  1. No blackout on WLS. :D I'm even more psyched now I'll be able to listen to the games I can't get on WGN-TV. BIMI, your guess is as good as mine as to Pargo not dressing... Starting for the Bulls tonight: Duhon Hinrich Chapu Songaila Chandler For the Bobcats: Brevin Knight Kareem Rush Gerald Wallace Emeka Okafor Primoz Brezec
  2. I'm praying for WLS's internet streaming of the game to not black out. If I get to listen to Bulls games on the radio it would be the highlight of my year.
  3. The Reputation/SportsCenter Fielding Award Sponsored by ESPN Hmmm...has a kind of ring to it.
  4. Even if Ichiro is available, I doubt that we'd be getting equal value if we traded for him. Seattle would want a lot.
  5. I would hope that MLB is not this desperate to cover their stars' a$$es. But unfortunately considering their behavior so far regarding steroids, this is a perfectly plausible scenario.
  6. That was an incredible game. I got excited when DLee hit the first home run and then when he hit the 2nd one I jumped up and down on my bed, and then when CPatt walked off for the win I went completely nuts. I felt so optimistic at that point. Too bad it ended up not going the rest of the year like that.
  7. The problem is that we have lots of candidates for #4 and #5 (Maddux, Rusch, Williams, etc.) and most of the people you mentioned aren't much better than what we have. Valid point. I, for one, though have been wondering why we haven't heard Washburn rumblings considering JH's apparent love affair with a left handed starter any way he can get one.
  8. Oh come on. Who was a better fielding pitcher? I don't know, but Maddux didn't strike me as wondrous out there. Maybe my expectations for Maddux are extraordinarily high, but he didn't seem to be much better than any of our other pitchers. On occasion he'd make an exceptional play, other times he'd commit a flub. In fielding prowess, he didn't seem to be any better than Carlos Zambrano (if anything, I'd rate Carlos higher). Whether Maddux did or did not deserve the gold glove, there is little doubt he is gobbling them up on name recoginition. I don't think the people that vote for this stuff know any better than I do as to who was the league's best fielding pitcher. I would've voted John Smoltz. He had good numbers at most every stat and had no errors compared to Maddux's 3.
  9. Vizquel got it by name as Jack Wilson was more deserving. Wilson had Vizquel by high margins in Range Factor and Zone Rating. He also was involved in a whopping FORTY-FIVE more double plays than Vizquel. My ballot at SS would have been: 1. Jack 2. Neifi 3. Vizquel
  10. Congratulations to Maddux and Lee! I wouldn't have given it to either of them but I'm not going to argue with some more honors for the Cubs. :P
  11. ESPN Bottomline also reports that Guardado's option got picked up.
  12. I voted for the Perez slam because at the time it was huge for possible playoff implications and because it was unexpected. I love going back and watching great moments from the Cubs online. I still go back and watch things from 04 once in a while too. It's fun when you've got lots of time to burn.
  13. Helton deserves it. A quick glance at stats shows that much. If Lee gets it, it'll be more for his hitting than anything, as odd as that is for a fielding award.
  14. Throwbacks.... :( Not a fan.
  15. What? GOOD players? That doesn't make any sense...
  16. Shall we sticky this thread? Mike, I agree with you, I can't see anyone other than LeBron getting MVP especially considering how good the Cavs are now.
  17. Fewer Win Shares than Eckstein and Furcal and we're going to use pretty damn good?? Don't tell ESPN that Jeter is statistically worse than Eckstein... If he didnt come with the Yankee pricetag (20 mil, ouch), tell me you wouldnt want him on your team. Well I wouldn't have a problem with him on the Cubs, but I wouldn't have a problem with a lot of people on the Cubs at SS, the four people ahead of him in WS included.
  18. Fewer Win Shares than Eckstein and Furcal and we're going to use pretty damn good?? Don't tell ESPN that Jeter is statistically worse than Eckstein...
  19. Haha, sorry we had to do it to ya. BSU plays at home against Akron this week, a tough but winnable game. A victory would put the Cards at .500 in the MAC with two Directional Michigan games left. :D
  20. Upon further review Jeter wasn't such a terrible choice after all. I still would have gone with Julio Lugo or Juan Uribe but Jeter would probably be 3rd. The real question is Varitek, who was far behind a lot of people in a lot of categories. No doubt that Victor Martinez should have gotten it instead.
  21. I can't wait for this game. I expect a classic. Of course lately those have become commonplace for Miami-VT. Right. That and PSU vs. WISC are pretty much conference title games. ACC has a title game though this year, right? Let's not get ahead of ourselves... PSU, even if they win, has to travel to East Lansing to face the Spartans. Their laid egg against Northwestern notwithstanding, they've proven in the games against ND, Michigan and Ohio State that they are at least competitive with good teams. True, but if PSU wins, they will still have just 1 loss (along with OSU, who looks to beat the snot out of the Illini). Even if PSU were to lose to MSU, they still hold the tiebreaker over NU, OSU and WISC for 2 loss teams. If PSU wins Saturday, the only thing that would screw them up is if they lost to MSU and OSU won out. And just so everyone knows, the OSU-UM game is at UM this year. You know what that means ref-wise don't you?
  22. Very tough. The Bulls could be a better team than last year and miss the playoffs anyway. Go Bulls and Capt. Kirk! http://www.barbneal.com/GRAPHICS/kirk.gif
  23. Jeter again... I can't stand Jeter. Most overrated player of all time, bar none.
  24. Unfortunately for the Bears, they're on a crash course to be the 4th-place division winner, matching them up against the top wild card team. You're talking about Atlanta/Carolina or NY Giants/Philly (whichever of those teams don't win their divisions). That's a pretty darn tough draw.
  25. I was having an arguement today with a Sox fan and a Cubs fan who wanted to keep Sosa for some stupid reason last year today about what the fans reaction would be if Sosa did come back to the Cubs for like 2 mil or something. I said most fans would not want him back and wouldnt be thrilled even if he apologized to have him back. The other two said if he apologized that Cub fans would forgive him. I called that statement stupid, but was just wondering what everyone else thought. I didn't want to trade him. I don't really feel he owes us an apology either. The whole incident was never a big deal to me. The season was already lost at that point, I couldn't care less who played. I was just pissed that they blew the wild card. At this point, I wouldn't want him back, not because of anything having to do with resentment or dislike, just because he sucks. If he could still put up a .900 OPS like he did in 03 (and much of 04), I'd take him back in a heartbeat. Agreed on never wanting to trade him after 04, agreed on not wanting him now due to suckitude, and agreed on the .900 OPS point. Now if Sammy really wanted to endear himself back to Cub fans, he could always come back to the Cubs for about 2-3 million and promise to a) work his a$$ off this offseason and b) be largely a bench performer. I don't think this will happen though, because Sammy could probably get more than that from another team and because I think Dusty would raise a big stink if he tried to come back.
