  1. he's not a douchebag like most baseball fans seem to think he is. I don't see him as a douchebag at all. He's definitely intense, but he's also been known to pick fights with teammates in the past. He's like a crazy version of Zambrano. I wonder how they'll get along.
  2. http://stations.espn.go.com/stations/espnradio1000/blog?id=3738908 Yayyyyyyyyyy Please be Bradley. Great news, I really want Bradley and I think his attitude is something that this team needs not to mention a .999 OPS Sarcasm? What team on Earth would need an attitude like Bradley's?
  3. The Twins? Hmm.. I'm not surprised that more teams are interested in getting involved with DeRosa now sounding available. It would be nice if we could get Kubel out of this deal
  4. This may actually help. From what the newspapers have said, the was supposed to be debt-laden deal to avoid capital gains tax.... or not I should have been clearer. I was referring to actually getting the financing necessary.
  5. I don't think it's that far-fetched. The free agent market is pretty tight this year, and he's almost a part-time player.
  6. Where do I sign? Seems like an awful lot to give up from our major league team. This team is built to win now, and losing DeRosa and Marshall really hurts our flexibility when Soriano, Harden, Zambrano and Peavy go down at some point. We still have Samardzija and Gaudin (hopefully). Marshall isn't that huge of a loss, though I'd love to keep him. And then who replaces one of them in the bullpen? And do you really see Samardzija as being Marshall's equal? Furthermore, what happens if we sign Bradley, and can't play DeRosa in right for the 60-70 games Bradley will miss? This trade looks good on paper, but we're really losing a lot of flexibility

  8. This may actually help. From what the newspapers have said, the was supposed to be debt-laden deal to avoid capital gains tax. If they start selling off assets to pay creditors, a large amount of cash probably becomes more important. It's too bad Cuban is out of the running, because I'm sure he's got plenty of cash on hand.
  9. Hey Lou! Ibanez will cost more in annual salary AND draft pick compensation. It's time for you to like Milton Bradley now. Lou's past his prime. I'm guessing he's not interested in fighting his own players anymore. Besides, he probably likes players that will actually play more than 60-70 games a year.
  10. He's also more likely to hit .230 with an OBP below .300
  11. People hate him here simply because he's been described with terms like "gritty" and "grinder." Fact of the matter is there's nobody worth paying for or trading for to provide a marginal upgrade at the position. People may call last season a fluke, but they were saying the same thing last offseason (I think I even made a thread about it). He deserves another chance to start, and I'm not much of a fan.
  12. Everyone who wants to buy the Cubs has to borrow because of the Tribune No one's lending in the amounts needed to acquire the Cubs. Which is why the Tribune is willing to keep such a large piece of the team

  14. a sox fan would. That's not what I meant. I want someone who understands the Cubs and their fans and isn't just in it from a business perspective Someone who spends $1 billion on anything is going to be doing it from a business perspective. Also, how would an owner work to "understand" Cubs fans, and how would that understanding make him a better owner? Depends on what you mean by business perspective. A straight business person would probably never buy a sports team today. In terms of profit generation, the Cubs aren't a very good investment at 900 million/1 billion. Sports franchises obtain their value more from the buyers (i.e. someone is willing to pay a premium just to own a sports team). So basically I'm saying I don't want someone to own the team who bought it just because they want to own a big sports team. If given the choice, I'd rather have someone who bought the Cubs because they want the Cubs to win, and it hurts them just as much as fans when they lose. Not really a big deal (and Canning might very well be the best candidate), just my personal preference.

  16. You successfully narrowed it down to one person with that description. If you want to protect him, you might want to edit
  17. He's a Sox fan If I were a Coke fan and bought the Pepsi company, I would probably convert to a Pepsi fan pretty quickly. Bad comparison. Unless you're one of those Coke drinkers that devotes hours a day to the cause...
  18. Yea, I don't really see that plan working all that well in a liquidity crisis, though. Exactly. That's why they're willing to hold on to half the team.
  19. This doesn't really have anything to do with MLB. Zell has to unload the team as quick as he can, and nobody will ever get financing for the whole team by the time he needs it. I have yet to see anywhere that Cuban can't complete the original bid that he put forth. If you can find a bank that will lend someone a billion dollars for a sports team right now (and payments deferred for a number of years), please call Cuban and Zell because I'm sure they'd both like to get this done. I wasn't under the impression that he needed to finance as big of a chunk of it as the others.Zell is requiring financing for anyone who wants to buy in order to avoid capital gains tax. Remember, the Tribune bought the Cubs for 20 million and are about to sell it for around a billion

  22. That's a lot of money on our DL between Bradley and Furcal
  23. Canning was at my school a few weeks, and it didn't sound he was involved in the process and, either way, wasn't as interested anymore.
