  1. FWIW, 2016 Jake is about a $25+M a year pitcher. If he wants to sign for 5/125 during spring training, I'm fine with that. If he wants 180-200 million, I tell him no thanks and let him throw 30% sliders the entire season.
  2. Agreed. And baseball-wise, Jensen seemed much more comfortable going multiple innings during the playoffs compared to Chapman.
  3. I like these ideas, although I'd also try and trade Strop and Rondon for cheaper, upside options. I think their best days are probably behind them at this point.
  4. Given the way guys like Miller, Chapman and Jansen were used (and the fact that we gave up our top prospect to Chapman), I think smart front offices already see the value in having a truly elite relief guy. And that especially holds true in the playoffs where they can pitch basically every game. I'd prefer Jansen over Chapman, but I'd definitely like to have one of them in the fold over the next several years.
  5. Yeah, I have no interest in seeing Rondon pitch again unless we're up by 5 or down by 5. With Edwards, Strop, Montgomery and Wood, we have enough to get the ball to Chapman.
  6. Hard to see them moving Javy off of second at this point.
  7. Between Dex, Edwin Jackson, and declining Hammel's option, that's about $35 million to spend if they really wanted, without even accounting for a rise in payroll. I'd make Jansen a priority. Heck, I'd go after both Jansen and Chapman. We've seen how valuable elite relievers can be in the playoffs.
  8. For a friend!? Not even a family member? Absolutely not. He can go horsefeathers himself. I grew up in Northbrook. He did not live down the street from Bartman, no matter how much that writer wants to believe it.
  9. I wouldn't say the Cubs hit the ball hard against him last game. They had a hard hit ball that ended up being an out (Baez) but otherwise Kershaw thoroughly dominated.
  10. He wasn't even in the bullpen at the end of the game. Clearly injured. Edit: Guess I was wrong.
  11. Yep. Another worthless first round pick.
  12. Hendricks has a 1.21 era at home and 3.09 on the road. Pitch him in game 2. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk shouldn't be deciding the playoff rotation based on home/road ERA splits Eh, I'd usually agree with you but Hendricks is a guy who seems tied to his routine and there was an article the other day where he talked about how it's much easier for him to go through his pre-game routine at Wrigley. I have no problem having him go Game 1 or Game 2 to get him the start at home.
  13. I wish the guy all the best with whatever is bothering him, but I think the Cubs have to shut him down for the rest of the season. This is an unnecessary distraction from a player who, while valuable, is not a vital part of the team and can be replaced. If the guy can't accept doing what's best for the organization and accepting a three week trip to Iowa, he shouldn't be with the Cubs.
  14. Two elite players in their prime and a lot of major leaguers. Seems like a pretty good draft to me.
  15. What's wrong with Ryan Williams? He could get a spot start or two down the stretch if he were healthy.
  16. I figure it'd take Happ as the lead piece. My guess is Soler has lost quite a bit of value over the last season. But I'd move either for Odorizzi. That's probably closer to what they're asking for Moore. Weren't they asking for Baez for Odorizzi in the offseason? I have to imagine the price has only gone up.
  17. Looks like Theo got outsmarted this round.
  18. Not a fan of buying high on a guy like Shoemaker. If they're going the rotation route, I think the best bet is to swing for the fences and get Archer. If that's not possible, I'm OK standing pat in the rotation. I do think they'll get Reddick, and the cost shouldn't be too bad.
  19. Charcer Burks now at .307/.407/.455 in the second half for MB.
  20. Almora showed enough in his call-up to convince me that he can be a plus defense/#8 hitter next year without killing the team with his bat. And given Contreras' emergence and Schwarber coming back, that's perfectly acceptable. And if they keep Soler, you still have a great 4 man outfield rotation (along with Bryant).
  21. They wouldn't trade all 3. I would do Jimenez or both Happ and Torres. Hudson isn't worth much at this point so I don't see the point of giving him away. Edit: I didn't realize Archer's contract was that good. Screw it, give them all three if they'll actually trade him.
  22. I don't really think that's true unless you're defining upside as this pie in the sky type of thing where Baez can just suddenly change into a disciplined hitter...as much as I'd like to see it, I think it's extremely unlikely. And if that is how you're defining upside, you might as well say "but what if Russell developed 40 HR power??" Certainty matters, and there's a lot more certainty in Addison reaching more of his upside than the "upside" you're talking about with Javy. Javy doesn't need to become a 10% walk rate guy. His upside at 6-7%, combined with the 30+ HR alone makes him a higher upside guy than Russell. Russell is safer and likelier to put up a higher career WAR, but I'd actually bet Javy puts up the single best season of either of them. I'd take that bet.
