  1. Has anyone else been getting calls from random people asking you to attend City Council hearings to support the renovations?
  2. What's amazing is that, despite Candelario's line, he still has a fantastic K:BB ratio and leads the Midwest League in doubles (as of yesterday). Yet I'm still disappointed by his season so far.
  3. It's almost fitting that on his way out the door Hendry's selects The One Toolsy Hacker To Rule Them All. Corey Patterson will forever hold that title.
  4. I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't. Agreed. I still hold out some hope that, like Samardzija, his career path will make him a late bloomer.
  5. His fastball velocity has been down 2.2 MPH from last year. A little bit of that might be early-season effect, but that's still noticeable. Add it all up, and that does not sound good. Maybe not good for Price, but probably good for the Cubs.
  6. Who does Lebron guard in a series against Memphis? Conley? Z-Bo? Seems like it would be a waste of his defensive talent guarding Prince or Allen. I'd put him on Conley.
  7. I know he was throwing bullpen sessions during Spring Training. Didn't someone say he was traveling with West Tennessee?
  8. I haven't been overly impressed, but I could see him sticking as a middle reliever. Definitely has looked better than Castillo ever did.
  9. Pierce Johnson gives up a 2 run homer. Already down 3-0 in the first.
  10. Sure. I mean, they have to no matter what. Our organizational pitching situation is still pretty dismal above rookie ball. We're going to need to add a bunch of pitchers in the upcoming offseason just like we did in the previous one, and that's not an easy thing to do in free agency alone no matter how much you have to spend. Adding Vizcaino and Gray/Appel will help.
  11. No doubt. If they really are going to spend money (and this article makes it seem like it's nothing more than speculation on the parts of some sources), I hope it's on Choo. He'd be perfect at the top of the lineup and there's nobody he'd be blocking in LF.
  12. I think Scherholz has shown he has no business getting at bats against lefties. I'm perfectly comfortable with the role he's in, and I think the Cubs have done a great job of maximizing his success so far.
  13. In the NL, that team was 3rd in Runs, 4th in hits, and 3rd in home runs. Sosa, of course, had a season for the ages. Mark Grace and Henry Rodriguez both had very good years, and - as you mentioned - both Gaetti and Hill posted extraordinary OPS+'s of 154 after arriving mid-season - both arriving via the waiver wire instead of trades believe it or not. The team was also pretty decent defensively, especially in the infield. Still, they also got a bit lucky and outperformed their Pythagorean record by 5 games. (Compare to the agonizing 2004 Cubs that underperformed their Pythagorean by 5.) Brant Brown was awesome too. Overall, that team did a good job of getting on base.
  14. Could just be bluffing, but I'd assume this means Bryant. They're probably trying to get Appel to fall to #2. By telling Gray he's no guarantee to go #2, maybe he's willing to a smaller offer from the Astros at #1.
  15. Yep. They didn't even put him in as a pinch hitter last night.
  16. They don't have Bird rights to him, so any team can just price him beyond what the Bulls can legally afford (the MLE, basically, since the Bulls are up against the hard cap), and they will. I'd be surprised if he gets offered more than the MLE. Guys like Nate won't get paid under the new CBA.
  17. Did you watch the first round? Bellinelli is absolutely a threat to take it to the hoop.
  18. That Boise rotation is going to be fun to follow.
  19. At this point there's no sense in keeping him in the organization. Between Valbuena, Vitters and Lake, there's no room for him in the majors or AAA.
  20. Looks like Francisco Lindor is doing his best to settle the Lindor/Baez debate.
  21. I know it's early in the season, but found this interesting. The ghost of Hendry continues to haunt: BB% among Theo-acquired players: Valbuena: 11% DeJesus: 9.1% Rizzo: 8.6% Schierholtz: 6.7% BB% among Hendry-era players: Barney: 11.6% Soriano: 3.4% Castro: 3% Castillo: 1.1%
  22. Besides the fact that Rose is from Chicago, I think that also has to do with the media's typical narrative that a QB should be the emotional leader of a football team, and football is typically a high-emotion game. Point guards, on the other hand, are supposed to be a calm, calculating presence who set up other members of the team for success. Successful point guards like John Stockton or Jason Kidd rarely showed much emotion on the court.
  23. The more I watch this team, the closer I think they are, to be honest. Take away the bullpen and some stupid errors and I think the Cubs' record would be pretty good right now. And that was with a tough schedule. Tough? They just played 8 games against 2 of the worst teams in baseball, that's been 28% of the season. And simply "taking away" their worst parts doesn't just make them better. You have to replace those bad parts with better parts. There's also the little issue of this offense still being the worst in the league at taking walks. They went 5-3 in those 8 games. It was the 12 games against teams like the Braves, Rangers, Giants and Reds that hurt them. I didn't say they're close to being a juggernaut. There's obviously holes to fill. But a bullpen should be easy to fix in one offseason (if Hoyer actually tries to do so), and a lot of the mental/defensive mistakes are made by young guys playing difficult defensive positions, which you should expect would improve with more playing time. We've already seen that improvement with Castro, as his mistakes are happening less frequently.
  24. The more I watch this team, the closer I think they are, to be honest. Take away the bullpen and some stupid errors and I think the Cubs' record would be pretty good right now. And that was with a tough schedule.
  25. That looks incredibly reasonable. Makes it even more ridiculous that so many groups are complaining. It's going to be awesome when Ricketts buys all the rooftops after 2023.
