  1. I was listening on the radio, but Pat made it sound like Castro could have caught Alcantara's throw, though it was a little high.
  2. Just for the love of God beat Michigan. Everything else is pretty much negotiable.
  3. The point Kyle's making by bringing up Beane is that the A's were in just as bad a position as we were after 2011 - at least on paper - and since then the A's have won two straight AL West titles and are currently the best team in baseball by a lot, while we're having the worst 3-year stretch in the history of the franchise.
  4. It's not Theo's fault the MLB changed their CBA to so obviously reward tanking and discourage 80-win seasons, and I sort of give him a pass for having us suck in 2012-13 because the odds were fairly long on us competing. It does irk me that we're still so damn bad this year because I don't think we needed to be, and it irks me that we've handed out one major free-agent contract under Theo and it was to one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball right now. I'm far from warming up to 'The Plan', but I can see it coming together, and that is, in itself, kind of exciting. That being said, if the Astros hadn't [expletive] stupidly passed on Kris Bryant, or if they'd taken someone else and then we'd taken Appel last June, I feel like things would look a lot different right now, both to us and to outsiders. All due credit for taking Bryant and not someone else when he was there, but to some extent it was kind of dumb luck that Houston didn't take him first.
  5. Saying that makes you as dumb as the people who rank Eli and Ben highly because of the rings. I just realized/remembered that Kaepernick didn't play in 2011, so if that's what you were referring to by saying I'm stupid, I totally agree.
  6. Kaepernick at 13 is patently absurd as well. He has a wart or two but for crying out loud the dude's made the NFC title game 3 straight years.
  7. Ken Rosenthal says the Cubs should trade for David Price:
  8. Second-half tank mode is fully engaged.
  9. All we need to do now is get more than one of them and we'll be golden.
  10. they definitely said that on csn. i saw it myself. Yes, I did a double take. They're bringing him up. Not unprecedented I suppose (Leake) but unexpected to me.
  11. I think general consensus would be yes, though that doesn't mean he's actually likely to get traded.
  12. Rizzo HR swing makes me happy. And I totally didn't realize he was so close to the NL HR lead.
  13. Yeah, moving positions at this point caught me off guard. I do kinda think we'll see him in September or even sooner now. I doubt the service time is as important as it is with Bryant since Javy's not the virtual lock to be somewhere between an above average hitter to MVP caliber and is more likely to talk extension I would think. Also, he'll need to go through a period of striking out 40% of the time, so it would be nice to get that over with. Most important part to me. If the Cubs maintain hope of contending next year, barring a big trade Baez probably needs to be good to make it happen. Might as well burn his traditional terrible first 100 or so PAs now.
  14. Oh God the Neifi saved us posts used to be hysterical.
  15. Drop Chris Davis Add Paul Goldschmidt
  16. I was at Wrigley for Andres Blanco's only Cubs home run, so that was fun.
  17. I think we might still see some one-team careers, but I'd be surprised if any of them lasted 20 years. So few players last that long to begin with, let alone on one team. Trout is probably the only one that might fit the bill right now.
  18. The only reason I remember Kieschnick is I believe Corey Patterson took him yard in the 16th or something of a 2003 (?) game in Milwaukee to win.
  19. Rizzo's dad looks exactly like him.
  20. [expletive] those teams underachieved. Ugh I know what you actually mean, but it's worth pointing out that team won 97 games and somehow actually underperformed their Pythagorean, so it definitely didn't underachieve.
  21. Damn it. Should be 10-8. Would be 10-9 if Baker had been just a little less quick to that first pitch.
  22. Uh, they said those bullpens will still be moved under the bleachers they just won't widen the doors as previously proposed. Well, criticism recanted then. I have MLBTV, but won't deal with the delay if I don't have to. Most of the time MLB Network picks up the Cubs feed.
  23. I voted for Sale, I thought he was the best of the five candidates.
