  1. He lunges at every pitch. It's almost impressive that he's totally unable to pull the ball unless it's to second base
  2. Carlos Quentin. I will never in my life see a more weakly hit ball get out of a park, and I watch a lot of Wrigley wind games.
  3. Melky can't field his way out of a wet paper bag, so that makes total sense.
  4. If he actually felt crummy he wouldn't play. I'm guessing Joe just wants to ease him into things and sees this as an easy opportunity. And in the US Cellular bandbox, Contreras in left probably isn't much of an issue anyway.
  5. Sox fans are seriously the weirdest. Do you guys think Angels and Mets fans obsess over things like this and consider all the attention the other team gets a slight like this? I literally had no idea Wil Cordero ever had a domestic violence incident before reading this post (I was also 11 when the Sox signed him)
  6. your inability or refusal to distinguish between having someone on your favorite team and wanting them cut into tiny pieces and shot into space is maybe as infuriating as your willingness to post pictures of a woman as justification for "IT WASN'T THAT BAD OF A CHOKING." Seriously, your post should [expletive] off. THIS MAN DESERVES TO DIE! You are doing a spectacularly awful job of making your point.
  7. I put a longish thing on Facebook this morning basically saying all of this. Well put. I'd love a team of 25 Rizzos, but no one has that, so you hold your nose and deal as best you can with the fact that sometimes you have to root for people who are very likely pieces of horsefeathers.
  8. What I would love is for Joe to announce in the media that he's not designating a closer, we have several awesome relievers at the back end and he wants them all available in big spots depending on situation. Probably a pipe dream but that would be cool.
  9. It's a bit of a haul, but it seems like Torres is really the only one with any kind of chance to be a difference-maker at this point, and even that is far from a definite. It's an overpay, but I think an acceptable one. (Keeping in mind that I'm not a student of the prospects we have like most of this board is.)
  10. Szymborski's ridiculous projections on him going into the year that had be irrationally excited I really thought we won that trade. maybe we did, I don't know, but I was expecting him to not suck giant gaping [expletive] By shedding Castro's contract, we won the deal, but yes, he was supposed to be much better than he was.
  11. Yep, except Nightengale says its 4-1. Heyman's tweet says 3-1 and the SB Nation article citing Heyman says 3-1. Heyman's tweet says 3 identified guys and likely 1 more unidentified guy.
  12. Probably belongs here and not in Chapman thread, and nothing we didn't already suspect [tweet] [/tweet]
  13. Sochi wasn't nearly this bad in the lead-up. There were clear concerns about Russia's human rights and concerns about the absurd amount of money they were spending, but in terms of the stuff that directly affected the athletes it was relatively uneventful.
  14. It's nice that we got rid of Castro's contract but I'm super not thrilled that Adam Warren went from potentially effective swingman and nice piece to someone that's a throw-in in a trade for a reliever (albeit an awesome one) in 4 months.
  15. I'll swallow hard and accept Torres for just 2 months of Chapman, but I hope the extension is coming. As for off the field, I obviously have no evidence for this and maybe it's flat out wrong, but I would be a touch surprised if Theo brought in a guy like this onto a team that as far as we know appears to be full of mostly pretty good guys without knowing something we don't.
  16. TT what would you feel is a fair trade that would make you happy? What are some examples of realistic hypotheticals that would leave you bummed? ETA: Also, does Chapman bump Rondon to set-up? Any feelings on how that will impact Hector/Cubs? He for sure bumps him to set up, and Rondon said the other day that he doesn't give a [expletive]. At least publicly. He got bumped for Jason horsefeathering Motte at one point last year and didn't make so much as a ripple, so I'm sure he will be fine.
  17. Why the hell do you even put him in the horsefeathering game
  18. Wish we'd have gotten more out of Javy and Szczur against lefties. Dex and Bryzzo in the 8th though
  19. Good thing they're hitting right behind Bryzzo
