  1. I will personally drive Noah to the airport. He is so awful, and his ability to hold up an Amare trade would be icing on the cake.
  2. An infielder can do everything you mentioned, except they get more chances than a right fielder. Middle infielders get the most chances, but there's very few plays on where they stop an extra base hit. It's either a single or an out. Corner infielders and outfielders get less chances, but good ones also let fewer doubles/triples sneak through than those who don't. So to turn it around and use terms that are usually just in batting/pitching stats-the defensive OBP difference between good and bad players for OF and corner players is lower than middle infielders (due to the number of chances), but the defensive SLG difference is higher, which means that the actual total impact each position can make is closer than it appears. People on this board consistently say that starting pitchers are more valuable than relief pitchers. I'm not sure that this is any different logically. Also, he didn't specify between middle infielders and corner infielders. The point I was making is that infielders, as a whole, can do all those things. Edit: And also, I would say it's more important to have the ability to stop a single than a double in most cases. An out>>an extra base. In either case, each defender is preventing the runner from advancing one base.

  4. That's some pretty nasty equivocating. FRAA put the difference between Bradley and Abreu last season at about 25 runs. I'd like to know how they got those numbers, considering Bradley has barely played in the field since he tore up his knee. And he wasn't a gold glover before then either.
  5. Bradley every time. even with Bradley's health concerns? Yes. I'd rather gamble on Bradley's health/the performance of his replacement than on Abreu's age and defense. It's not really a gamble at this point. Bradley gets hurt every year. And they're both probably below average defensively. At this point, the only gamble is whether Bradley will be as bad as Abreu defensively or a little better for the 100-110 games he's out there.
  6. It's not that outlandish. Hendry did the same thing for Dusty. Why do you think Neifi, Ordonez, Macias, etc stayed around as long as they did? Because Hendry thought they were valuable players? No, because Dusty did. I can guarantee you if Dusty didn't want them here, they wouldn't have been here. Hendry wasn't the one putting them in the lineup (and batting them 1-2 no less) at the expense of some of the other players. That was all Dusty. Don't forget people like Pierre too. Listening too much to the manager is Hendry's biggest downfall, and why we constantly overpay for pieces that can be filled by minor leaguers
  7. I'll agree with you on Schmidt, but I don't think anyone advocated signing Zito. It was clear to everyone but Brian Sabean that he was on the decline
  8. He just traded a reliever who spent half the year in AAA and makes over a million dollars for two players who were Top 30 prospects a year ago. I think Guzman can replace Wuertz Because the manager inexplicably hated him while he didn't mind throwing crappy Howry out there every day. Completely meaningless since they have sucked throughout their minor league careers and are not rated now. It's pretty obvious that Lou hates pitchers that don't throw strikes. Whether you agree with it or not, I think it's pretty easy to see why Lou didn't like to use him. And part of the reason they're not ranked this year is because the A's system is so good. Both of them would have a good chance of making our top 30, and I can only imagine the reaction if Hendry traded two top 30 for an average reliever making over a million dollars with Wuertz's peripherals last year. People were up in arms enough over trading worthless Cedeno for Heilman.

  10. From Starks most recent column. Not sure how plausible that really is. The Cubs weren't part of the bankruptcy filing, and all the articles indicate the bankruptcy process is pretty friendly so far. So I doubt the bankruptcy proceedings will be involved much. Not to mention this is something that was obviously contemplated beforehand.
  11. So you're telling me if you had 1.2 billion dollars, you'd shell out 900 million for something that meant nothing to you if it only produced 1 million dollars a year? Especially when there are other things on the market that could give you more money? That doesn't make sense. He's buying the team because he's a Cubs fan and because he's betting the team appreciates in value. John Canning came to a class of mine and basically said, based on my interpretation, that he lost a lot of interest after examining the materials that were given to the interested bidders. He said a normal business generating that kind of money would not sell for that much. Considering his bid was rumored to be lower than the others, that makes sense. I'll believe him over you.
  12. The Cubs really don't make that much money. The reason they're being sold for so much is because people are willing to pay that much to own a sports team. That's really funny. Even a billionaire with money to burn isn't going to flush money down the toilet year after year just because he wants to own a sports team. Maybe there are better billion dollar investments out there, but no one is stupid enough to pay $900 million for a money losing operation because he's a fan who wants to own a team. One thing is clear, even with a $140 million payroll, the Cubs are making money. No doubt about it. I've bolded the part you need to re-read. For 900 million dollars, Ricketts could have found an investment that generates a higher profit. If it wasn't the Cubs, no one would have ever paid that much

