  3. ND opened as 5 point favorites, closed at 6.5. Win by 7. Vegas always knows
  4. Refs employed by a conference make a bad call that benefits team the conference stands to make playoff money off of. Stunning.
  5. I think I agree but man I do not envy the replay official. That might have been the first replay I've ever seen where I had absolutely no opinion on what the correct ruling should've been.
  6. Mustache man is back with more bad news
  7. Totally normal sport we have.
  8. I have no quarrels with your post, really, but I quoted this part just to note that this passage illustrates why it was a bad idea to sink a bunch of resources into a guy like Hector Neris, whose underlying numbers last season were screaming that a large regression was coming. I also just looked up his Astros numbers since he signed there and funnily enough he has a worse ERA than he did in Chicago (in only 13 1/3 innings, granted) despite a far better WHIP. Go figure.
  9. I don't care for the use of 'luck' when discussing Pythag records and BABIP and the like. Most of the time, one-run wins, in the moment, are earned. That said, it's not a sustainable strategy - you wouldn't go out of your way to try to build a team to win the most one-run games or have the highest BABIP, because such a plan almost certainly wouldn't work. You don't see teams consistently lead baseball in those statistics because it's borderline impossible to do repeatedly.
  10. First QB in the league with 300+ and 3 TD in a game. First time since Bryce Young was drafted that Carolina led a football game at the snap of the ball in the 4th quarter. (Both their wins last year were on last second FGs.) All the truthers trying to tell us we were overreacting and Stroud would've been just as bad with our roster were stupidly wrong and I knew it the entire time. I'm not very smart (evidence - I wanted to draft him in the first place) but sometimes I get one right and it was clear this dude was toast almost immediately.

  12. In case any ND fan was clinging to the hope that NIU was some kind of elite MAC school, they lost to Buffalo in overtime in their first game since the disaster 2 weeks ago.
  13. Seems to be a pattern in that conference
  14. He did make a pretty freakin' great throw off his back foot with a rusher bearing down on him, but just because he cosplays as Mahomes sometimes doesn't mean announcers need to go insane with the comparisons.
  15. Mooney wrote about that on The Athletic. Easily my favorite thing Counsell has done or said in 10 months as manager.
  16. Had no idea the pitch was so fast, but cool milestone for Happ:
  17. Zobrist last played in MLB with the Cubs, it's not really necessary. Matt Adams' MLB career did not end with STL.

    NFL Week 2

What did he say? He declined comment on whether Tepper was involved. Schefter (I know, but still) reported that Canales and the front office made the call, not Tepper. I'm inclined to believe this was a coach/FO decision; Bryce was playing such pathetic football (he faced the lowest pressure rate of any QB in week 2 and still threw for 84 yards) they were going to lose the locker room if they kept running him out there. And while Tepper is a chode, he seems to be making more of an effort to stay in the background, which he should have done 3 disastrous decisions ago, but whatever. From a fan perspective it's dumb that they're probably going to play themselves out of the #1 pick through Dalton's competence, but I'm not the guys busting my ass running routes with no reasonable hope of getting an accurate pass from the quarterback.
  19. He has no no-trade provision. If he opts in he can be traded and the opt-in for 2026 goes with him to wherever he'd end up.

    NFL Week 2

Funny (not funny) story: The two local games here yesterday were those 2 starring and winning in separate games, then the Sunday Night game was the guy we passed over for Bryce, who is already elite, versus the guy we traded away to get him (admittedly, that hasn't worked out that well yet). It's like my favorite team's incompetence is a gift and every team gets their chance to benefit from it.

    NFL Week 2

Very on brand for this franchise, don't bench Bryce Young when he sucked ass and we didn't have our own #1 pick but bench him when the most likely scenario is that they continue to suck, just not enough to get the #1 pick.

He would have last year if we hadn't, you know, become the first horsefeathers team in the history of the NFL to trade away the #1 overall pick a year ahead of time.

    NFL Week 2

Carolina's first first down today came with 4 minutes left in the first half. Bryce Young then threw an interception on the next play. At that point in the game he was 5/7 for 12 yards with that pick. No digits missing. Twelve.
  25. Every MAC team plays paycheck games, but sometimes (and for whatever reason it feels like Kent State is often in this group) their schools can really go overboard. Don't know what on field benefit there can be for teams to get repeatedly smashed like that. Related, Ball State lost 62-0 to Miami, but at least their only other paycheck game is Vanderbilt. Hopefully that one won't be too terrible.
