I think ND is probably mad that 1) Jones completely deserted them. It's not that he transferred, he just left without a word and held up the team before a game. 2) NIU was probably guilty of tampering. The fact that he was not known to have been transferring on Friday afternoon (even to the team or the university), and then suddenly he enrolls at NIU Friday night? They almost certainly contacted him before he declared his inent to transfer, which is against the rules. At the same time, Jones is a young kid. ND is a university and should know better than to fire back at a kid. Just be the bigger party in this ND and let him go to NIU, don't make it more messy then he already made it. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they are going to do that. But Novak is 90% likely to retire after this year. So why on earth would he tamper with Jones when he's not even going to coach him? And yeah, I realize NIU is out of scholarships this year. But don't you think it's weird that ND doesn't even put NIU on that list? They know he's at NIU. Yeah, Jones probably didn't do this in the best way. But ND has to be guilty of handling this in just as bad of a way, if not worse. Why the eff are they guilty of anything? Jones is the one that randomly zipped out of school, presumably after hearing that Clausen had been No. 1 on the depth chart entering summer practice pre-elbow procedure (from the Mr. Obvious report - I suppose Jones is the only one that didn't know that the procedure is the only reason there was a competition in the first place). All Notre Dame did was watch him skip out. I fail to see what they did wrong other than recruit this dope in the 1st place.

He was already enrolled at the school when he left the team bus, and probably went to at least 2 practices while already enrolled at NIU. There is definitely something fishy here.

What the media is not reporting is that NIU has no scholarships available. The Huskies couldn't give him one if they wanted to, so letting him out or not is pretty much a nonissue. But the media loves Notre Dame, don't let facts and omissions persuade you otherwise.

I know this is way off and unlikely, but I want no part of any WS07 logo if the Cubs freeze hell over and win. I don't like that new development in uniforms.

I was following it on Gamecast in the library (MLB TV wasn't working for me that day for some reason, making me all the more frustrated/furious). I saw the score of this game in the bottom of the 8th in the news studio here (it's really hard to believe I've been here that long) and reached new levels of pissed off that we wasted such a ridiculously good game from Prior. It might be the best one he's ever pitched.
