  1. It's a good thing no pitchers on our team ever get injured, then.
  2. Murton - The Leprechaun Pierre - Slappy
  3. Wolf could have been more polite, but his point is absolutely correct. Barrett is probably the best offensive catcher in the NL, and his defense is not that bad, so why go nuts with acquisitions? There are two players the Cubs need to be focusing on - Tejada and a decent RF (probably Bradley).
  4. Stay away. Javy's getting up there in years. He's not even in my top 5 of Orioles I'd want in a trade.
  5. Young, Jeter, Peralta Young is purely a creature of Arlington. As you know quite well. Jeter's peak was many moons ago and hasn't been Tejada's equal in some time. And his defensive issues drag his value at SS down quite a bit. Peralta needs to do it for more than one year to prove it. He's won two Gold Gloves, dude! *sarcasm*
  6. I'd offer Wood in a second (especially if that meant we could keep Pie), but would he waive his NTC?
  7. I'm saying no just because I don't want to be crushed when it doesn't happen.
  8. That's what she said, Warp.
  9. Supposedly they've had issues since then.
  10. That settles it. I'm going on record as saying that Tejada is an Oriole or a Cub next season. All that stuff you heard from the CubsTalk poster is getting me pumped up. I would hope that Jim can get this done without giving up both Pie and Hill, but if that's what it takes to get a World Series-contending offense, then I say, do it.
  11. I know everyone would like to see something guaranteed solid to fill that question mark, but the quesion has to be asked: does that lineup allow the Corey Patterson Experiment to continue on the northside of Chicago? Not if Milton Bradley gets non-tendered, or if we can get him for dirt cheap. But such a thing would cause our offense to be too talented for words, so four or five of them would probably get hurt before Opening Day.
  12. To reiterate: ND was not an at-large team. They got an AUTOMATIC bid by being ranked in the top 6 of the BCS, the same way that any other non-BCS conference team has to get in (like Utah last year).
  13. Interesting, I turned the BSU game off with .4 left and they'd fouled someone and were down 56-53, and the final was 57-56 ISU. The Cards must have made a halfcourt heave at the buzzer to cut the final margin to one...now I want to see a highlight.
  14. I don't know. It's different because it's the NL, but I think the Cubs lineup with Tejada added would be pretty darn potent CF Pierre - scratch or slight advantage Angels 2B Walker - advantage Cubs 1B Lee - probably advantage Angels, unless Lee repeats 3B Ramirez - advantage Ramirez...Manny SS Tejada - clearly advantage Cubs LF Murton - clearly advantage Cubs C Barrett - clearly advantage Cubs RF ? - probably advantage Cubs, no matter who they get for RF P - closer to a scratch than you might thing. it is after all Jose Molina, not Bengie (splitting time with a rookie) the Angels big bobbers at 3 and 4 would probably be better, but overall, 1-8, the Cubs would be better offensively. further, I don't know about defense either. that Cubs team is not good defensively, and the only clear advantage is SS, 3B and Vlad's arm. Anderson is pedestrian in left, Figgins never played OF until he reached the majors and his range numbers stink, Vlad's range has diminished considerably, Kennedy's range stinks. that's a great team, but I don't think they would come close the the best lineup in baseball on both offense and defense. That's a crazy lineup. I never thought I would see a better lineup, at least talent-wise, than what we had in the second half of 2004, but if we got Tejada and Dusty didn't stupidly bench Murton, there's a very real possibility that the 06 lineup would exceed it.
  15. I've turned two games off because of the Bulls' suckiness, this and the Celts game, and they've won both. Maybe they should keep frustrating me! On another note, the Bulls would be winning either the Atlantic or Southeast divisions, but thanks to geography, they're down five slots in the playoff hunt. They'd be the 2 seed in either of the other divisions, but they're the 7 right now. That's fair.
  16. Ball State goes down valiantly to Indiana State, but when you air ball two free throws in the closing minutes, you don't deserve to win. Three weeks till IU comes to town to kill us. I'm going to say it every time we lose from now on, but damn, we miss Peyton Stovall. ND plastering Florida International 81-47 with under a minute left.
  17. Great play from Hinrich, Deng, Sweets, and Songaila. Great 2nd quarter except for the very end. Let's not have another 3rd quarter collapse please...
  18. I'd never trade Ramirez for Tejada, and I know Hendry won't.
  19. Remember when MJ wore Bullets throwbacks? *shudder*
  20. Why all the blasting on Murton's OF arm? If anything it is an improvement over the 02-04 seasons. Not great by any means but we needn't jump on him, it's not like he's Lance Berkman.
  21. I'll be shocked if Murton's doing that badly after 100 ABs.
  22. Notre Dame plays Florida International tonight, so barring an Alabama letdown, the Irish should go to 4-2. Ball State is at Terre Haute facing Indiana State tonight...we pretty much need four of their players to drop dead to have a chance in that one.
  23. If they do indeed come back to the pack, we're the beneficiaries. :D
  24. It's entirely un-Cubs fan-like, but for some reason I'm very optimistic that we will land Tejada in another typical Hendry fleecing. Mora too please, thanks. Can he play RF? I believe he has played LF before so I can assume he could play right. I can't imagine Hendry being able to land both. If he did (without selling the farm) I might just have to worship him.
  25. Pretty much. We're more likely to have to give up Cedeno than Pie anyway, because Baltimore doesn't have an in-house SS option unless they move Roberts over there, in which case Walker would be on the table instead of Cedeno.
