  1. Illinois wasn't ranked in the CFP rankings last week, so they moved up.
  2. I don't think it will ultimately hold up, but this week's rankings put Boise State into position to get the #4 seed and first-round bye. Would be hilarious if the G5 gets a bye after all these years of crapping on them. What's even more wild is that if Army were to beat ranked ND and Tulane in the next few weeks and get to 12-0, there's a nonzero chance the Big 12 could be left out of the playoff entirely. Army and Boise could be automatic bids 4 and 5.
  3. Ron isn't winning any awards, but he has tremendous rapport with Pat and is a perfectly fine color guy. Really glad this booth is staying together.

  5. It looks like it'll be the Texas vs A&M winner against Alabama, from what I was seeing last night Bama would win the "conference opponent SOS" tiebreaker in the current logjam. I suspect Bama is probably safe if they were to lose an SEC CG (Texas would be too), but it depends on who else is in the pool. The committee chairman said teams won't be "unduly" hit for losing a title game, though that could mean almost anything.
  6. Also ND had the coolest fake punt ever called back by some arcane formation rule and I'm still mad about it
  7. The SEC is determined to somehow produce eight 10-2 teams
  8. I am perplexed at what the committee did with the rankings this week. There's no reason at all to have Miami ahead of the 3 SEC teams behind them other than 1 loss vs 2. They don't have better wins than any of those 3 or a better loss. Frankly I was surprised Notre Dame stayed ahead of them as I expected at least 2 to remain ahead. Then, Georgia is rated behind both Bama and Ole Miss despite playing a more difficult schedule than either. OK fine, they lost head to head so that's fair. But then later in the same ranking, South Carolina is directly ahead of LSU even though they lost a head to head game. This will all work itself out, which is why weekly rankings are stupid, but I'm just confused.

  11. I root for a team owned by David Tepper and by God I'm not going to let them out of this discussion
  12. I guess that's technically what happened. In practice he just reversed his original opt out decision and kept the contract he was already on.
  13. A couple times a decade there are 14 Saturdays from Labor Day weekend to Thanksgiving weekend, ergo the 2 bye weeks.
  14. Thom Brennaman is calling the Syracuse/BC game this weekend, and BC's starting quarterback is named Castellanos. Do with that information what you will
  15. As I have in the past, I will update these with the CFP committee rankings as soon as I can once they are revealed Tuesday and each Tuesday going forward. Top 25 games Maryland at (1) Oregon (7 pm, BTN) Purdue at (2) Ohio State (12 pm, FOX) (3) Georgia at (16) Ole Miss (3:30 pm, ABC) (4) Miami at Georgia Tech (12 pm, ESPN) Florida at (5) Texas (12 pm, ABC) Washington at (6) Penn State (8 pm, Peacock) Mississippi State at (7) Tennessee (7 pm, ESPN) Michigan at (8) Indiana (3:30 pm, CBS) (9) BYU at Utah (10:15 pm, ESPN) Florida State at (10) Notre Dame (7:30 pm, NBC) (11) Alabama at (15) LSU (7:30 pm, ABC) Nevada at (12) Boise State (8 pm, FOX) (17) Iowa State at Kansas - in Kansas City (3:30 pm, FS1) Virginia at (18) Pittsburgh (8 pm, ACC Network) (20) Colorado at Texas Tech (4 pm, FOX) Utah State at (21) Washington State (10:30 pm, CW) (23) Clemson at Virginia Tech (3:30 pm, ESPN) Oklahoma at (24) Missouri (7:45 pm, SEC Network) (25) Army at North Texas (3:30 pm, ESPN2) Other nationally available games Tuesday Bowling Green at Central Michigan (7:30 pm, ESPN2) Miami (OH) at Ball State (8 pm, ESPN) Wednesday Northern Illinois at Western Michigan (7 pm, ESPN2) Ohio at Kent State (7 pm, ESPNU) Thursday Appalachian State at Coastal Carolina (8 pm, ESPN) Florida Atlantic at East Carolina (8 pm, ESPN2) Friday California at Wake Forest (8 pm, ACC Network) Iowa at UCLA (9 pm, FOX) Rice at Memphis (9 pm, ESPN2) New Mexico at San Diego State (10:30 pm, FS1) Saturday TV Minnesota at Rutgers (12 pm, NBC) Syracuse at Boston College (12 pm, CW) Navy at South Florida (12 pm, ESPN2) West Virginia at Cincinnati (12 pm, FS1) Texas State at UL Monroe (12 pm, ESPNU) Liberty at Middle Tennessee (1 pm, CBSSN) San Jose State at Oregon State (3:30 pm, CW) Duke at NC State (3:30 pm, ACC Network) Temple at Tulane (4 pm, ESPNU) South Carolina at Vanderbilt (4:15 pm, SEC Network) Jacksonville State at Louisiana Tech (4:30 pm, CBSSN) UCF at Arizona State (7 pm, ESPN2) Oklahoma State at TCU (7 pm, FS1) UNLV at Hawaii (9 pm, CBSSN) Fresno State at Air Force (9:45 pm, FS1) Saturday Streaming (all ESPN+) UConn at UAB (2:30 pm) Marshall at Southern Miss (3 pm) Georgia State at James Madison (3:30 pm) Kennesaw State at UTEP (4 pm) Arkansas State at UL Lafayette (5 pm) Western Kentucky at New Mexico State (6 pm)
  16. Also, IU is probably gonna be the most popular November undefeated team in recent history over the next 2 weeks (unless they lose next week that is)
  17. If BYU wins the Big 12 it'll be a one bid league. It might be anyway. Louisville pantsing Clemson was interesting. SMU seems like the clear class of the ACC, and that conference might also get one bid.
  18. PSU's best win just lost to Minnesota at home, in a related story
  19. The same thing is happening in the ACC. Clemson, Miami, Pitt and SMU are all unbeaten in conference games. Miami plays none of the other 3. SMU and Clemson only play Pitt.
  20. I saw that a lot of metrics have that game as basically a coin flip. Classic trap game.
  21. A "dungeon of darkness," even
  22. 23. Texas A&M is going to the SEC title game unless something goes seriously haywire in November. I guess it really is very difficult to win in College Station. (Also, thank God they didn't discover Marcel Reed sooner. Weigman is good but that extra dimension is scary.)
  24. Notre Dame was so good at the "pick up the ball when Navy drops it for no reason" defense that it makes me wonder why everyone else Navy played didn't try it
