  1. Also ND had the coolest fake punt ever called back by some arcane formation rule and I'm still mad about it
  2. The SEC is determined to somehow produce eight 10-2 teams
  3. I am perplexed at what the committee did with the rankings this week. There's no reason at all to have Miami ahead of the 3 SEC teams behind them other than 1 loss vs 2. They don't have better wins than any of those 3 or a better loss. Frankly I was surprised Notre Dame stayed ahead of them as I expected at least 2 to remain ahead. Then, Georgia is rated behind both Bama and Ole Miss despite playing a more difficult schedule than either. OK fine, they lost head to head so that's fair. But then later in the same ranking, South Carolina is directly ahead of LSU even though they lost a head to head game. This will all work itself out, which is why weekly rankings are stupid, but I'm just confused.

  6. I root for a team owned by David Tepper and by God I'm not going to let them out of this discussion
  7. I guess that's technically what happened. In practice he just reversed his original opt out decision and kept the contract he was already on.
  8. A couple times a decade there are 14 Saturdays from Labor Day weekend to Thanksgiving weekend, ergo the 2 bye weeks.
  9. Thom Brennaman is calling the Syracuse/BC game this weekend, and BC's starting quarterback is named Castellanos. Do with that information what you will

  11. Also, IU is probably gonna be the most popular November undefeated team in recent history over the next 2 weeks (unless they lose next week that is)
  12. If BYU wins the Big 12 it'll be a one bid league. It might be anyway. Louisville pantsing Clemson was interesting. SMU seems like the clear class of the ACC, and that conference might also get one bid.
  13. PSU's best win just lost to Minnesota at home, in a related story
  14. The same thing is happening in the ACC. Clemson, Miami, Pitt and SMU are all unbeaten in conference games. Miami plays none of the other 3. SMU and Clemson only play Pitt.
  15. I saw that a lot of metrics have that game as basically a coin flip. Classic trap game.
  16. A "dungeon of darkness," even

  18. Texas A&M is going to the SEC title game unless something goes seriously haywire in November. I guess it really is very difficult to win in College Station. (Also, thank God they didn't discover Marcel Reed sooner. Weigman is good but that extra dimension is scary.)
  19. Notre Dame was so good at the "pick up the ball when Navy drops it for no reason" defense that it makes me wonder why everyone else Navy played didn't try it
  20. FOX used to have all their biggest games in prime time and ABC mopped the floor with them no matter what the game was. People are just conditioned to watch the ABC game at night. That's what led to the noon move to begin with, and it's been very smart for FOX.
  21. It's been at noon as often as it's been at night in recent years, and it was only ever at night before because ESPN had a piece of the B1G TV deal. Now they don't, so the game's always going to be at noon if FOX can get it. You may not like it, but FOX does great ratings at noon and they basically own the B1G now, so here we are.
  22. FOX puts the best game available to them at noon every week (they have to now that the B1G has signed deals and locked in timeslots with CBS and NBC as well), and this game was available to them. I know PSU fans especially hate crap like this because every big home game has to be a white-out, but this is what happens when you sell your soul to a conference and its TV overlords. If schools don't like it, don't cash the checks.
  23. There is room between 'politicking for my conference' and 'literally every at-large bid to the playoff should be a team from my conference.'
  24. As it stands, yes. There was some talk this offseason about a 14 team monstrosity that would've had at least 11 auto bids (3 each for the big two, 2 each for the middle two, and a G5) and guaranteed the big two the byes, as if they wouldn't get the byes anyway, but it didn't get anywhere. We're likely headed to something dumb like that, though.
