I was very confused by the whole thing. None of the apps made note of it being a regular season game, its just next to all the spring training games. I get the reasoning and know this isn't that unique, but 2 weeks before everybody else starts is new, no? I feel like this has happened before, like within the last 5 or 6 years. It's more like a week before, right? Dodgers and D-Backs played in Australia before Opening Day just a couple years ago.

Overall he got a 13+ WAR career boost. He went from 15.something to nearly 30. Yep, among the biggest increasesI'm not here to trash framing stats, but it is really hard for me to believe it's so important that it makes Miguel Montero almost literally twice as good a baseball player as he was considered before it was included. I also saw that Ryan Doumit's single-season WAR total in 2008 plunged from nearly 3 to -2.5 with framing included. That seems like quite a leap.

Hendricks, probably Contreras If Contreras' agent had advised him to sign any extension with his value at its low point since arriving in MLB, I would hope he would be fired for malpractice.

That's actually a good question and I would agree with your position. I suspect with the 3-batter minimum, such occurrences will be lessened. There were actually a couple Tweets over the last few hours about how one-batter appearances have declined in recent years, which kind of underscores (IMO) that the rule change isn't really necessary.

I haven't had time to dive into a lot of this yet, but the "top 10 comebacks of the Maddon era" video was terrific and I'm looking forward to watching more of this stuff.

Just to make sure I say something positive, I like pitcher maximums. There were too damn many pitchers on rosters. It used to be 12-man staffs seemed excessive and the Cubs were carrying 14 at times the last few years, which is dumb. That said, three-batter minimum is complete horsefeathers. I don't like changing the rules just because people were getting good at maximizing benefit from it, which is pretty much what this comes down to. I understand the game flow thing. I just disagree with this in a big way. I'd rather see the NL DH than this, and I've gotten into angry arguments with people here about the DH.

all i remember is i got a small upset win in one round and then rawaction slaughtered me I won in round one and lost in round two, no idea who against. I know that was a terrible idea and laden with stupidity but that horsefeathers was fun.

Yeah, in a world where Pujols is still getting paid until he's like 42, having Bryce signed to age 39 isn't going to ruffle feathers. The most interesting thing to come out of the last day-plus's reporting to me is that the Nationals' supposed $300M offer from right after the season was basically a scam operation by their front office, with deferrals all the way until Harper would turn 60.

Supposedly 4/180, and while tempting I don't blame him for not taking it. The way things are going I doubt he'd have made 150M after those 4 years.

i find it hard to hate jaxon that much for his performance because of how bad most of those teams were. I freely admit I was probably directing some of my general hatred of our suckiness at Jackson. There was nothing rational about it.

I hated Hundley and I was like 13 at the time and hadn't moved past hero worship of anyone who was on a sports team yet. The only other king of the hated (with apologies to LaTroy Hawkins and a few others) is Edwin Jackson. I know he's a decent guy and it wasn't his fault he was Theo's first big FA signing here, but my God, that dude's work for the Cubs just made me angry on a visceral level unseen before or since.

I kind of see it the other way. If the owners give anything at all in the next CBA, it's going to be the ability to make more money early at the expense of making money later, so even a guy like Harper probably isn't seeing 25M-ish per year in his mid-30s if something like that comes to pass.

Rosenthal is saying he didn't want an opt-out. That doesn't make any sense unless it was to get extra money out of them. There's no reason to not want as much control as they are willing to give you. Yeah, he probably didn't want one in exchange for the record contract. Which seems like a weird objective for him given that Trout is probably going to get a bigger one in a couple years anyway.

Christ, 13 years? Obviously that's for luxury tax purposes but Bryce is obviously pretty sure he wasn't going to have a career after 36 (which, given the way of things these days, is probably a safe bet)

Edmonds' dong against STL when he bat flipped and glared into their dugout was a good one too. I've never 180'd on a player before or since like Jim Edmonds.
