  1. Been a while since we had one of those 'the wind knocks down our flyballs but not the opponent's' games.
  2. In Chicago, out standards for pizza are a little bit high. In most of the country, Papa Johns and Domino's is all they have. How sad is that? If a town is big enough for a Papa Johns or a Domino's, they have some kind of mom and pop pizza in town that's better. I'm quite familiar with plenty of podunk central Illinois towns and their pizza availability. This is true. There are two mom and pop pizza places in my little 8,000-population town, plus a place 20 miles south that makes a legitimately pretty good deep dish.
  3. Federowicz showing off the muscle too, because why not
  4. Wonder if Soler swings at that 2nd pitch if not for the "Soler strike" call on the first.
  5. Grandpa Rossy gave that one a heck of a ride.
  6. I thoroughly enjoyed him repeatedly going to lefties to face Rizzo in the playoffs last year in the face of every statistical indicator that it was a stupid idea. I'd still rather have him face a lefty if I were the opposition. The problem is that Siegrist is pretty terrible vs. lefties Yeah, if you have a good lefty, definitely, but a lefty for the sake of a lefty will end badly against Rizzo.
  7. just realized not only did this not jinx someone, but it has reversed counter jinxed Schwarber, who was absent from this picture for some reason I suppose they could've put him in there, but they sure weren't taking out either of our 2 greatest dongsmiths, stupidly good Cy Young pitcher, or fresh shiny free agent pickup in favor of him.
  8. HR/FB ratios are not crazy predictive. Soler's has a decent chance of going up, especially when the wind blows out.
  9. In Matheny's years as manager he's benefited tremendously from the groundwork laid before him, but he is an awful on field manager. His apparent obstinance in the face of common sense is Dusty-esque. I thoroughly enjoyed him repeatedly going to lefties to face Rizzo in the playoffs last year in the face of every statistical indicator that it was a stupid idea.
  10. I thought that was SI's answer to falling circulation. Haven't they been doing regional covers for decade now? Almost every week has regional covers these days. This week's main cover is an exclusive interview with Vin Scully.
  11. If anything, I think my eye test overrates Bryant. I feel like he does pretty much everything great over at third.
  12. I'm not going to complain about that awesome cover, but it's pretty much exactly the same view as the one they ran last year with Bryant. Would think they'd have wanted a slightly different photo.
  13. To put it simply, if we lose a game to Pittsburgh this coming weekend because they BABIP us to death or if Javy makes some incredibly fluky error, we're still going to win the division. If we lose a game to them like that in the NLDS, we then have to beat them 3 out of 4. The playoffs are a crapshoot. Always.
  14. That was Bryce's swear jar for all the times he says "horsefeathers, I can't believe he's batting that corpse Zimmerman behind me again".
  15. That's a good question. I imagine there would be something on a foul pole at least the year following the title.
  16. Yeah next off day is Thursday. Coming off a high energy 4 game weekend series with an extra innings ending, they could use a little rest. The Padres aren't off Thursday, so it could be interesting trying to make the game up if it does not happen.
  17. I know a Mets fan who is a complete meatball and 100% believes that isn't true. Luckily, I don't know him well.
  18. I think he may be making fun of Dan Shaughnessy and his UConn women's basketball tweet.
  19. No, Lackey got one early. Haha, because of course Lackey is the one righty to get a hit today.
  20. I was going to say something to this effect. Man, Zobrist's power stroke is on point this week
  21. http://tandemadvisors.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Observations9.4.15RonBurgundy.jpg
  22. Yeah, it's a weird choice, but a great song. Ross's is probably the most apt. Think he'll switch to Queen's Who Wants to Live Forever later in the season? That would be cool, but he seems pretty attached to his current one. I think he's the only player that hasn't changed it once.
