  1. Someone said yesterday that the White Sox have had the 'crosstown cup' since 2012, which isn't technically true, FTR. I was reminded yesterday that we won it in 2013 (I think that was the year Dioner Navarro had a huge series against them). They've won/retained it each year since, though.
  2. That was a fun damn weekend of baseball to see at Wrigley. Crowd was great both games.
  3. Ha I bought it too. I didn't see it live and I'm not sure MLB.TV did the free archived games thing yet. I always love that Aramis moment against Philly because that was like Final Boss level for that team for me - I absolutely knew he was going to come through in that spot because they'd done it so many times already, and he did.
  4. It is incredible how many of the Brewers I flat out have not heard of
  5. Grichuk is only in the majors because he gets to play 19 games a year against us
  6. I've been needing one to replace my Russell, which pretty much has to be mothballed now. I think Contreras is gonna slide right in that spot.
  7. Hard contact is a little less annoying when it can't leave the yard
  8. I'm to the point where I'd love to see us get Gray just to get Lackey off the damn roster
  9. Didn't see it posted here, but saw on Twitter that Lester was first Cubs P to have an XBH, walk and steal in the same game since Charlie Root in 1930. Pointless, but fun. Also, Lester has to hit a dong one of these times. He's had a few ABs where he's just ripped the ball.
  10. The Panthers continue their run of being the most low-key idiotic franchise in football by firing their GM, Dave Gettleman, a week before training camp. Gettleman's resume: 4 seasons, 3 division titles, a 15-1 season and Super Bowl appearance. All this apparently because Jerry Richardson's geriatric ass doesn't like that they let Josh Norman walk over a year ago.
  11. Yeah but neither have the Cubs Funnily enough, the SI I received the day we got Quintana suggested we trade for Bumgarner.
  12. Quintana is going to throw perfect games every time out as a Cub, I can get down with that
  13. It's my kinda team, Charlie, it's my kinda team
  14. Bumgarner's is really good ($12M in each of next 2 seasons), but, yes. Without looking it up I'm guessing Rizzo's is the biggest steal among such contracts in baseball. You guys ever hear of Chris Sale? Sale was traded and I just decided to completely forget that it didn't mean his contract was reset
  15. Think I saw somewhere on twitter that he's in line to start Sunday. I'm rooting for this just because I'll be at next Saturday and Sunday's games and this would line him up to start one of them.
  16. Bumgarner's is really good ($12M in each of next 2 seasons), but, yes. Without looking it up I'm guessing Rizzo's is the biggest steal among such contracts in baseball.
  17. It's 3.5 years, not 2.5. I think this move is just as much about 2018-20 as it is about 2017 (I promise I wrote that before I saw Len tweeted the exact same thing), but the beauty of it is it makes us a hell of a lot better in 2017, too. I'll be even more excited if this comes with a Lackey DFA.
  18. This kind of move is exactly why we stockpiled so many assets during the tank years. I really like it. Hate to lose Eloy, but penciling in a pretty good arm into the rotation through '20 at low cost is completely worth it.
  19. Been some kind of first half, fellas
  20. Blame Masnke In all seriousness, he was pretty much perfectly fine from 2012-15, with a little blip in '14. Whatever we did to try to unlock more power in spring of '16 seemed to really horsefeathers him up and he's never recovered.
  21. This is horsefeathering absurd
  22. I can't think of a worse person to try to make the discrimination case. Hernandez would've been out on his ass years ago if umpiring were any kind of meritocracy.
