  1. Pretty low for Castro. Also, why Searle so high?
  2. Soooo, JH is assuming he'll still be here to draft him 3 or 4 years hence..... He's walking on to a mid-major program, I think it's fair assume that he's not someone the Cubs are interested in signing, this was a courtesy pick as there have been others as well. Miami has a great baseball program
  3. Almost halfway through the season, who do you see as the Cubs Top 10 right now? Assume for the discussion that the Cubs sign everyone in the first 10 or so rounds in the draft. Mine: 1. Vitters 2. Jackson 3. Castro .... .... 4. Lee 5. Samardzija 6. Cashner 7. Carpenter 8. Burke 9. Rhee 10. Thomas Other: B. Parker, B. Jackson, Flaherty, LaMatheiu, Jung, Clevenger, Searle I'm sure I'm missing some
  4. it'd be nice if he at least yelled at Bradley and Soriano for slacking out there in the outfield. I'm sure Bradley would respond well to that.
  5. Santo, vetoing a trade to the Angels in '73. Thanks
  6. Does anyone know what the answer was to the trivia question regarding the first Cub to use 10 and 5 rights?
  7. He can deny it if he wants in the court of public opinion. If he sues for defamation though, the actual report would come out and he'd never win anyways. It would be great if Clemens tried this though
  8. The question is, how many White Sox fans will be quick enough on their feet to make signs for tonight's game?
  9. Best trade option for us, IMO. The guy can play 3b while Ramirez is down/needs rest, he can spell Theriot a little more often than Blanco because his bat it better, and he could probably play some 2b too. If the light suddenly goes on, then he's a better alternative than almost anyone available for trade....but the chances of that are unknown (hasn't been given much of a shot). I don't know why more teams don't go after prospects that an original team has lost interest in. As for Wood, you could also put Fontentot back in a utility role when Aramis comes back and slide Theriot to second base. Give Wood some playing time and he could end up being what Khalil Greene was supposed to be (not defensively, of course).
  10. Because the point of the move would be rest Theriot
  11. Hopefully the offense gets going so we can get Theriot some rest and give Blanco some starts. If the rest of our offense is clicking, I'll take Blanco's glove in the starting lineup a few days a week, even if he can't drive in runs with it like Izturis.
  12. Considering Frank Thomas listened to Von Joshua, I would hope Soriano would
  13. My guess is that he's referring to a teaching approach, not hitting approach.
  14. That's the biggest confusion for me - both Perry and Joshua (from what I understand) have similar philosophies, so is anything really going to be different from a teaching perspective? Not that I dislike the patience approach or want it changed (I'm glad we're teaching it), I just don't see the likely positive coming from it. My only problem with it is that it takes away one our biggest assets in the farm system. Gerald Perry was perfectly fine as a hitting coach. Joshua's replacement on the farm will most likely be horrible, given the Cubs track record
  15. Thus ended the "Patient Cubbies Era". Signal the birth of "Neo-Dustianism" aka "being aggressive" "You can't walk your way out of slumps, dude."
  16. I'd rather have Joshua be Vitters' personal hitting coach. What good is he going to do for someone like Aaron Miles?
  17. If he's got good contact skills, he might already have good strike zone recognition. I think players with a good eye can develop a more patient approach. I don't think many players can develop a good eye, though. I agree. His only problem is that he's in this organization and not somewhere else. Just look at Hanley Ramirez when he was 19 in Low-A: .275/.327/.403
  18. Yea nevermind he leads the team in OPS. Hes in a slump the last 7 days or so which coincided with his in and out of the lineup due to all the leftys we were facing. Actually his "slump" is approaching a month now
  19. That's what happens when you sign an injury-prone DH to play RF
  20. Reason undisclosed... http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2009/06/harden-scratched-from-rehab-start.html
  21. Where is he this year? I've only seen him in a few box scores so far but forget the team
  22. Yeah, you're right - he was on the DL to start the year. I had forgotten. I just wonder what, if anything, the Os fixed with him. And whether or not the Cubs would have found the same thing. If anything, its just his confidence. He could lose that on any given play for no reason at all. It probably helps not having Lou as his manager ready to pull him the first time he walks 2 guys in an inning. It didn't seem to hurt him much the year before
  23. I was at the game last night, and it's a miracle Fox was able to throw it to Scales at second after watching his warmup throws. The first one sailed over Lee's head and nearly took out someone in the first row.