  14. http://www.gaslampball.com/2009/1/21/730239/alderson-95-chance-peavy-s My guess is that 5% is the Cubs sale. Don't know about the third group, but I bet Ricketts or Utay would give the go ahead
  15. This thread was chosen because he saw you post in it and it's where you said your PMs didn't work. More than one mod noticed that there was an excess of pointless arguing(accomplishing nothing, cluttering up several threads, and toeing the line of personal attacks from both parties) that spans several pages in multiple threads, and you were a common denominator in most of them. Though it applies to anyone, if you find yourself 8-10 posts deep in an argument/discussion, it's a good idea to step back and see if you're actually still discussing the topic at hand and not just bickering tangent after tangent that doesn't do any good. No I agree, he should have just pointed it out in a thread that it was actually relevant. I also don'tl ike thatcubbieallthewayguy condemning me for other threads when I never did anything wrong in the thread he trashed me for it. He used it as a copout what the hell are you talking about? i replied to someone else effectively saying "i agree". shouldn't your issue be with the other person? so stupid. maybe the internet isn't for you. This is exactly what I'm talking about. You throw out lines like "so stupid. maybe the internet isn't for you", and i'm the one who is wrong. okay I disagreed with you when you said we should give Vitters no chance to be good, and instead of backing up your arugment, you instead claim I'm "aruging for the sake or arguing" because of other threads. Then some other guy comes in to insult me, again for other threads, and you join in with him.... when really I did nothing in that thread Stop using past threads to try and comdemn me or something just because I didn't agree with your post Oh look, more of the same Really at this point if someone said 2+2=5 and I said it was 4, it would be full of posts from you guys saying the same stuff just because you don't like me I was referring to both of you

  17. I like your line up way better than this Rosenblog character. I'm down with DLee right now. He needs to hit his way back out of the bottom half of any line up I constructed. Here's where I would go right now: Soriano Fukudome Ramirez Bradley Soto Fontenot Lee Theriot R-L-R-S-R-L-R-R Even though Lee was bad he was still better than Kosuke. Why throw Kosuke right back into the fire and put pressure on him? Might as well bat him 7th or 8th until he shows he can be a major league baseball player. I'd go: Soriano Fontenot Ramirez Bradley Soto Lee Fukudome Theriot Against LHP Soriano Johnson Ramirez Bradley Soto Lee Theriot Miles When Bradley is hurt, I'm guessing Lou will hit Soriano 5th and move Theriot to the leadoff spot
  18. Even without assuming a Peavy trade, this makes the Cubs better. They got probably as much value out of Pie as they possibly could have. Now, you're probably right. But if Lou had given Pie a real shot last year, maybe we're pretty happy with our OF and don't need to sign Bradley. Maybe his 10mil goes better elsewhere. Lou bungled the situation and refused to ever give Pie a shot. Hendry did the best he could with that... I'll grant him this is about as good a trade as we were gonna get at this point. Bradley and Pie play two totally different positions, though. Bradley is a direct result of Fukudome
  19. White Sox need a CF. How about Clayton Richard? Only 4 BB in 40 something innings in AAA
  20. Definitely not. He's the definition of untouchable for the O's. If Tampa called and said they would trade David Price straight up for him I am sure the O's would do it. I doubt it. Seems like they severely overvalue their players. They'd probably ask for Upton too
  21. That's like an inverse order of talent. And do you really want to give Lowe the same amount of money as Peavy?
  22. I haven't really seen a lot of interest in him, other than the Rangers. What if he'd take a 1 year deal to prove he's healthy? I'd just reserve one rotation spot for him and Harden, and have them switch off, but that would obviously never happen.
  23. This is what is going to happen. I'm one of his biggest fans, but at this point we should probably just trade him for a bullpen arm before we end up releasing him in a few years.
  24. Derosa is a nice player but he's not nearly good enough to hold up a trade for far better player. He's replacable, and just because you don't care about his age doesn't mean that it's not an issue. No, that production is not replaceable at 2B. Now if you tell me you are working on a Furcal deal after DeRo gets moved for Peavy, then we'll talk. But let's not make it seem that DeRo is some scrub player that can be easily replaced by a Fontenot or old ass veteran. Yeah, DeRosa really showed up in the playoffs when he fumbled an easy DP in Game 2 (opening the floodgates) and then went 0-4 in Game 3. Furthermore, why does DeRosa seem to skate by with mistakes while someone like Soriano never does? I can remember a few times during the season he made dumb defensive or baserunning plays, and nothing was mentioned.
