  1. Fewer Win Shares than Eckstein and Furcal and we're going to use pretty damn good?? Don't tell ESPN that Jeter is statistically worse than Eckstein...
  2. Haha, sorry we had to do it to ya. BSU plays at home against Akron this week, a tough but winnable game. A victory would put the Cards at .500 in the MAC with two Directional Michigan games left. :D
  3. Upon further review Jeter wasn't such a terrible choice after all. I still would have gone with Julio Lugo or Juan Uribe but Jeter would probably be 3rd. The real question is Varitek, who was far behind a lot of people in a lot of categories. No doubt that Victor Martinez should have gotten it instead.
  4. I can't wait for this game. I expect a classic. Of course lately those have become commonplace for Miami-VT. Right. That and PSU vs. WISC are pretty much conference title games. ACC has a title game though this year, right? Let's not get ahead of ourselves... PSU, even if they win, has to travel to East Lansing to face the Spartans. Their laid egg against Northwestern notwithstanding, they've proven in the games against ND, Michigan and Ohio State that they are at least competitive with good teams. True, but if PSU wins, they will still have just 1 loss (along with OSU, who looks to beat the snot out of the Illini). Even if PSU were to lose to MSU, they still hold the tiebreaker over NU, OSU and WISC for 2 loss teams. If PSU wins Saturday, the only thing that would screw them up is if they lost to MSU and OSU won out. And just so everyone knows, the OSU-UM game is at UM this year. You know what that means ref-wise don't you?
  5. Very tough. The Bulls could be a better team than last year and miss the playoffs anyway. Go Bulls and Capt. Kirk! http://www.barbneal.com/GRAPHICS/kirk.gif
  6. Jeter again... I can't stand Jeter. Most overrated player of all time, bar none.
  7. Unfortunately for the Bears, they're on a crash course to be the 4th-place division winner, matching them up against the top wild card team. You're talking about Atlanta/Carolina or NY Giants/Philly (whichever of those teams don't win their divisions). That's a pretty darn tough draw.
  8. I was having an arguement today with a Sox fan and a Cubs fan who wanted to keep Sosa for some stupid reason last year today about what the fans reaction would be if Sosa did come back to the Cubs for like 2 mil or something. I said most fans would not want him back and wouldnt be thrilled even if he apologized to have him back. The other two said if he apologized that Cub fans would forgive him. I called that statement stupid, but was just wondering what everyone else thought. I didn't want to trade him. I don't really feel he owes us an apology either. The whole incident was never a big deal to me. The season was already lost at that point, I couldn't care less who played. I was just pissed that they blew the wild card. At this point, I wouldn't want him back, not because of anything having to do with resentment or dislike, just because he sucks. If he could still put up a .900 OPS like he did in 03 (and much of 04), I'd take him back in a heartbeat. Agreed on never wanting to trade him after 04, agreed on not wanting him now due to suckitude, and agreed on the .900 OPS point. Now if Sammy really wanted to endear himself back to Cub fans, he could always come back to the Cubs for about 2-3 million and promise to a) work his a$$ off this offseason and b) be largely a bench performer. I don't think this will happen though, because Sammy could probably get more than that from another team and because I think Dusty would raise a big stink if he tried to come back.
  9. I would like to see Nomar back but if the Cubs can find a decent alternative other than giving Furcal double what he's worth then I wouldn't object to Nomar walking.
  10. I don't either, and I don't think many on this board do, especially at the price that Johnny wants.
  11. According to a post I read on another board, here's the list of players who are out of options. 1. Angel Guzman 2. Jon Leicester 3. Sergio Mitre 4. Todd Wellemeyer 5. Jerome Williams Now personally I wouldn't expect to see anyone on this list other than Jerome to remain Cubs unless the organization decided that Angel needs to be given a big-league shot before they give up on him. My stance on Mitre and Welly is good riddance, and I won't mind seeing Leicester the Molester go although he was pretty good in 2004.
  12. I'd like to see him back in the NL so he could play a series at Wrigley. I would be extremely interested to see his reception.
