We will be one game up, with the tiebreaker, with 4 games to go. And those 4 games are against New York, Charlotte, Washington and New Jersey. Time to author our signature on this playoff race. BTW...remember the last time the Bulls were the No. 2 seed in the East? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/features/si_nbafinals/main/1998_lg.jpg
  25. Haha, I love when Bob takes veiled shots at the umps
