  1. He's absolutely crushing lefties.
  2. Olt with a K in his first at bat.
  3. I'm still surprised Bobby Hill ended up not having much of a career. I thought for sure he'd be a solid starter.
  4. Agreed. I think Valbuena would be a great bench player. Having both him and Sweeney on the bench next year would be ideal.
  5. The difference being that instead of Jim Tressell apologizing for them, Urban is putting them out on their ass. LOL at Urban Meyer being some kind of disciplinarian. He just reinstated a guy who slammed his girlfriend's head against a door.
  6. Rivera in to pitch for Kane County. He's been 91-93 and has been the only pitcher all day with a semblance of offspeed stuff.
  7. I agree with your assessment of his numbers but I'll leave the determination of what that percentage is to the really smart people in our front office who have seen him throw and have to write the check. I agree. The FO obviously has more information, and if they think he's a good investment I'll trust their assessment. But as an outsider, with limited information, I still think the marginal cost of Garza is worth it.
  8. I'll be interested in seeing how much he actually signs for versus how much Garza makes in FA. If our financial situation keeps us from upping payroll this offseason, Gonzalez appears to be in the 4 or 5 year, 10-12 mill per, range. Which would basically replace Garza's 10.5 mill salary slot. At 26, if he DOES have frontline capabilities, he's a must-get for us, in my mind. I'd rather pay the extra $5 million a year to keep Garza. Did you read that part? Because I sure as hell wouldn't. Given the stats he put up in Cuba, there's probably a less than 5% chance he actually has those capabilities. Even if he's been training for a year to get it up to 96 in a showcase.
  9. Most of the outrage was over the fact that Matt Garza was equivalent to Randy Wells, and we were giving up good assets to get him.
  10. it's a bad half a season. the rest of the numbers are pretty boner-inducing, i don't see the negativity. You don't see the insane correlation that even as a guy who hit for good power with tremendous walk rates at the same levels at similar ages, that both their K rates spiked and their production dropped hard? Guys who strike out in a third of their AAA PAs don't become Major League regulars. Maybe this is a blip on the radar for Olt, but there isn't much indication at this point that it is, and the startlingly similar example of Jackson should make anyone take pause at being all that excited about him. He turns 25 in 4 weeks, it's not as if he has years to grow into it. Are we ignoring the fact that Olt is also a plus defensive third baseman?

  12. I'm sure there's outcry from a group of residents. Heck, in Lincoln Park, people are up in arms about putting a Walgreens on Armitage. People will complain about anything.
  13. Who is this color guy for ESPN? Yeah, Theo must be so mad he signed Rizzo long-term because he cut off a relay.
  14. Unless you're concerned about his health long-term, that's ludicrous.
  15. We'll see what Soler does in August and in the fall league. Right now, I still say no. Whats everyones predictions for the Fall League rosters? It's tough to predict before 8/1 (the date a player has to be at AA for AFL eligibility purposes; only 1 player below AA is allowed per team). If I had to guess: RHP Dae-Eun Rhee RHP Barret Loux RHP AJ Morris RHP Tony Zych/Trey McNutt/Marcus Hatley (pick one) IF Logan Watkins OF Jorge Soler OF Jae-Hoon Ha or Junior Lake Dallas Beeler and Kyler Burke (if he's on an AA roster) are other possibilities as guys in the upper levels who has missed most of the season injured (if they get healthy soon). I picked Ha because he missed time with injury but in hindsight, so did Junior Lake and he could use more reps since he's converting to (at least part time) OF. ETA: That was surprisingly hard. Do you think one of the reasons Baez was brought up to AA was to make sure he and Soler could both play in the AFL?
  16. His numbers look doubly crazy when you see how bad the Southern League is at offense. I had no idea he was 5th in the league in OPS.
  17. Kind of like the other lights already at Wrigley?
  18. Didn't see this posted anywhere. Bowden proposed this trade: I don't have a problem getting Porcello and Thompson back, but Garcia seems pretty useless. I wonder if Garza+Gregg+Russell could get us Castellanos.
  19. I'm guessing they saw Bryant as the clear #2 player in the draft, and took him hoping for an underslot deal but knowing that full slot was a definite possibility. To me, this shows that they took Bryant because they thought he was the best available player, and I'd rather they do that than take a guy they rated lower just so they could sign a few more third and fourth round talents (who have very little chance of ever panning out).
  20. That report suggests that Joba Chamberlain still has value.
