  1. That was against St Louis in extra innings. (In STL) Not that I doubt you, but do you remember which game it was? All I remember is still up relatively late watching the game, which I believe went into extras. It was July 24th, 2005. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SLN/SLN200507240.shtml
  2. I don't remember what bowls get which Big Ten finisher, after the Rose Bowl, but PSU is going to have a tough time finishing higher than 3rd. I'd bet it comes down to Iowa/OSU with PSU 3rd. MSU 4th? Wisconsin? Hard to say. The Big Ten schools have played such crappy out of conference schedules that it's hard to know how good any of them are. It used to go Rose - Capital One - Outback - Alamo, but I don't know if that's true anymore That sounds correct. The Gator Bowl becomes a Big Ten bowl starting next year though, I believe.
  3. I'd rather play Miami. The media would arbitrarily decide that that didn't count as a big game if we beat Boise State, and Miami would be an awesome matchup for historical purposes to harken back to the old rivalry.
  4. Why on Earth would the Fiesta Bowl pick Boise State over Miami? If my understanding is correct, the Fiesta gets to pick before the Sugar does. Less travel distance for Boise fans than Miami fans? I still have to think they'd get more Miami fans out there than Boise.
  5. Why on Earth would the Fiesta Bowl pick Boise State over Miami? If my understanding is correct, the Fiesta gets to pick before the Sugar does.
  6. Everything I'm about to say is unlikely, but consider this: If Tennessee wins out (including current #2 ranked Alabama and fringe top-25 South Carolina), does that get Berry at least an invite? Tennessee very well could be ranked (albeit low) at that point and Berry likely would have played very well for us to win those games. There would also be quite a bit of talk about Tennessee unseating Alabama. I don't know, but it's a thought. Maybe. I don't see why not if Berry plas a major role. He's the best defensive player in the nation, and if he several stand out plays against Alabama and SC then its possible. Just very unlikely :-). It's sad that a player has to be on a top 25 (preferably top 15+) team to be in a serious Heisman race. Berry could have fantastic games and standout plays, but the offense does nothing and the team finishes the year 6-6 and he'd never get any Heisman consideration. But if he plays the exact same way and the offense is good enough to get us to 8-4 or 9-3, then he might get consideration. The Heisman has fast lost meaning for me and many others for that basic reason. Guys like Jason White and Troy Smith basically win the Heisman because they're a very good player that happens to be on an outstanding team.
  7. Best has been completely bottled up against the only two good defenses he's played against though. Total of 30 carries for 102 and 4 catches for 19 yards with 0 touchdowns against Oregon and USC. I didn't realize his numbers were so low in those two games. Even still, two games shouldn't completely eliminate a player from Heisman consideration or talk. Maybe it makes him a darkhorse, but he's basically out of it now, it seems. He's still carrying for 6.5 yards per carry this year, so he's really been impressive in his other 4 games. Maryland, Eastern Washington, Minnesota. Cal's only played 5 games and those are the other 3.
  8. He doesn't. His only two road games remaining will both be on the ABC/ESPN family.
  9. Other guys have too much ground to make up and play on teams that won't get as much media attention. I don't really see McCoy or Tebow having that defining game based on the schedule ahead. But even if they do, its going to be hard to argue that if one of them wins it their career didn't have a huge impact on winning it this season. I may be dense, but I just don't get it. Who are these "other guys" that have too much ground to make up and don't get media attention? I mean, if Clausen wins, it's not going to be based on his performance in 2007 as a true freshman on a terrible team a few months after elbow surgery. It's going to be b/c he led a decent/good team to an 11-win season (I can't see him winning it unless ND wins out) including several 4th quarter come-from-behind Ws and a big game against USC. Guys who have too much ground to make up or don't get enough media attention would probably include Eric Berry, A.J. Green, Jonathan Dwyer, Tony Pike and Jahvid Best. Best was getting all sorts of Heisman attention until Cal laid back to back eggs against Oregon and USC. Tony Pike is currently 3rd in CBS Sports's Heisman poll, so he's getting a look, and will continue to if Cincy keeps winning.
  10. 07 - that was also four days before Ramirez's walk-off vs Milwaukee. And it was also the game where a fan tried to run at Howry and got pile-drived by security.
  11. Oh yeah, I know why Woodson won it and why Berry won't be considered. I'm just saying if it was purely a "best player in the game" award, then Berry would at least be invited. But, Tennessee's 7-5 record (at best) coupled with Lane not playing him two ways (even though Woodson's two-way status was overrated in 97) will keep him from getting the invite. If Tennessee can pull off the upset of Bama (largely due to big plays by Berry) and then wins out, maybe he gets some consideration. And yes, Peyton should have won it that year. I remember reading a Sports Illustrated article in 1999 showing how wildly better Champ Bailey's stats at UGA were than Woodson's 1997 numbers and becoming bewildered how Woodson could win it but Bailey didn't even place top 10 in the voting.
  12. http://espn.go.com/college-football/heisman09/index He's definatly a candidate, and will probably be asked to attend NY assuming he doesn't get hurt. I don't think he is going to have a chance to win unless he really lights up USC. This is pretty much his only statement game that he has left on his schedule to win over voters, where others will have bigger games on schedule come the end of the regular season. Tebow isn't playing another team likely to be ranked at the end of the year until the SEC title game, and neither is McCoy until the Big 12 title game (after this week) - assuming they both make it. ND's schedule, meanwhile, is quietly not as bad as it appeared to be at the beginning of the year. Pitt appears to be the Big East favorite (inasmuch as that means a whole lot), while UConn and Stanford have shots at being 8-win teams. Navy is solid as usual. Again but as far as making a statement with Heisman voters none of them are going to be looking as much at him especially if ND lose this week. While it shouldn't work this way, this year's Heisman is going to come down more to career performance than anything that happens throughout the season. His numbers will back it up and he is a really good QB, but he is going to have too much ground to make up with no one to do it against. Oh, I agree that Jimmy has virtually no chance if we don't beat USC. I was just pointing out that if he did, his remaining schedule after that really isn't any worse than Tebow's or McCoy's - at least until December.

ETA: I'm a moron and forgot about Cincinnati in the Big East. I knew I was forgetting someone.
  14. Yeah, I know - hence my 'right now' qualifier. I haven't seen a lot of Berry, but if he's half as good as he's made out to be he must be a hell of a player.
  15. Maybe, just maybe a non QB can win the award this year? Eric Berry. :beg: Not happening. Tebow, Jimmy and McCoy are pretty much locked in as the top 3 right now in some order.
  16. I think there is one, but I don't think it's really called anymore.
  17. I might be crazy, but I'm as amped for this one as I've ever been for a USC game, except maybe 05 - and then only because I had tickets to it. If Jimmy can pull off this miracle it'll be hard for him not to be the Heisman front-runner.
  18. Jake Delhomme locks up the game with a first down run on a naked bootleg on 3rd and 8! Finally, one in the W column.
  19. Good job Buffalo. You managed to lose to a 2/17 quarterback.
  20. The Browns are going to win. Good Lord.
  21. Anderson now 2/17 and Cleveland goes 3 and out once again. ETA: Bills fumble the punt and Cleveland recovers at Buffalo 16.
  22. TD Jonathan Stewart! Carolina has the lead. And the 2-pointer makes it 20-17.
  23. Punt hits Skins' returner and Carolina recovers. Huge opportunity to go ahead, down 17-12.
  24. 2/15 now.
  25. 2/13, a pick for Derek Anderson.