  13. Is this BA/OBP/SLG? If so I will go with .280/.330/.510.
  14. I can't wait for this game. I expect a classic. Of course lately those have become commonplace for Miami-VT.
  15. Not a fan, but yes. Offensive coordinator quit/resigned/stepped down but will stay on staff through end of season. Fullmer to call plays Sort of true. Fulmer and the entire offensive staff will share playcalling duties. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Tennessee's offense is just not good enough to keep up with ND's. GO IRISH! Vol fans better hope the rumor that David Cutcliffe is returning is true. That offense is in disarray and I don't think that Phil is the man to fix it. He needs help in a big way. I also heard a rumor that Cutcliffe has been talking to Fulmer regarding ND. Of course this had better just be a rumor or else... This had better be just a rumor, because if not for some medical problems Cutcliffe would still be ND's offensive coordinator. Not that I am complaning because Weis has proven himself worthy of playcalling himself. I was big time worried about the UT game earlier in the season and had they beaten SC I would still be worried. But right now the Vols seem like a team searching for an identity. If they can't score points on the Gamecocks or Tide, then they probably won't be able to score enough to overcome ND's stout offense. I think the Irish win this one by double digits.
  16. One of my friends worked at ESPN Radio 1000 over the summer and he said that Len Kasper was one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, which made me like Len all the more. He's a great announcer and the Cubs got a steal with him. Too bad they can't do that at some on-the-field positions...
  17. You're kidding, right? You mean, "the other" 250 million dollar payroll" teams? :-k I just want them to win. Who cares how? Maybe it's just the Yankee-hater in me, but I want this drought broken by a team with a budget, not one that can just buy anyone they want. somehow the cubs will get by with their 100m+ payroll... somehow... Yes, it is our lot in life. Somehow, someway, we'll struggle through it and eventually overcome the limitations.

  19. Maybe go after a CF (Bradley/Cameron) with those extra starting arms we have, but I agree.. LF - Murton CF - Patterson (Bradley? ) RF - Giles 1B - Lee 2B - Walker SS - Furcal 3B - ARam C - Barrett To me, that lineup looks good enough to compete for the division. Amazing how much of a difference 2 signings would make. I think with Giles and Furcal, we could afford to let Patterson try one more time in CF. The line-up could be: Furcal SS Walker 2b Lee 1b Giles RF Ramirez 3b Patterson CF Murton LF Barrett C I think that line-up could conceivably be a top 3-4 offense. We could afford to let Patterson try again in center field but I would rather not chance it. Go and Get Bradley the Dodgers are in dump mode. Forget Furcal and get Nomar on the cheap. Walker Bradley Lee Giles Ramirez Nomar Barrett Murton man I wish the Cubs where the Yankee's and could replace Murton with Dunn, Manny, Floyd, Matsui. I'd rather the Cubs never win one than become one of those 250 million payroll super-teams.
  20. I checked this thread out to see how many posts it would take before Hendry was mentioned. We got 6.
  21. Andy

OBP who? We've got great clubhouse chemistry and that's what counts!
  22. I agree - I've always thought he was one of the most overrated minds in baseball. My impression is that he's very good at dissecting in game situations, but terrible when it comes to evaluating players and teams as a whole. I completely agree. I honestly think that Stoney would make a much better skipper than GM. He knows how to use the talent given to him on the field. That being said, I doubt he'd want to be a manager and I doubt I'd want him as a manager. He'd be every bit as outgoing and brash as Ozzie though. The media would love him. I'll take Stoney over Dusty in a second.
  23. So that (very) roughly translates into 34 homeruns in a full season away from PETCO. What's the problem? He had 17 HR total, only 9 on the road. If Giles hit "only" 20-25 homers or so as a Cub next season and kept up his OBP production I would be very much fine with that.
  24. "Witches are made of wood...so if she floats, she's a witch."
  25. It's a little early to say something like that. Burnitz wasn't great but considering the time frame we were in after trading Sammy he was probably the best guy available. Now if we end up with some Willie Greene/Shane Andrews/Ron Coomer types plugged in at right field then we can talk.
